I went from being a bit more cautious about AI to absolutely adoring it. The time for localizations ,art, being only in the hands of the far left who wish to tear these mediums down or corrupt for their agendas is over.
On a bigger note, if ladies can't handle how innately male friendly anime is then they should go back to twilight and their bland life time movies.

As an artist myself, I have a special contempt in my heart for talentless hacks who create nothing of value and take pleasure in perverting and degrading the work of others. Being enlisted to contribute to another person's creation is a privilege and you have a duty to honor their artistic vision, not distort it into something you find appealing. That said, if the studios hire woke moral narcissists and the fans pay for that garbage, they're both getting what they deserve.
True. And while I agree with you, I just think it's a shame.
It's likely the author would've loved to be the one in charge of the anime and the localization themselves, but likely due to the lack of time, or lack of awareness that these types of bastardizations are possible, if not common, they leave that work done by their studios. Studios which likely do not care about the work, to them it's just another product.
It is also possible that they do not have that much leeway within how their work is distributed, which also sucks. We know that Eichiro Oda was able to stop the bastardization of his story in the live-action, where the showrunners wanted to make Zoro and Nami a couple. It is likely that they would've gotten away with it if Oda wasn't such a renown artist, and had power over them.

Even if it has little to no impact it certainly feels better than having to worry about if the money you contribute is actually going towards the creator (I'm looking at you crunchyroll)

I watched Vee video. The localaizwr changed a translation for the character to say they are essentially strong and can easily beat an old man (Idk much context)
The localizer turned the wording to I will defeat you (something like) so fast you before you say adukt diapers and then used cringe word like fart factory and used the word country buffet.
Youd have to look at the video yourself but the cringe levels were radioactive that if i were to hear it. Itd be flabbergasted on how cringe it is.
I was flabbergasted when geeks and gamers showed major cringe clip of Harley Quinn and Kid Poison Ivy (different subject but writing was awful and poor choice of words.)

Bringing politics into an anime is crazy
The worst part of all is they didn't just ruin the joke of Lucoa being overly oblivious to human culture, they completely turned Lucoa's character 180 degrees, not to mention it neither makes sense given that a few episodes before, there was a scene where she got kicked out from a public beach for barely wearing anything. While the original plays around the running joke that people around her disapprove of her wearing revealing outfits in public all the while she has no idea what she's doing, the English dialogue switches the role around with society ogling their eyes on her and she's the one disapproving it.
Yeah... I mean, hey, I love me some fanservice.. But Japanese society clearly values modesty among the general public more than people of the west do and as such they acknowledge that in Anime or Manga. Some weirdo from California probably genuinely would not see a problem with a girl in a bikini visiting a shrine. They see it as progressive because they are selfish and care more about the individuals personal feelings over whatever is going on around them. Anime has always made sure to pretty much use moments like these for comedic purposes while also being clear towards the viewer that you shouldn't present yourself or behave in this manner.

Localiser = tourist activist. No one who really loved the medium they're translating would spit on it like that.
We have many cases where localizers do their best but no one is going to complain about a bad job. Examples include the Final Fantasy localization, Nintendo games in general, Ghost Stories (granted that one the Japanese studio said go ham on the jokes), the Monogatari series (since a lot of jokes are super Japanese cultural context and a foreigner wouldn't understand), FMA, etc

That is honestly a laughable generalisation. The industry is filled with localised translators just doing their job. Generally I go with subtitles over a dub, but that doesn't mean I think all dubs are bad. The practise has come a long way in terms of overall quality and care.
Sure though, there are outliers, like in anything. But that doesn't mean they're the rule.

This is real, and it's been happening for years, especially in subtitles. The first I remember is in the Sailor Moon remake in 2016, in the intro song. "We aren't weaklings who need to be saved" was punched up to "We aren't weak girls who need men's protection." (original Japanese had no mention of "men", which would be silly since Tuxedo Mask)

After you learn a bit of Japanese and watch anime with subtitles you realize the insane creative liberties they take with the translations.
Yeah, I started taking it up again during the pandemic and the amount of things I caught even with the differences in subtitles is crazy. Nowhere near this level though.
I mean, there's a lot of nuance to language that doesn't translate well, so liberties are warranted. Puns are a good example.
This, on the other hand, is beyond creative liberty. This is shamelessly pushing an agenda.
Localization != translation. The subtitles of the original Japanese voiceover are translations. The English reinterpretation and bastardization of the original canon is localization.

