I was a big Icom Fan. I went to HRO and spent two hours there working the radios. I walked out with the Yaesu. I love the way the Icom screen looks and the feel of the knobs. Other than that, the Yaesu has helped me work a lot of weak signals.
The DNR on the 101 I admit is superior to the Icom 7610 but I prefer the UI and waterfall of the 7610 and after I added the BHI Compact Inline Noise Cancelling DSP module the Audio is excellent on all my Icom Radios 7300 & 7610 as well as my Flex 6400M! 73
The audio of the ic-7610 is much more realistic than the ftdx 101d. Also, instead of turning on the NR, it's better to reduce the noise with the RF squelch.
Having had both and was able to compare both critically side by side I found the 101 to be a much better radio in almost every aspect except for the screen and ICOM’S flexibility with it. The inner tuning dial is very configurable to many things whereas the ICOM isn’t… You need the RC 28 external unit…. AND you can click and change almost everything on the screen via a mouse, can not do anything with the mouse very limited on the 7610 in that regard, Can’t remove the dual frequency display on the 7610 but you can on the 101, 101 has CW center tune indicator, 7610 you have to guess… If you know how to use the VC tune you can pull almost anything out of the noise in conjunction with the DNR on the 101, I used to be an ICOM fanboy but have seen the light with the 101 much better thought out radio. Just my opinion having had both in my radio room for at least 6 months being able to compare the two.
The noise reduction is one thing but the RF gain and att is a whole different kettle of fish ? The RF gain on the 7610 is utterly useless. Just like my 7300 .
The ftdx101mp is just a better radio overall. The receiver is 10x better. Of course nothing wrong with the Icom, but if you’re looking at performance the Yaesu has the Icom beat.
The 101 is not better “overall”. It is terrible on AM. All of the controls are deactivated for AM. Yes, it is a Ham radio but you said “overall”. The 101 sux for SWL, AM DXing, and AM beacon chasing. The 7610 is an Awesome receiver which allows all controls and features to be used in all modes. “overall”, the 7610 literally annihilates the 101. If you are confined only to ssb and cw then the 101 is fine. I have owned both and dumped the 101 to get the 7610
@@DJGeorgetheoriginal you offer absolutely no evidence or examples of your opinion. You merely just try to diminish everyone else by saying oh you’re a fanboy. That’s pretty weak.

Well, Santa is bringing me the FTdx101MP for Christmas. It looks like I made the right choice!

The Icom 7610 is a beaufiful radio but the FTdx101mp is light years ahead the difference is night and day
Shame, yaesu can't do averaging.

attenuator on the 7610 is set at 12db, you should turn on the ip+ maybe and firmware updatev to 1.42 tor the dsp ....just a thought

@ Roger that, an ICOM fanboy. I fully understand.

@ “You merely just try to diminish everyone else” look who’s talking. Imagine that.
I have to accept your opinion, but you don’t accept mine, MY FRIEND THATS A FANBOY. Pretty Sad if you ask me.
