- Throughout the Kingdom Hearts series Sora has alwasy been the fun, loving, charasmatic boy who, wherever he went, inspired those around him. Being a beacon of light to guide all through the darkness. However, being the Child of Destiny may not be all that its cracked up to be
Having Sora "alone" for a bit, without the pressure to keep up appearances around those he knows might be the best thing for him at this point. So excited to see what he gets up too in the next game.
I think it will be more interesting by the fact that while he is alone, he knows the sacrifice he made that resulted in him being alone saved all his friends. They're okay, so maybe he will be, if lonely

It's true, he's under a lot of pressure to never show his negative emotions, never change, and never living up to Riku. He needs to discover who he really is and find his self-worth.
This is like the trope It Sucks to be the Chosen One.

Sora at this point is a war vet, had countless terrible things happen to him, and is always on the move, never settling down. He himself lampshades the... sadness of always going from world to world in kh2. "We're always just passing through..makes you wonder when we'll ever see home again.." he covers it up with a "just kidding!" but you know that pain was genuine. I think 3Ds is a good look into how Sora has a LOT of darkness built up, due to dark emotions from always fighting, again, in kh2, see how easy he was to anger when it came to Org 13? He smoked Demeyx, and his only statement at snuffing him out was "Who else wants some?" That is a *dark* train of thought, and if he didn't have his friends to reign him in, who knows how far down that rabbit hole he would've went?
I always wanted a game where Sora has to be ALONE, no "Friends are his power" to back him up, see how he does.
I've been thinking about this a lot
Hear me out, Sora will do whatever he believes in his heart is right, a trait he shares with Roxas, his Nobody. In KH1 and KH2, we see this as a strength of his character. But in COM? Sora climbs further and further into a castle while basically having his mind ripped apart, chasing a girl who he THINKS is his childhood friend while lashing out on anyone who stands in the way of him. Is that really heroic? And Roxas in 358/2 Days literally goes on a suicide mission to try and get Xion back and "release Kingdom Hearts" which literally has no good outcome, either he gets jumped by the organization or he gets folded by Riku, and we know what happened.
Sora's greatest strength and flaw is that for those he cares about, he'll do anything his heart tells him, even if it means throwing his life away. And as it turns out, he does just that.
I agree 100 percent I think it's important to understand sora does care for light more than darkness but that care is completely overshadowed his friends and like you said he will do anything for them. I think that's part of why sora is the chosen one in the grand scheme of things he doesn't care about light or dark just saving his friends and I think that alone keeps him from being blinded by the light or consumed by the darkness. Obviously he's chosen for more reasons like being able to connect hearts or being the one that caused light to prevail. But he couldn't have been that without his friends not because he wielded light that is just a happy side effect.
@@tbenigma4817I agree. Sora doesn't discriminate between light and dark. He was ready to easily forgive Ansem when he thought he saved Kairi. He's open enough to have a conversation with Vanitas, even trying to convince him to be something more than just "Darkness". I think he feels comfortable making extreme sacrifices because he knows his friends are there for him, without them, he wouldn't have gotten this far and vice versa.
It's super brief but i love that the manga gave us a little extra insight into Sora's thought process when he activates Rage Form. His mind is overwhelmed by thoughts of vengeance and he *will* attack his friends in a blind fury. Sora keeps his happy-go-luck optimism mask up so much he probably doesn't have any healthy outlets for his negative emotions. RE:COM alludes to this, saying Sora is a siphon for other people's pain that will shatter if he can't bear that burden.
That would be so interesting to see happen in-game, maybe where Sora has gotten so used to being on his own that he doesn't recognise his friends when he's so wrapped up in his darkness and rage and attacks them? It would be cool to have a boss fight where we have to calm Sora down or get through to him, especially if they let us see how powerful and dangerous he actually is from the perspective of his target.