Her Voice Actress is Jamie Marchi, the main person who got Vic Mignogna (The guy who voices characters like Edward Elric in Full Metal Alchemist, and Broly in Dragon Ball) canceled over a shitton of allegations that they had no proof of, and ended up effectively ending his career. I wouldn't doubt it if she was the one who wanted the change herself.

my dad used to work at nintendo and was good friends with a lot of the localization team. that kind of work used to be an artform, but it everyone was so underpaid and underappreciated that all of the talented translators left to do other writing work. this kind of stuff happens because studios just don't give a shit about whether their translators are good, even though a good translation can make a world of difference, video game, anime, or otherwise.

@@Stikstawell then you have XI, XIII, XIV, and XVI who have good translations and localization, granted Square learned it was a good idea to have localizers who speak multiple languages and are involved with the writing process. But even then they make mistakes from time to time due to cultural context or how humor is delivered between cultures (i.e. something funny in Japanese would make no sense in English or French).
This isn't because they aren't paid enough. This isn't bad or poor translation. This is INTENTIONAL woke translation to spread the woke liberal hive mind message in order to destroy society. It is unrelated to pay. We cannot be exposed to a traditional society, so they are filtering it out for us.

FYI, the VA behind this character, and the one who suggested the change, was Jamie Marchie, one of the leads in the bogus "Kick Vic" fiasco, where they slandered Vic Mignogna with a bunch of claims that have yet to be proven to this day.

I’m reminded of Laputa, which has a lot of quiet (ie no dialogue) scenes, the Disney dub started sticking in talking in almost every scene with a character present. Sometimes it actually changes the tenor of a scene.
The behind the scenes has a clip interviewing the English scriptwriters where they say they tried to stick to the Japanese script as closely as possible, which is hilarious BS in hindsight
Unrelated to the woke controversy, ever since seeing the Spanish dubs of Laputa and learning what it means in Spanish, I cannot stop laughing at that show. 🤣 That might be an instance where it may have been a good idea to change it somehow although idk if that would be possible.

Sad fact is majority of people in the artistic industry tend to be left leaning and it’ll only continue get worse. They’re even intentionally mistranslation manga and changing the meaning, story and characters etc i.e changing a gay couple into a trans couple. I’d say get rid of localizers and dubbers while relying on accurate translations or better yet, pirate passionate fan subs/translations

But see, here's an important detail:
She's voiced by Jamie Marchi in English.
The same dub also had a very ironic "localization" in the first episode where the female dragon confesses her love to the human woman and the response in Japanese was "but I'm a woman". In the English dub, they changed it to "but I'm straight", which is flat out wrong since the two do get into a relationship much later in the story. In an effort to avoid a 'heteronormative' line, the dub literally forced a gay character to be straight. Peak wokeness erasing gay people.
Sexuality in this show doesn't seem to mean much since Kobayashi suddenly became attracted to Tooru when she was given a dick, but your point stands.
Sort of like the western writer for the Netflix Saint Seiya show turning Shun female because he wanted a girl on the main team, except by doing that he screwed up storylines for other preexisting female characters AND he picked the member of the group who cried the most and constantly relies on his older brother to come save him which seems like the opposite of empowerment.
I mean I’m pretty up to date with manga but I don’t remember Kobayashi showing sings of love towards Tohru. In fact iirc she showed no interest in romance at all. And if I had to guess she would end up with Takiya and Tohru with Elma.

A lot of times anime takes liberty with character dynamics that weren't present in the manga. Always gotta trust the source material first....unless they go for an original ending.

This has been happening for years. The first time I noticed was when my little brother and I talked about SAO. He didn't know the female cousin was in love with her male cousin. He believed she loved him like a brother due to the localizers. He's been watching more subtitled anime since. My personal preference is to only watch dubbed anime that aired before 2010. I find that some of the storylines in more recent anime are misrepresented and don't make as much sense.
I feel like aside from the Stands being renamed (that's shuiesha's fault) Jojo, Shiki, Kill La Kill, Little Witch, and Edgerunners for example have good English Dub.

