    I couldn't help myself, after spending a few hours today watching GShock videos I decided to pull the trigger on the titanium camouflage. However, I didn't buy this watch outright like I do other pieces, I decided to put this hot mama on layaway so I can have something to look forward to. I really like the camo ones but it's not a watch you can match with everything. The black one is too similar to the resin watch... The big point titanium, or metal in general, brings over resin is long term durability. I daily wore a G-Shock Frogman when I was in the Navy and the band broke where it fed through the clasp. It took 10 years and at that point, it was cycled out of my daily wear. I would say with 5-7 years of daily wear and being exposed to sweat and the elements, the band would fail. Metal wouldn't have that same issue but I also don't think I would subject a metal watch to those conditions.

    • @raksh9
      @raksh9 4 роки тому +1

      A resin band is easily replaced, but I get your point. The durability of a good bracelet isn't to be sneezed at.

      The squares have an easily replaceable band and bezel. As a matter of fact i have at least 3 reserve bands for my 5 squares. There really is no point in choosing one over the other, since you can have both (and a composite plastic/metal one for the non metal squares).

      @@MrPleers Well, i have like 5 squares, and only one of thems is a beater, since i wouldnt want to destroy the resin case of the limited edition models. I would say anything more than the $49 square is really an enthusiast watch. The GW5000 being probably the grail even though it’s only $300. The metal models are more of a luxury or stealth luxury offering. I own the GW5000 and the black metal model which I picked up for my girlfriend at an event when Mr. Ibe was in town. It’s like the Omega Speedmaster Pro with all the sapphire sandwich or limited editions when you know the cheapest is actually the one to get that is actually certified by NASA. That doesn’t mean much to most and people are willing to pay more for the luxuries. I don’t think anyone (average folks) would ever walk up to pick up a $1500 square g Shock in impulse...okay maybe a few more in Silicon Valley but it’s safe to say that is unlikely as a handrail statement. Thanks for the review, it’s helpful to know how they actually hold up, I am always cautions in coated watches and we all know all coatings will eventually wear off.

    • @onemoretime8045
      @onemoretime8045  4 роки тому +1

      The GW 5000 was my first grail G-Shock seven years ago. For me, it's a hard to beat watch that has stood the test of time as I still own it and wear it today. The hobby of watches is an interesting one however. We always seem to look for that next watch, but sometimes that first watch that got us into the hobby may be all we ever needed. It is why I have recommended the cheaper square G-Shocks, they give you just that.

      That's a good question. Many people were able to get 40% off on black Friday. I can't say for sure if such an opportunity will arise again however. Perhaps if these don't get discontinued too soon and stay on the market for a while, I can see retailers discounting their dead stock. It is a very niche item and may be hard for them to sell once the hype dies down. Time will tell.

      @@onemoretime8045 It's been a year, now we have a ton of aftermarket chinese titanium kits that will basically transform any square in a titanium one, and the finish is practically the same. Says who ? I buy a resin G Shock as a beater watch. And a stainless steel one because I really enjoy the look of a stainless digital watch. And "unnecessary attention" ? In the 70's most digital watches were made of steel. And became resin later to save cost. Nowadays, few digital watches are made out of metal. And I for one are very happy to see some steel ones again. A golden Rolex might get you "unnecessary attention", but a steel digital watch ? I suggest you stick with a F-91W in that case.

    The mineral crystal on G-Shocks is intentional and definitely not an Achilles Heel. Even though sapphire is more resistant to scratches, mineral is more resistant to shock failure. I.e. It won't shatter like sapphire.
    For a watch designed to take abuse, the ability of mineral to withstand blunt force trauma without shattering is why it was chosen and why it has remained all these years. By introducing sapphire, G-Shock is admitting that these variations are for show only.

    • @onemoretime8045
      @onemoretime8045  4 роки тому +8

      Definitely a point of contention among many watch enthusiasts. It is perhaps subjective which is truly better. I will say however, that I personally prefer sapphire and have never heard of any G-shock with a cracked sapphire crystal. Furthermore all G-Shocks are tested to the same standards of shock resistance whether they are sapphire or mineral crystal.