Which chapter did he use rage form? I saw the image on the wiki but it didnt say which chapter
I just realized something while watching that beginning DDD scene between Sora and Roxas.
Both Roxas and Ventus, respectively, tell Sora and Vanitas they they're the same person. Yet both Sora and Vanitas say no, that they're each their own person. Both Roxas and Ventus claim to be the same person as Sora and Vanitas, while Sora and Vanitas oppose it.

Sora is our best boy...our light in the darkness, and while he has flaws, he is someone I believe everyone should aspire to be more like! Imagine a world where people were more kind, brave, a better friend....and as a 36 year old woman, I find myself asking all the time "what would Sora do" AND THAT is a hero! Someone that inspires you to be a better human....regardless if it's a 15 year old fictional anime boy from a video game! ❤
Even so, the other Guardians should put in more the effort, as well. This is my main reason to enjoy the fics "Sea-Change of Fate", "Shadows Alight" and "I'll be there to bring you back" SO MUCH ! another thing to look at: from the Destiny Islands being destroyed to the final battle at Scala Ad Caelum and being spirited away to Quadratum, all that was in the span of 2 years. 2 Years. And that's not even counting the 10 years he kept Ven safe. Even for a adult, that is a lot to go through, and the fate of the multiverse is on the shoulders of a 16 year old who didn't even have a chance to enjoy his teenage years.... yeah, he would be cracking at this point

I would love a world where Sora is saved by a person who aligns themselves with darkness doing bad things for the greater good. Like Anakin whose Fallen to the Dark Side but has embraced it to save Padme. I'd imagine him telling Sora he'd do anything to protect the people he loves and that its not always a rewarding and can tare you down but there are some things that have to be done for the sake of others.
Sora has a great darkness in his heart not from an evil but from lack of light. He feels he has no worth by himself and is plagued with feelings of inadequacy.

Another fun fact. In Dream Drop, when Roxas talks to Sora and his Darkness drags him into the Abyss of Sleep. Riku's Voice raises him up out of it. The last time this happens before the Xigbar exposition, Riku speaks, and the Light appears in front of Sora.
Then, Sora dreams a Memory Riku and Sora had together of meeting Aqua, a scene in BBS that reinforced that Riku is the Light.
To confirm it, Xigbar states when Ansem, Seeker of Darkness pushes Sora back into a second sleep, that "he" almost woke Sora up. (The he is Riku)
Sadness and anger do not equate to hopelessness or loss of character. A hero does not become evil simply because they lose something dear to them. One's own decisions are what determine that. Sora, time and time again, decides to do what he knows is the right thing, despite what his own emotions and desires are. We could assume Sora "doesn't talk about" his negative thoughts because when trying to help others be happy it helps to demonstrate being happy yourself. Aside from that, dwelling on negative thoughts is often detrimental. People who are not happy or hopeful naturally assume others are also undergoing internal conflict. But the reality is that hopeful people dismiss negative thoughts and emotions much more easily than "neutral" people do. Yeah, Sora experiences negative thoughts and emotions sometimes, but he cheers himself up almost immediately. Not because he's lying to himself or the people around him, but because he genuinely believes it. He is not the chosen one who is FORCED to be a beacon of light to others. He is the chosen one because he WANTS to be a beacon of light to others. Simply put, he would have never been the chosen one if he didn't want to be. It's a similar argument to "One must imagine Sisyphus happy" but with the alternative perspective of a character fulfilling a destiny they were made for, instead of being made to fulfill a destiny.
8:13 I’m glad you pointed out that Sora really doesn’t have any personal stakes in this battle. He never met the wayfinders, he barely knows Roxas and Axel, he wasn’t even chosen to use the keyblade, he doesn’t even have beef with Xehanort.
In a sense he’s basically a side character yet he puts in more work than almost all the other guardians and bets his own life on it growing stronger by the minute, it’s why he’s one of my favorite characters in video games, he’s just such a nice guy.

