Perhaps imo, the best alkan piece. His other works sound like crap tbh, this one kind of does too but it has some musicality in it at least. Just getting into Alkan lately, so I don't really know much about his other pieces.
I guess his style is a very much acquired taste, personally, I really like his etudes, but I definitely see why most wouldn’t there are some parts that annoy me. I do agree with you on this being at least one of the best, maybe below Le Festin or one other that I’m forgetting. Also, if you haven’t heard of Mereaux, I recommend his etudes, no. 45 and 60 are very good imo, but really almost any one shouldn’t be too bad.
1 year later, I am glad to say I've completely changed my view of this, I've found way better works like the grand sonata, the concerto, symphony, saltarelle, une fusee and my personal favorite: Scherzo Focoso!
