Very exciting to see this. There was an "Underground" at my home town in CA. Live bands could come and work things out without disturbing neighbors and have a slice of pizza. Since then, as Kurt would say, "some bad apples" (tweeking transient vandals) decided to smash several of our downtown store fronts and violate public statues. Squaters collapse and sometimes die so often on our streets that they are not attended to or removed for at least half a day. It is a terrible scene and very bad for business. Ps.. We just lost an important and well known (music) figure in our community.. this is for him. ❤

Kurt was a bad ass gitarist, but he played sloppy to give it a more raw sound.
In one if the guitar top 100 he's placed at 18 and one of his biggest fans at 17,John Frusciante.
Early Nirvana recordings are the best cuz Kurt is a fkn best on the guutar, but he does a very Simple thing that are actually pretty hard to get right.
That is to use his voice as 2nd rytme where it both takes over and add what a single guitarist struggles with.
That and a ear for tone, rythm and melodi that no one else in the music history have had.
And he was self taught, didnt read a note.
I understands it cu, Same shit for ne. Self tayght by ear in 3 weeks b4 starting creating my iwn musicin a band adter 2 months..But how ever my musikal geious friends at school who studied music told me to sawp from cullinary to music.
I didnt take music serious as to me I knew what would hapoend as I really LOVED every substance there was after self medicating to getrid of what 9 years l8r was diagnosen as a secere atyoical chronic cluster head ache+ I had the absolute best woman I wanted to have a family with.
She hater me for playing but told all her friends I was a rock star. Wich I could've been if I hadnt kept turning down offensive to join a dear friend, neighbour, badass guitarist(look up the old stuff of Mohammed, hard to find. So search Mohammed -Silver living. The white heard shirtless dude,Thomas Ruud,he was also in a KISS cover band and their drømmer wrote Gene Simmons ASSHOLE,its by Sherleys Tempke his band. They know KISS pretty well and the drømmer,or vocalist/guitarist in Sherleys Temple did press for the 2004 album here in Norway where Im from. 03/04 my heroin addiction had set in and I knew if I signed on to the Scandinavian festival tour one year and their upcoming European tour ,that would be my end. Plus having a shitty health and a body that are 110% fights you every day. Anyways,Kurt has been my hero since eatly 92 age 13,
Started to play in matching bands vut I cant read music so they figured out to use coloured lights like they later did with a music project for Downs syndrome....
That never changed, but I can be at a concert on festivals for unknown bands and I hear the music first as a whole, then I seperate it all in my head and if therey play a wrong note tho I never heard it before I just know.
Later in researching throughout the yrars it's just the same how Kurt saw, heard, made and played his guitar parts.
Those saying he wasnt a good guitarist do not know shit ab how it is...
I have several musician friends that are reckognized bith internatinally and nationally ,won awards and shit.
Funny, fitst I learned to play was Burzum tunes. Norwegian black metal wich I love to this day. A good buddy are bassist for Carpathian Forrest since the early 90.
He's 50 and had to retire live gigs do to drug use, overweight and a blown back, legs, nerve damages etc.
But he's running his own studio helping new artist up and it's NGO driven.
He hates the music industry just as much as I do myself.
Sometimes principles comes first however great or bad you are.
Come from a real fucked up famimy, seriously fucked up, on my dads side all my cousins(9) are or have been addict. Voth my sinlings became junkies. My kid brother still is.
I quit 14yrs ago age 30 cuz my body was starting to sgut down from a very very heavy polyester addiction do to pain and I fkn love drugs to a point.
When you step over that point and lose co trol.
Being a good guitarist is death sentence. But hands down I knew whatand how Kurts playing was like.
As it is the same way I put together stuff myself. Kurt too could sit for hours on hours every day and just pump out riffs ,I did it 8-10h daily from 96 to 2016 when arthritis screwed me totally.
      But,hey.
      Im alive tho...
Go to Rick Beato and he'll explain it way better cuz he know how to read music. Fuck, who knew what trilletur were and you played it all day every day and not understand what you read, but you play from ear and eye,oh and ofc tablets...
      Kurt was a fkn genious!!