That scream in kh 3 in the keyblade graveyard broke me into pieces.
Fun fact: The Light that is coming from the Door to Darkness, the one that Sora says is Kingdom Hearts,..... is coming from Riku. The Final Mix scene of Riku in KH1 shows Mickey telling Riku to feels his Friends Hearts. Riku has a Vision of Sora, then Massive Light happens. This is reinforced by the scene in Fragmentary Passage where the Light appears and then the beginning of Riku Final Mix scene appears.
The Reason Sora says Kingdom Hearts is Light is because Riku's Light, the Kingdom Key, made of Riku's Heart is in Sora. So, Sora just knows, I think.
Riku is the Light within the Darkness.

And Donald wants to say the BBS Trio is “more dependable” than Sora. I honestly think that Sora’s problems lie on the fact that people are putting too much pressure on him. Donald takes jabs at Sora’s strength(because he’s joking, but still) when everyone else acknowledges that he seemed weaker, it was creating a bigger effect on his self esteem. Sora fights for others, but when he became too dependent on that, he forgot he could forge his own power. No shade to every character, but Sora has done the MOST while everyone else had been beaten in basically their first round. I feel like he deserved WAY better than being ostracized for stuff that hadn’t even been his fault(a fault of writing, not characters(except Yen Sid, he sucks))
I hope Sora lashes out on Donald and Yen Sid verbally when he, Donald, and Goofy all reunite.

Actually Sora had seen stuff with death even more times, then you think he did, the stuff with Will, Sora resulted in physically assaulting Davy Jones instead of using the keyblade, because he thought Will died, there was also Finn in Tangled, there are many elusions to death in the disney worlds too.
I agee with this video, I'd like to see Sora have the development of accepting his feelings and being able to drop the mask at times that are extremely serious or important to him without losing his normal personality either. I actually think that acceptance of those feelings will be a big plot point that will allow him to be able to wield the power of darkness along with the power of light in KH4. Because we know Sora is one of the 7 crowns, his heart is too strong for darkness to control.Terra always has to catch the strays 😂😂 he kinda deserves it. Great video!
I think Sora has been bottling up his negative emotions for longer than what you might think. I am of the opinion that this issue stretches all the way back to the first time he met Donald and Goofy, when they told him "No frowning. This ship runs on happy faces!". While this was obviously an attempt to cheer Sora up, I think he internalized it as meaning that he could could stay with them if he was outwardly cheerful, and for the longest time they have been his only permanent companions, his only chance of making sure Riku and Kairi are safe.
Think about it, how often does Sora let himself show negative emotions for more than a few seconds in front of him?
For all that it is never acknowledged in the story, I think Anti-form was the first sign of all these unprocessed negative emotions building to a head.

I think it would be really cool to see Sora give in to the darkness a little bit. That’s when Riku could find him and teach him to walk with both the light and darkness, like he does.

Sora really is a beacon of light in my algorithm of darkness on UA-cam.
Take my observation with some grains of sea salt ice cream, but I do believe with what others observed and have pointed out to me before that, Sora learned half of this type of masking behavior the moment Donald told Sora to be good and to have no sad faces only happy faces to continue on their journey together. He has his heart set in finding his friends, so in that very moment is when it works to benefit him. But the further he keeps that mask up the more he relies and uses it and keeps putting pressure on himself to keep it up. Making Sora believe that he has to keep on that face and mask to always be happy for others and to keep going on not allowing for a moment to show others he is sad. A lot of his enemies try very hard to make Sora break and cry as well, so he keeps going while on guard to look stronger for the enemies.
I liked those perspectives on why Sora is not breaking down as much as you would think he would be.
Knowing this also makes that scene of Sora poking a jab and joke about Donalds face being unforgettable all the more endearing knowing Donald is the one to tell Sora in the beginning of their journey to not have a sad face. 😂
And noo, not that sad scene of him crying! I cried hearing Sora’s painful wail as he loses everyone he loves and cherishes in that scene when playing it, especially when he says he’s worthless without them. I cried so hard for him and always get a hit of sadness from hearing or seeing it once again.
Thanks for the emotional ride here. And hopefully Sora gets some time to think in the next game and we get more insight into how he feels and how he has felt about everything.
With each game, Sora has been submerged in Darkness more and more, but he is not like Riku who knows how to keep ot at bay, Sora has even invited a bit of that darkness into his own heart and continues to do so even if unconsciously (his empathy that is as strong as Xehanort)
This darkness is also what makes him go beyond a limit, to break all natural laws of the world and taboos for his friends, the brigther the light the deeper the shadow, but this is also whats needed, the reason Vanitas was trully defeated by him is because by accepting that darkenss he gave shape to that without
In KH3 we also see the begining of control over his darkness, no more a random occurrence, it now can appear at any time but it is his own will to use it, and now, unlike before, he still can use the keyblade with it
KH4 could be a reckoning for Sora, and Yozora may be the final piece for him to trully grow

