Tatra T813 was a truck produced in Czechoslovakia (middle Europe) by the Tatra company. It was produced from 1959 to 1982. 8x8, V12, 17 640 cm3, 198.6 kW (266 hp) @ 2000 rpm, 990 N·m (730 ft·lbf) @ 1300 rpm.
I have a Duramax Diesel, removed the cat converter, detuned it to get less MPG (but more power). Smells great. I ride with all 4 windows down hoping the wind wraps the perfume into the truck. I wrote to Gore about this success story
I love these trucks - they have been assembled in Kopřivnice Czech rep, just 50km from where I live - I went for some shows them use to do....no other truck is like Tatra.... For truck lovers - another modification of this truck fights every year in Rally Paris - Dakar and won several times...
Czech republic, it says in the description. If I remember rightly from the coverage that got briefly shown in the UK years ago its largely Germans and French that take part in this. It may have been taken over by Russians by now I dunno I just stumbled across it lol.
Black smoke means that there is to much diesel fuel and not enough air. You see smoke mostly at low revs and full throttle when the turbo is not delivering enough air for the high amount of fuel that gets injected. Other than that, theres no problem. It won't hurt an old diesel engine.
Oh, I served the danish military for 9 years, and I now whats mud is and driving off-road in trucks and tanks is! But that served a purpose, both for training of the national military defense and in the IFOR forces back in 96 in Serbia...
I actually don't think so. Oh sure, during rushhour, they are. - but - You also have to add all the off hour time, where they are driving around nearly empty. During that time the Car sits in the driveway where it doesn't pollute. So in the overall picture, I think public transport is actually more polluting than, say, a bunch of small cars. Not to mention they are heavier, have to drive longer routes and never seem to deliver you at exactly where you need to go. The car does.
Is this his first time in the mud, once it stops moving you are stuck... back up a few feet and try again... don't back up til you get it stuck backwards too... And you really have to try to get this thing stuck it has 8 drive wheels...
Considering how few of those trucks exists, people really shouldn't be worried about how much they pollute. It's the everyday consumer cars, trucks, lorries and tractors that make the main share of the pollution. Well, after public transport like Aeroplanes, trains and busses offcourse. The few specialist vehicles like this one, are so few it doesn't even matter if they burnt even twice as much as they do now.
@12valvepower1 mate bet you didnt know but that black smoke coming out of the exhaust is actually less harmful than smoke coming out of a petrol car. so in a way hes doing them a favour :)
Michael Coulter These specific brands may not commercialize in the USA, but I'm pretty sure you can find american truck manufacturers that sell twin steer trucks, and if you want something that can perform like this, you can check with companies that sell heavy construction machinery - or ask someone in the military involved with the engineering corps, since I believe they use some trucks similar to these.
Michael Coulter no problem. According to wikipedia, the Tatra 815 is imported by the USA for use as firetrucks, and there is a US company that makes specialty all-wheel drive trucks - particularly for the military - called Oshkosh Defense. The military name for them is: Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck All these trucks appear to not be a consumer item, so it might be difficult to purchase one as a regular citizen, but like I said, ask the people who do buy them (military, fire corps, heavy machinery companies, etc). Good luck ;)
+godthisisannoying You can find something similar, but it's not gonna be all wheel independent suspension. They only swing axles, but back bone style, no drive shafts exposed. I believe thats what makes them unique. With all that said it would maybe outperform with decent reliability, but it's still very old tech, they start making these in 30's, wikipedia even dates first example to 1923. Passenger models were using same suspension in rear too. One thing i was always wondering is how bad are swing axles for tire wear too...

@Justy330 The cat on your Cummins doesn't reduce black smoke. The DPF does. A cat only reduces the CO.