Outside a few goldies, (FMA Brotherhood, Soul eater, Gurren laggan) I havent touched dubbed anime in over a decade.
This is one of the reasons I prefer subbed AND fan translations over official ones
I leared Japanese just so I can avoid that, and I always buy manga raw. Funimation, VIZ, and Crunchyroll will never get a cent out of me.

Forget bad localization, they literally used someone else's work as a mouthpiece for what is essentially a throwaway tweet. You can tell how little regard they have for the works that created their industry and job in the first place.
Funimation did that alot. Also lucoa's VA is one of the people who got Vic Mignonia fired for "conduct"
This sucks because it givess localizers as a whole a bad rep when I'm sure there's loads of them out there who have just as much passion for it as the people consuming it. Whenever I think of an S tier localisation I think of FFXIV and how much flavor and effort not only voice acting but also the dialogue has. It's just such a shame to see people like this.
XIV is a phenemonal game with great actors but even the localisation there has some odd changes from the japanese.

Often they do good works....there are simply some things that don't translate well. Especially those authors that just love wordplay but japanese puns don't usually translate into english.
It's like reverse Woolseyism; you drift away from the direct translation and come up with something worse to replace it.
Its going to be solved though. Translators are already pointless with current AI. Why on earth do we need to pay people for doing the job ANI fits perfectly for? I mean, we are still going to need someone to edit in where the voice actor is supposed to enter the script, so its not like like the entire field is going bye-bye, but the actual translation is no longer required to be touched by filthy political hands.

Just a reminder, Funimation, one of the worst dubbing and localizing companies, used to really push garbage ecchi anime like Bikini Warriors because Crunchyroll rolled up and stole their market. Also they're owned by Sony, another company that has their hands in the Japanese market but have become so Californian they try to sanitize it all for "Western Sensibilities"
Got to agree it's main episodes are weak in the ecchi department. Wasn't till the OVAs they actually showed something.

This isn't an issue of sub or dub. Localizations cover both. Often the localized subtitles are just the dub script. So starting a dub vs sub war really is missing the point and problem completely.

And forget about the political ramifications or whatever, the amount of times the localization teams decide to make things more "relatable" the more they water down the anime and actually make it harder for people who like to pick up on little words and phrases from anime they watch. I'm sure the localization teams have hours of cope they can provide as to why they do this, but anime got popular before these turds came around and will be around long after them.

This is a _localization_ problem. Usually what these companies do is they translate the script and then localize it. That becomes the dub script. But then they take that localized script, and transcribe it into subtitles. So even if you're watching the show subbed, you're reading the dub's script.

Also the translation for subs is sometimes off as well. That happens a lot with Yamato from one piece. The characters never refer to Yamato as him but the subtitles do.

Shit like this is why I try to consume media in a format as close to the source material as possible. Most of the time the issue is just stuff getting lost in translation because it doesn't translate well (e.g. honorifics and levels of formality in Japanese/Korean), but then you get cases like this where people knowingly pervert the original work to suit their own world views. These people bring disgrace upon the noble art of translation.

It baffles me that people are just finding this out, I already new this shit years ago, and guess what? *Sony,* *Crunchy Roll* is in on it to (Remember, Sony is pushing the woke agenda as seen in Spooder-man 2, and now they own Crunchy Roll), I stopped supporting *Funimation* when I read articles and certain behaviors on social media that I came to my own conclusion that these companies have becomed corrupted. Japanese sub are the way to go. Lastly, Japan, manga, and anime creators have been promoting preservation of their creativity from Western influences, i.e, politically correct and woke agendas.
I’m not a pure sub enjoyer because I wanna give dubs a chance. Especially since so many anime have really popular dubs. But after this whole thing started, I started being more choosy with dubs than I was before.
Localizing is important, but there's a HUGE difference between making things more understandable and inserting your personal politics in a translation 😂

I barely even know a little bit of Japanese but even just watching anime with subtitles I can tell when the translations are *completely* off.
And not even for any particular "agenda" or whatever. It's just that they tried to make it "westernized" and end up changing stuff. For a dub translation, I'm perfectly fine with that. But for subs? Those words on the bottom of the screen better be beat for beat with what was said in Japanese. Even if it's some random obscure Japanese reference that I would never understand.

Netflix did this to Komi Can't Communicate too. Not just the dub but the subtitles too because there's a male character who dresses like a girl so they completely rewrote how all of the characters interact with him/her. Only the manga version actually keeps the original context of how the characters interact with one another.