Sora is an eternal white mage saving/protecting everyone that doesn't know boundaries i relate to him very much however I have firm boundaries with my family found and otherwise, Sora would do well to find that for himself
MoM is Sora - being given the keyblade earlier than was intended for him to obtain one causes the events of the games we play, if Sora gained his keyblade as per the originally intended timeline it would've been later after Destiny Islands falls to darkness causing Sora a completely different journey without the Disney gang by his side.
MoM is Sora, if Sora as a pure light faced darkness alone. As different and 'too far gone' as the Master of Masters is, he truly is Sora at the core of his heart as is shown through the Master's personality and behavior an matching mannerisms.
I've always considered the fact that after what happened at the end of kh3 I'm somewhat considering that sora will finally give in to the darkness in kh4

The fact this is the second video I’ve seen about Sora’s mask could make something come up.
KH4 is definitely gonna touch upon Sora's true mentality for sure. If The whole Sora Lost His Memory in Quadratum is indeed True, This will make a Fresh Start like how KH4 will be for the series. With Sora going on a Journey to Recover his Identity while Battling his Inner Darkness and coming to Embrace his Flaws and make them his Power like his Best Friend Riku did

Having a mask to hide your personality can take a toll on your mental health if done long enough I know because I’ve been down that road before I used to fake happiness to make friends I can’t pretend to be happy because I was doing it for 3 long years once I was out of high school and already graduated I had a lot of time to reflect on things as a result I’m a more confident and still shy person myself in a way I’ve become a better version of myself that I once dreamed of having
why you gotta me relive that screaming scene. I cried so hard at kh3 I get it a lot of people didn't like it...but yeah the one we are with the whole time doesn't get to be happy. It isn't fair no matter what you think. I mean I am happy that Axel, Xion and, Roxas are back....seriously when their reunion came ugh they are my favorite trio...we see their friendship grow...and that is why the Xion fight is so freaking hard.

