I work at a call center. I enjoy the people, not the job. It's funny how videos/ads of call center life is so HAPPY & positive! Lmao I dread going on the phones at 9am. One of my dearest friends would sweat through his shirts due to the anxiety and eventually left after 9 months. I'm still there

I've been working in a call center for 5 months (actually it's a whistleblower channel), at home office at the moment. I'm fed up, being an introverted and shy person doesn't help, I feel like your friend sweating with anxiety, but I need to work at least a year to earn some money to pay my expenses and find an internship of what I really study in college. Stressful and stressful.

Even working internal support (arguably it's worse). Let me tell you.
When they're terrible systems freezes or is slow and you have to restart or reboot your computer, automatically you will be offline and then they tell you that's counted as downtime, and that means they will take from your salary, just because they're systems are poor.
Do we need to talk about the fact Managers and their constant harassment over their team members, why were you sick? What's wrong with you? By law we don't have to disclose why we were sick, but they don't care.
And when you let one call go, it's seen as call avoidance but they don't understand that you sometimes just need to breath or take a sip of water.
Can we please talk about the constant tiredness? I feel so exhausted sometimes that I don't even eat when I get home. Or don't have the strength to clean my place properly. The constant shift changes. Weekends all I do is not get dressed and lay in bed cause I'm tired.

I worked at a call center for 6 years and there are a few things I see wrong with this video:
-there is no way a call center salary can support a family + house + baby in a nice neighborhood.
-Everybody is way too happy. Working at a call center is depressing and demeaning.
-The customers calling in are not always calm and friendly. In fact the opposite.
-That female employee is way too young and hot, she is an actor 100%.
    -Nobody has tattoos
-Usually employees are cursing and swearing off the phones.
-The computer software is usually slow and buggy and does not run perfectly smooth like this video.
-They don't show you the other 300+ customers waiting in the queue to talk to you
-Coaching feedback is usually not happy + positive, it's usually demeaning, embarrassing and they threaten to fire you
Everything else looks accurate like the lunch + meetings.

Yikes! I come from medical scheduling call center jobs. Sounds like warehouse managers bear similarities to many of the medical call center managers. Call center managers or at least medical ones ask for wildly excessive amounts of calls per day to be handled and at flying speeds, limiting call times to like 4 mins less. Add to that, limiting the amount of time in between calls to 20 seconds while giving you 100 post scheduling steps to complete after scheduling patients. Live up to these standards otherwise deal with constant nagging, carping and criticism from managers. Nevermind the multitudes of questions patients might have and trying to address all of the many requirements of the call they stuff you with (from identity verification, medical questionnaires, going over instructions of the exam, setting up a date and location, pre-registration, numerous steps outside of talking to the patient that we are handling during the call). And if you’re doing a great job and getting positive patient-customer feedback and reviews, still expect the screeching criticisms for the need to go faster and make more calls to the point you have no time to do 1 million and 1 steps and are left making errors, failing to cover needed steps and going malfunctioning robot. These quantity over quality, hastening, unreasoned, tyrannical nagging managers all need to be fired. America needs to take a good look at itself and do something about management allowed to carry on like this. Management who often wouldn’t know the jobs they lead over if it were to bite them in the butt, yet still able to make crazy decisions. I have left the medical scheduling call center environment for good after 3 years of distress and heartache. It was certainly rewarding and fun in many facets but not worth the headache of management. I am hoping and praying 2021 takes me down a more desirable journey.

I wanted to quit that very first day, but I didn't because I at the moment I needed the job and I didn't want my family to think that I couldn't handle even 1 day. I stayed there for only 10 months, but it was enough do develop anxiety, I became withdrawn and I started to avoid people and gatherings after that. I decided to quit when I had this one customer who was very rude and I just took off my headphones, said to my team leader that I have an emergency and I have to leave early and never came back. My English is not as good as I would like (I'm not native) and I'm not used to speak with the slang of the customers (they're from Texas). LoyalHufflepuff88 It’s like North Korea (I am not kidding) it’s a terrible and I mean terrible place. All you creativity and positivity will be sucked out of you and you will end up feeling worthless. 80% of the people you meet in training class will leave within the first 6 months. Imagne this you get put in a training class and they expect you to learn a product in 2 weeks which actually takes years to learn and then they expect you to help people with those problems. You have tons of rules and everything is monitored. You have so much rules that the managers have to research if something is allowed or not. The metrics will kill you they are so unrealistic and the micromanagement will make you walk on eggshells. If you ever work at a call center just look at the eyes of the people who been there for a couple of years (they look like they’re dead inside) everybody hates it over there, legit everybody except the higher ups (they also hate it) I cannot describe it in words, but it’s terrible and again terrible! People get anxiety, depressions and panic attacks because they work there.

Man, I've worked other calls center, but recently I got a job at work from home call center I thought it would be sweet not having to commute but dang this call center job sucks lol, probably the worst call center company I've ever worked for. The training was one week, we never got to listen to how the calls actually are, we didn't even get to use the software to learn how to maneuver in it. We spent training only doing modules and watching over 10 hours of video about how to treat a customer. I have abosuletly no idea what kind of questions are gonna be asked by the customers, what to do or how to navigate the system to do stuff on the customers account because they gave us 0 time to do it during training. That was the worst training I have ever had in a call center, just learning how to treat customers but 0 training about what to do on the job. They're super strict to according to my trainer, if you're even 5 seconds late from break or lunch, they will coach you. Not even a minute, just a few seconds and you will get a coaching. And the software they use listens to make sure we say certain keywords or it contacts our supervisors to coach us, and at the end of every call we have to email the customers a survey about how we did. So we will be graded by QA, the customers, plus the software is watching to make sure we say key words. AND we are expected to take over 100 calls a day. This is crazy. Bad training, plus they expect a lot, and the pay is only 13 bucks. Fair to say, I'm already looking for another job.

13 bucks and hour?!Dang, I was paid only 5.But its enough for my country

    • @towringer
      @towringer 2 роки тому +1

Plus, the software the supervisors use now tracks your every move on every call. They can see every keystroke and cursor movement on your screen, and they can tell if the call dropped or if you disconnected the call. They also have a graphic display of your voice and the customer's voice. The sups will question why did you transfer the call when you should have been able to handle it. Yes, there was the 5 second rule at my airline call center. There was also the 2-minute rule that we had to service the caller every 2 minutes after placing them on hold. After servicing them 4 or 5 times, the customer would get sassy (Why am I still on hold? Don't you know your damned job? Doesn't anyone over there know anything?) Things change rapidly...look at Covid regulations & mask mandates.

I worked 21.5 years in an airline call center on the evening & midnight shift. My department handled present & future bookings months in advance domestically & internationally. We also rebooked people whose flights were delayed or cancelled. The stress level was enormous...people were yelling, screaming, cursing, calling us incompetent and using all manner of obscenities. The N-word, the B-word, the C-word, the A-word....all flavored with lots of sass and attitude. People would be at home or at the airport at night, so they had no restraint on their volume or sarcastic levels as opposed to people in the daytime, who would be at work or on their lunch break surrounded by coworkers. There were some good times, though, like when I'd book peoples honeymoon flights or dream vacations in First Class. Or somber ones, like when I'd book funeral flights for families of servicemen lost in the Mideast wars. I lasted 80 times more than most agents; newly hired agents would last three to six months before quitting or being fired for attendance or performance issues. I retired honorably with the Holy Grail (lifetime flight benefits), but I will never go back to customer service again.

I am a call center agent for 3 years they pay me fine I could buy my stuffs and needs for myself and my family that other jobs may take months to earn.
