Spinning Angora Rabbit Fiber To Knit A Vintage 1960's Hat Pattern

- I'm spinning angora rabbit fiber to duplicate a discontinued yarn and knit a vintage hat pattern from the 1960s. I will show you the entire process from carding and blending angora with Merino wool on my drum carder, spinning and dyeing the yarn, to knitting a beautiful beret with a classic angora halo. Let's get spinning!

Mohair also has a halo that is similar to bunny.
You are really setting a high standard for spinning videos on UA-cam! Thank you for putting the time and effort into making these entertaining and highly educational videos.
Wow. I've never seen the process from growing to raw fiber to actually balls of yarn. And then into a hat??? Wow. I can tell you had so much fun doing it!
As someone who has 4 angora rabbits I tend to do pure blends of the individual but I've just had my Cotswold sheep sheared and plan on a blend. Shawls, scarfs and fingerless gloves are devine with 100% angora
Having raised angora rabbits and Shetland sheep for many years, I primarily spun with 100% angora on a variety of wheels but preferred my Country Craftsman flax wheel. We hand harvested the ripe fiber, didn't shear, and had essentially no problem with knit and crocheted items shedding.
I love vintage/historical thinks like this too. I like it as a beret.
Lovely. The nice thing is you can wear it either way. Love your history lessons.
As someone who grew up in the time those hats were appearing in pattern books, I can assure you that the aluminium needles are the more authentic choice. At that time, wooden and bamboo knitting needles were almost unknown in the English speaking world.
My mother grew up in Argentina, where wooden needles were the norm in the early to mid 20th century. Plastic needles were becoming popular, at least in some parts of the English speaking world although knitters were firmly divided into two camps, those who routinely used them and those who wouldn't touch them.
This is a fascinating video.
It's that your hat contains fur of your past buns that thrills me -- and, I'll bet, you!
How satisfying it would be to spin, dye and craft something from your own yarn! I love the colors that came out!
I'm not a pompom person so I would use the icord tab.
now Here's a true blue Fibre Artist! you really know your fluff! 😄😎🧶🧵
That hat is gorgeous. I love the glamour of the pattern photo too.
The color with your eyes on camera!!!!
I love it with the tab.
I think it looks really cute, especially worn as a baret. 😍
I really loved this whole process and project idea so I started one myself. I am spinning the angora now. Love this style of project!!!
Your hat is lovely! It suits you very well. I started knitting at probably age 4 or 5 (I'm in my 70s now) but I only started on a spindle about 15 years ago and got my first wheel five years ago. Consequently I'm a better knitter than a spinner. I'm in awe of your spinning. I used to see spindles demonstrations at craft fairs but didn't think I could figure out how to coordinate it all. How silly I was. You're an inspiration!
I love all of your videos, I can sit and watch the whole thing with no fuss. Love your work.
Thank you so much for the wonderful video. I raise Angora bunnies for fibre and can't wait to try this project!
Music is giving me such great vibes!!
🎶🥰🧶
Beautiful! Definitely Beret!!!! No Pom Pom…😉
THat hat is so cute on you! What a wonderful project, it looks wonderful in that color and fiber type. Thanx for sharing :)
The yarn came out gorgeous! Love the colors!
The music really set this video off! This beret is gorgeous!
I have never Spun a thing in my life, except the occasional tale! You have inspired me to try something new (really, really new)! Now to find the cheapest way to go about it. This is really fascinating; never could figure out going from “hair” to “thread”. You stomped out a lot of ignorance!
Beret with tab for sure. And maybe some crochet flowers 😁
I just found your chanel last week. You are are a joy to watch! So much knowledge and talent thanks for sharing it with us! The tam is beautiful on you!
Thank you so much from Germany!
The hat is so pretty and you looked wonderful and pretty in it!
I would wear it as a beret. It’s lovely :)
That looks 👌 great on you, now you should of said a few French worlds to go with it 😀 😉. I love the color you dyed the yarn. I been spinning up 100% Alpaca yarn with the different colors fleece. Like white which I started with. Dark brown that needs carded. and black and light tan. I'm hoping it can be made in a shaw, for the person who gave me the Alpaca fleece.
Awesome. I'm just getting into keeping angora rabbits for fiber. I love that you made an angora playlist I will go to that after I'm done watching this video
Gorgeous project! I think it's great as a beret, and I love the subtle french-style music 😉....C'est un beau béret. Ah, days in Paris🥰. *Sigh*.
Thank you so much! I heard the music and knew it had to be in my video with my beret!😊🐰🧶💜
Beret with a tab! Beautiful work!
Thank you! I think the beret is my favorite too. 🥰💜🧶
I love it without a Pom ❤️ I love how your dyeing looks like denim. That hat is going to be cute with jeans 😍
so do I - but for me I would try a pom pom, too! LOL
I think it is really cute both ways, looks lovely on you.
Loved the vlog and your Tammy. I loved angora, still do ❤️
The tam looks lovely 😍 and the colours are a dream. Angora isn't my cup of tea but wow this yarn is beautiful
HAH. As though I need any enticing to come back for more videos! Lovely yarn and lovely hat! The colors came out so beautiful!
Haha! Thank you! My next projects are so fun, I can't wait to share them! 🥰💕🧶
I am now knitting a beret with a fractal spin. My thought was to make exactly what you are doing next. I will keep it white. My friend had a German long hair and was gracious enough to give me quite a bit. Blessings.
I like it as a beret. I would absolutely put a pom pom lol
I love this hat and the I cord tab
I have lots of angora. You've inspired me to play and spin it. ❤
Go for it! Happy spinning!