In Kingdom Hearts I, Sora is confused and unsure of himself. It does mature and eventually finds Kairi and Riku again, only to be pulled away from them both. He also got turned into a Heartless but changed back due to retaining his heart (not actually losing it to a Heartless) and assumingly Kairi being a Princess of Light. This also explains why Roxas was an abnormality for Nobodies as Roxas' was not the same as the other Organization members.
In Chain of Memories, Sora was essentially gaslighted and had his memories manipulated during his time in Castle Oblivion. Although, it is unknown of Sora is actually able to remember anything that happened there and anything related to it could be attributed to Roxas. It is heavily implied in Roxas' dreams that it is an expunged memory.
In Kingdom Hearts II, he is tackling an identity crisis due to Roxas. Sora is also at risk during battle to change into Anti-Form where Sora loses the Keyblade and attacks like an enraged heartless and being more animalistic. It is also coded to be most likely to trigger during Organization XIII boss fights indicating his frustration and anger towards them. Sora and Riku are almost killed by Xehanort during the final boss fight.
In Kingdom Hearts 3D, Sora is nearly made a pawn of Master Xehanort being only saved thanks to Ventus shielding him and Riku rescuing him. This likely put pressure on him being the Chosen Keyblade Weilder, which is not explained further more than it should, unless I am forgetting something. Plus, Yen Sid promoted Riku to officially the rank of Master, and not Sora due to succumbing to Darkness, despite it being due to things beyond his control.
Kingdom Hearts III is where Sora essentially gets traumatized. Due to not receiving the rank of Master, Sora doubts his ability to live up to expectations, is shown the worst side of people, and is toyed with at every point by the New Organization XIII.
There is one scene in Kingdom Hearts III with Davy Jones where Sora assumed that William was killed, unsummons his Keyblade, and jumps onto Davy Jones attempting to beat him up in blind rage. This game gives you access to Rage Form which is essentially Anti-Form, except better where Sora can still use his Keyblade but attacks with Darkness assuming to give into his own rage. It's not just a gameplay thing. During the final boss fight, Xehanort forces Sora into that state in an attempt to inhibit him only to backfire.
There is also the timeline where all Sora's friends are killed by a Heartless maelstrom causing Sora to fall to his knees and screaming in agony and losing all hope with Riku attempting to give him words of encouragement to continue fighting. Sora is only able to save everyone from this fate through the Power of Waking, which he mistakenly abused by essentially reverting time and bring people back from the dead, which is why he is banished to "Unreality" for essentially breaking a law written into reality forbidden such a thing, only for Sora to defy and break said law. He also sees Kairi slain in front of him by Xehanort causing him to blindly dash at him.
Maybe in Kingdom Hearts I it will be about Sora letting go of the anxiety and anger or giving into it in a desperate attempt to get back home.
If a Star Wars world is allowed to be made by Square Enix, there is likely to be a moment where Sideous and/or Vader tempting/encouragimg Sora to give into the Darkness to give him access to new possibilities and easier means of getting home.
Of the latest concept of Kingdom Hearts IV, which may have changed, Sora is assumedly in a realm where Heartless didn't initially exist.
Although it is a bit annoying not hearing much further aside from teased ideas from Nomura, I think it is preferred to have radio silence and being tight lipped about the project. After all, KH4 is supposed to be a start of a new saga with next one heavily hinted to be the Master of Masters potentially being the antagonist or maybe twisted to some wiseman figure.
Finally, there is Yozora who is an abnormality in the series. He was heavily featured and mentioned in Toy Box with ridiculously well-made "advertisement" for a video game in the base game, only for him to appear as the final superboss of the DLC that Sora actively acknowledges recognizing him but Yozora not recognizing him, but knows Sora's name, yet his idea of saving Sora is to relentlessly attack and case him in ice/crystal (which is probably going to be the canonical outcome due to how ridiculously hard the boss is even on Standard Mode).

I’m currently in the process of a full play through of the series again and honestly ever since kh1 Sora has never had the ability to deal and process the things negatively impacting him mostly due TO his friends. Part of the promise Sora made to Donald and Goofy was to always smile and be happy (like he JUST lost his world, both of his closest friends, and isn’t sure that anyone he knows is actually alive why WOULDNT he be sad), and every single time since whenever Sora gets upset they always say for him to just BE happy, not process whatever he’s dealing with but instead to bottle it up because other people rely on him. As the series goes on and expands and Sora gets more and more darkness thrown at him while protecting light he never has a chance to stop and really process whatever he’s doing and gone through. Like the entire main line story with Sora takes place in like what? A year and a half? Two years? And for an entire year of that he was essentially in a coma? By the time of dream drop I don’t think he has the room to be sad anymore with how much is riding on him and him alone and that bleeds into kh3 until literally everything goes to shit and he has no idea what to do. Also Sora from 3 is pretty explicit that his friends are his power and that he’s powerless without them till the end game where he saves them all, and this might be an over analysis but in kh3 he only uses keyblade transformations with keyblades given to him in the worlds , never his own keyblade, but in the trailer we’ve seen for kh4 he transforms the kingdom key thus is using his own full power so I think he’s starting to unpack everything that he’s gone through now that everything is more or less taken care of from his perspective.
I think Sora should get some therapy or at least not do EVERYTHING for everyone (Ik technically it was Riku who did everything but they only won because of Sora)
I know soras a fictional character but I'm kinda scared for him, he's been through a lot especially while trying to keep a mask up, I'm not saying he's the only one to go through hardship, but he's the one who's been through a lot, and who might have the most cracks

