I enjoyed this very much, i do love seeing nightly progress. I wouldn't take anything from that test as negative because its those comments that help us improve and work on. From watching you since you had the lovely william, and definitely since you came to being nightlys new mummy, i can certainly say he has come a long way since coming from the race yard. Those comments regarding his balance and suppleness is nothing new from an ottb! It takes time to bring them on and find there own balance ect, at the end of the day rome wasn't built in a day i say lol. He will do some super tests, I'm sure as he has lovely paces. Do try some more long and low work with him, its great for building topline and tummy muscles, stretching across his back, engagment, suppleness and basically he will be reaching for the contact. I do long and low with every warm up and cool down and my boy loves it, he now does it naturally on the lunge, so no need for gadgets! Which i never use as hate them lol. Take care until next time ❤
He does some amazing long and low work in our cool downs, I just can’t seem to keep it with a shorter rein and more contact 🤷🏽♀️ I’ve got an exciting bitting clinic next month which I’m looking forward to seeing if it can help us x
@TheVocalEquestrian it took a while for my dude to grasp what long and low was all about, and now he is an absolute pro and does it naturally. Just maybe play around with letting him stretch down, slowly gather your reins through your hands and repeat a few times. When I feel my dude is off my leg, relaxed, supple from a good warm up, and generally feeling good underneath me I do one last long and low before the work begins and that last slow gather to a good contact he stays very happily in a lovely frame. I only loan but when i first started with him he was very on the forehand, I then changed to a bombers full cheek happy mouth and yeah what a difference! I will be interested to see what they suggest for nightly 😊
For a novice horse, not a bad test. riders hands are turned over, backs of the hands face the sky and this puts too much pressure on the bit. Horse needs more impulsion from rider's back and legs but that will come in time. Rider needs to ride into the corners with more outside rein and support of the inside leg.. Horse will require a lot more lunging. I would like to see some video of the training. Training will help the horse engage its hindquarters. This will improve strength and flexibility. If the rider improves her posture, which will come and works out how to reduce the heaviness of her hands the horse will respond with the freedom. Nothing in dressage should be forced. Confidence by the horse will come as the technique and consistency by the rider is achieved. This pair have a long way to go and together they can achieve a nice pairing.
Well done, that’s a great starting place that you can build on! I’m surprised they deducted marks off your actual test for not saying the month 🙈I think that’s a little unfair as it isn’t remotely related to the work you did! At least you know for next time x
Love your horse, and I think you both did v well!
Well done. I also did the same with not saying the month 😅. Good luck for Novembers test xx
I thought that was a decent enough test for your first time ♥