I think a beret is good! Lovely video, thanks!
Beautiful hat and love the color 🥰
Lovely hat - Tam or Beret 😍 Lots of great info, thank you for sharing. I do wish you had taken the opportunity to caution those who don’t have bunnies to be very wary of where they source their Angora fibre. There are still evil humans harvesting the fibre by ripping it from the backs of screaming rabbits 🫣😢
Beautiful hat beautifully done. Love the yarn you produced! Excellent video.
Thank you so much! 😊💜🧶🐰🐇
Beret! So classy and beautiful on you!
i just made a beret with my first ever handspun yarn thank you for your helpful videos :) the i-cord looks very lovely
Great spin, great yarn and color. 😎
I like it both ways, but I think the Tam looks better. This is so pretty.
This was a great video! Thank you.
Turn out beautiful. Awesome job
Love love love! 🐰💗
that blue is really pretty! It's nice to see the full process
Thank you! 🐇🧶😊
I thought the yarn looked perfect on Instagram and now wow! Just beautiful! Thank you for sharing the techniques from start to finish, and my vote is for the beret, love it!! I'm not a pom pom person either lol It looks great on you!
This is one of the absolute coolest videos ive seen on knitting and spinning!! The hat looks beautiful and there is nothing more special than making it from scratch! So happy i found your channel.
It’s a beautiful hat!
Great episode! I like the beret version of wearing :)
Love the hat!
Wear it as a beret. The dying turned out wonderfully with the mix of colors evenly distributed. A really gorgeous knitting project.
That hat is absolutely gorgeous, the subtle colour variation makes for a beautiful fabric, as does the halo.
I'd leave the tab, rather than going for a pom-pom.
A beret hat pattern is something I need to try, love the color.
Wow, I absolutely love this project 🥰You look super cute in the Tame. I’m with you, no Pom Pom.
Thanks so much 😊
it turned out so beautiful!
Love making tams!
I have a new appreciation for this style of hat, that's for sure! Maybe I'll try a pom pom next time... 💜🐰🧶
wow, it looks so wonderful! I also knit with the fiber of my angora bunnies.
Such great info! I love spinning angora rabbit wool by itself so it is machine washable and dryable! We get an 8-10 inch staple length on our rabbits which helps alot for the halo to release but not disrupt the integrity of the yarn.
What breed of angora rabbit produces this amazing fiber?
what a great video! thanks!
looks amazing as either
This is definitely a beret! Looks great on you. The icord tab is perfect
I love it!!
It’s perfect just the way it is…… and it REALLY suites you Evie!!!!!
Super cute!
Stunning
So so fantastic!
My beret pattern is from 2012 Hannah Fettig and Knitbot. What I like about it is that the beret is written, not in head size, but yarn size from fingering, dk, worsted, bulky. I am doing the dk. So quick and easy on circular needles. I have made a number of them and given them as gifts.
Nice! I love patterns that work for different gauges of yarn! 🧶🐰🥰
So pretty!
An excellent bunny hat
This is just so cool!
Your hat looks awesome! And such an interesting video 😊 I loved seeing the whole process.
Thanks so much! 😊🐰🧶💜
I want to have angora rabbits!!! Loved this ❤️
Beautiful
Thanks so much for doing this! I've been fretting over what my first project with my own handspun yarn should be, and now i'm thinking maybe it should be this hat...
I love handspun hats! Go for it! 🧶💜😊
My first finished hand spun project (indeed my only hand spun knitting project) was a tam, and they are delightful
Well done from beginning to end! I love the color. You wear it well!
Thank you so much!
Love it.
I don't know why I love you.
I was sneezing at the thought of bunny fur but I so wish I could work with something like that 😭
Beautiful!!! I’m not a fan of pom poms either. I think it looks best as a Tam, but then I’m not a fan of berets either.
Hat suits you worn at an angle 😊 wonderful video.
Full of useful information as always 👌 💛
that is sssoooooooooo beautiful!!!!!!! thanks
Beret! Awesome vid as usual ❤
Thank you so much Fyre! 🐰💜🧶
This looks like magic to me ! Happy Easter ! The hat looks real good on you ! I like it as a beret without the pompom. The color is great with you eyes, it really suits you too.
beautiful
I love the i-cord tab! really delightful. I'd personally wear it as a tam but that's just me! it's cute both ways :D
Love it so much!! I could never pull off a beret or a tam, bit jealous of anyone who can lol.
Haha! Is there another kind of hat you love? I'm wondering what kind of project your lovely angora spins will end up in? I'm probably a bit biased, but I vote hats! 🐰👒💜🥰
@@JillianEve I love a beannie, but I'm wondering about a baker boy style hat - half the family is from the Peaky Blinders area of Birmingham and a bit obsessed 🤣 Actually thanks for the nudge I might look for a pattern now!! 🥰
This video is definitely one of my top 5 that you have shared with us. I love the vintage patterns and yarns. My mom has a book published in the 50’s that has just about every way to make textile projects, even candle wicking a bed spread. Your tam should be worn as a beret :) Happy Easter
That dye job is beautiful. The hat looks great. And I am very excited to see that you will be doing another historical spin.
Always something new to learn.
Gosh, that hat looks good! I like the tab better than the pom pom. Pom poms get a bit heavy and make the hat shift on the head.
Thank you so much! 😊🐰🧶💜
Beautiful I love it!
Commented too early -- definitely a beret -- and a trip to France.
Your hat is beautiful. I think a beret would be best. Just the way you are wearing it right now.