I’m really scared that Sora is just going to break from the pressure finally being to much for him and start to lash out in KH4. He’s been trying to push down his negative emotions for so long that eventually they’re going to explode out of him.

Fun fact, what you mention around 5:10 has happen a few times before in the series, don't believe me, look well at the cutscene after the defeat of Captain Hook in KH1, downward look blank face, immediately proceeds to talk about something else when everyone was worry, trying to take their minds and the players away regarding his true feelings about losing Kairi again when she was so close.
Sora had this problem for a while, and ironically, i believe that Donald and Goofy are to blame when trying to cheering him up before their journey told him to smile, to not frown... This bottles up stuff, the different forms of Darkness are proof that Sora isn't in control of his negative emotions and the way they unleash in each game, it's almost as if something from deep inside Sora is exploting, like it can't be hold back.
This is what i actually believe is the problem, a bad copying mechanism that 2 adults thoughtlessly taught a kid without realizing that at the point they meet him, he didn't have the tools to properly use it, and they didn't taught them to him.
What makes this even more sad is that even a DATA version didn't get away from the pressure.😢

I hope that now that Sora is alone in KH4, we might see him through humane lenses, see how he deals with "ordinary" life after all he's been through. KH4 is not the final game, but to me, it feels like a final chapter in Sora's story, something Like the Hobbits from Lord of the Rings after their adventure across middle earth. Heck, I see Sora's ending being something like Frodo's. He's seen so much, been through great pain, it's almost, if not, long overdue time to rest.
Maybe by the end of KH4, he decides to stay in Quadratum, living the rest of his days as an ordinary 17-year-old young man, with his new roomate, new friends, and hopefully, no need for him to the the chosen one"...

The chance I made it this far is something so tiny so small there isn't a number that exists that would come close to expressing it... And like Sora I'm nott a coward or a villain... I'm a hero one of the best I dare say... Saying I speed run life on hard mode is amassive undertsandment I speed run and trive from a viod world start in Minecraft Like anyone would in creative.... According to my count, he was holding back that for pain about 2 years. Plus, Roxas's close to a year's worth of memories. He almost broke in KH2 when Siax was pointing out that Sora was helping Organization XIII with his Keyblade. If it wasn't for Maleficent's interference, he might have faulter.

In a fic named "Sea-Change of Fate", Kairi and the other Princesses find a way to share the Beast's curse. I hope Sora finds some similar way to strengthen himself like that.

Not a bad idea. Remember why aqua did not give sora a keyblade? Something about one keyblade being enough for a friendship? Something she has decided due to the events that happened is bbs which were caused by xeanort and in turn the MOM. So in the timeline where the MOM did not exist and we assume a lot of things happened similarly then would that not mean both riku and sora would have been given keyblades in bbs. Something to think about

@terralecoutain3056 could be but that would raise the question of if sora was either ment to be a normal boy or a mirror to riku. If riku was meant to get the keyblade then perhaps sora was meant to become the darkness to his light. If that's the case then we could see an interesting story soon where riku who was destined for the light fell into darkness and found the road out to the surface to use both and then sora might be the opposite where he fell into light and now needs to find his way to use darkness in the middle ground