He couldbt read a nite,he kew 2 scales, but not how they functioned in music etc.
The thing that does that great,Just as Hendrix and many more including myself who understands it is that we learn by ear.
I could go to a festival ,listen to a uknown band and hear every instrument by itself, then all together and even minor flaws ,if one hit a wrong note or beat.
I cant read shit of music. Know 2 scales and the regular chords, even thenI played chirds I didnt know.
Just as a classucal piano trained budde of mine who never had played guitar and he Just thought notes in chords and he heard them where they were on the strings.
I had never learned music, wasnt able to .
When playing in a matching band in the 4 first years of school.
They introdusert light with diff colors..
      I hate it.
My music tracher was my eighboutr,so her older kids loved hang out cuz I was a bastard on the drums.
Guitar I learned in 3 days when I was 17 and we was partying hard ,I j6st picked up his BC Rich and within 3 weeks I was composing my own music.
The music I wanted to play not the one forced on me.
I played sloppy too cuz I always got ....you have to study music, fuck ur great and I HATED IT!!
I also had the same issye as Kurt,an undiagnosed pain and a heavy heroin adduction until they figured it out,but that was in 09,back in 02 and 03 I was invited to join my neighbours band on a European tour as the gitarist that just went of nuts.
He lived under me ans with a 4x12 JCM 900 1960A Marshall top and bottom and a so sweet US strat ,he wasnt anoyed when I had music in my head and in middle of nugt it was full blast...
I learned from Kurts story abd kept out of band cuz I knew if I joined the scene I would either use so much of everything,or kill myself cuz of the pain.
(It was atyical chronical cluster head ache I later was diagnosen with in 07,but took 2 yrs and 11x I almost died at hospital in 8 monthsI was tired of the addiction to illegal opioids. And my living situation with just drug deling, use and 4-5 week to 6 months full speed and all kind of amphetamines use by my neighbours...I got heroin for free when I eeded it by the guy living above me...
Ans I just fucking hated it..
I was put on Norphine sulphate and Fentanyl pat hes for rest of my lufe, but had a heavy heroin use on top of the 650mg morphine equilant I got daily kegally and 3-4gr heroin on top of that each day ...I didbt think it was fair to kill myself ,and wasnt able to OD.Just fell asleep and woke up 6h later, even when I took a full marble in 3 injections(marble=5gr of pure Afghanistani, yellow pakistani, black turkish, white thai and opiums heroin/grey with lots of black dots).
Here in Norway,we have been a drug hub since the 70s.
We're the OD capital of Europe and regular cut dope was 14%,what we got was 55-67% pure.
Plus so many other illicit substances it was nuts. With the pharma ,I've tried 78 substances, been addicted to 19.
I didnt guve a fuck, but still zi Rocket on wth some buddies that id not for the heavy use ans ailment we'd prolly formed a band to put out ur music.
Maaaaany in the scene here in the country has died of an ID,several big wich was personal friends of mine and others that was so fucked up tho so big that hiathus on up to a decade.
      Nuff about that.
Go watch Rick Beato's videos ab why Kurt is the best melody maker of our century.
Kurt never needed a second gitarist, cuz he pkayed one melodi with the guitar and he sang another one that mellowed into what we know Kurt for+earlier years his solos was fkn badass.
He was a better gitarist then, but sounded better dhen playing sloppy.
And ut is a technical science to it.
Like I did was each time I luften my pinky or pointer I made them roll like a wave, wich isnt easy to do.
Kurt did kind of the same ,but very diffrent so you can get it to sound better .
      It is very indualistic too.
But I learned all his nicks n nacks ,Only music besittes my own I botheted to play was Nirvana.
Not cuz it is simple,it isbt, but cuz it is really really playfull, relaxing and fun AF!!
Now Im bored and old and arthritis have taken the ability to play wthout 3 dats with joint pai, soar arms, but still....it is like riding a bike....
You do not need to know shit ab music to ake and play good music ,most musicians are self tought. Those who's really god.
You can hear when a trained musician plays and most I kniw of just end up as fill in for recording studios,TV/RADIO and so on.
Fuck Reading music play what your ears tell you sound good!
Kurt mastered that like no other!!
Just two cents from a self tought musician who dunno to read music or even most termnogies. I found that as a waste of time to even try.
But you have to learn tempo, read and wright tabs wich is easy.
      Funny thing.....
I was not able to play uf I wasnt high as a kite the 3 first yrs(weed) it calmed down my impulsivity my ADHD gives!!

@blackbeansmatter1280 Was this the club that was downstairs in the U District on the Ave? Underneath the book store or arcade or something.
My band BiGTOP played there once with the band Abusement Park and I seem to remember the b&w checkered floor.
I do remember playing at a small club on 2nd Ave around that time called the Hollywood Underground. But there was no stage, bands played right on the floor. If I remember correctly, we played there with the great, Aspirin Feast & the legendary DERELICTS.
