  • In this video I tear down and clean the carburetor on my dads generator. Bad gas clogs these things up. Since these things only get run every once in a while the fuel breaks down into a sticky mess that must be removed by hand before it will start again. To avoid this run your generator at least every 2 months for 5 minutes, add gas stabilizer or drain your tank. Draining you tank is not enough. You must remove the fuel from the carburetor bowl too. Good Luck.

    Excellent video. I have rebuilt many small engines, and rebuilt lots of carbs, both small and on cars and trucks. Very well laid out and very well explained. Thank you for taking the time to show those who don't have a clue that they CAN do this them selves rather than paying a shop to do it.

    You are truly a jack of all trades....We don’t have hurricanes as an issue here in Ohio....ours is more of the ice storms and tornadoes. I try to run our generator about once a month....I only keep about a gallon of gas in it. not to have the fuel just sit and add to it as needed from the main tanks. I was also taught to add Stabil and a touch of Seafoam. Videos are always great.

      "Getting ready for a snow storm (East of Cleveland suburb) "
      Will a Honda generator start at 20 F below zero? One of the labels says don't operate in rain or snow. What about that? Does a person need to build a shelter for the generator?

    Good video.
    I just was given a Honda ES7000 that doesn't run they were going to throw it in the dumpster.
    I checked for spark and that was good, put my finger over the spark plug hole and felt good compression so I figured it was a fuel problem.
    Spraying hot shot into the carb did not help but when I had the plug out I figure let me shoot some in there. Put the plug back in and it fired up. It shuts off and it was late and the skeeters were biting so I called it quits and then found your video. Will use your advice tomorrow to see if I can get it running. Oh and the gas doesn't smell too good either and it's a full tank. Thanks again and Happy Motoring.

    • @JasonJonieBuilds
      @JasonJonieBuilds  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching! Yes to the float but there is usually no need to put the rubber seal in the fluid unless you are trying to keep all the parts together. Sometimes when the carb has sat for a long time the rubber seal will get brittle and will need replacing. Good luck!

    • @JasonJonieBuilds
      @JasonJonieBuilds  3 роки тому

      I have never removed the indicator gauge so I am not exactly sure what it looks like. Honda likes rubber type gaskets. The gasket is probably compressed due to age and needs to be replaced. Sorry no help there.

    Hi!
    I have Black Max 3600 generator, left some old gas in it stored inside the shed for awhile but before I did that I ran the generator with fuel turned off to dry the carburetor, now I tried to start the generator and it won't start. Can carburetor still get clogged with fuel off, but old gas left in the tank? Can you think of any? Thanks!

    • @JasonJonieBuilds
      @JasonJonieBuilds  2 роки тому +1

      Honestly, running the gas out doesn't get all the fuel out of the bowl. If your generator has set for a while 1 or more years I would say you will have to remove the old fuel and clean the carburetor. Good luck.

So what if your power goes out in winter......will this start in sub zero temperatures Fahrenheit ? And if it does start in sub zero F what about snow? What good is this thing if it won't work for exactly what you bought it for? How can you operate these things in winter during a power outage? Will it start at 20F below zero?
