    Great! Thanks for the video. Spent a week fiddling with the 7610 and mac os controls. After following your video it worked on an imac with the IC 7610, Mac OS Mojave and the latest WSJT-X.

    I plan to buy an Icom 7610 in the future. Is a SignaLink interface box needed between the Icom 7610 and the computer, or is the Icom 7610 connected directly to the computer with the USB cable? Is a special USB cable needed? Is the USB cable included with the Icom 7610? If the Icom 7610 can be connected directly to the Windows computer, is there any advantage to using a SignaLink box between the Icom 7610 and the Windows computer?

      @SouthernManinDakotas 5 років тому

      Hi Dave, thanks for viewing and thank you so much for commenting here. No a SignLink is not needed. Just a USB cable. The USB2.0 cable is the mani one and then if you want to do HDSDR you will use an additional USB3.0 cable. Neither are included with the Icom 7610. No advantage using a SignaLink, the 7300 and 7610 both are FB.
      Sample USB2.0. you can find a cheaper one and even add your own ferrite. amzn.to/2UVbqGL
      USB3.0 amzn.to/2V28lop
      I hope this helps and thanks again, 73!

    Thanks Rich. Paying $ is fine, but for me the R\$ at 14:1 is expensive! I really like HRD. Using the trial at the moment

    You mentioned your Mac in the video, have you connected WSJT-X to the Mac without running HRD? I use Mac Logger DX for my primary rig control but normally when I was running my IC-9100 I would just close that program and run WSJT-X or FLDIGI as independent programs.
    Mac Logger DX is working on the 7610 but I can't get the other programs running. Any thoughts? thx de AF1US

      Hey Brian,
      That's a great question and no I don't have it working on the Mac with WSJT-X. I am like you.
      I suppose choosing None for rig is the way for now.
      MacLoggerDX works FB.
      If something comes up, I'll mention it here.

    Rich, I've duplicated your settings on my 7610 using a Windows 10 machine. No joy. My comm port numbers are com5 is A and 4 is B. I have also tried the (WSJT-X) IC-7300,7200, and the 7700 radios and still get the dreaded: Hamlib error: Communication bus error while getting current frequency. Migrating from my 7300 to the 7610 I just removed the usb cable from the 7300 and just plugged it into the 7610 usb connector. (not the blue) What rig are you using for WSJT-X?

      @HamRadioAdventures  6 років тому

      Hi Maurice,
      Nice to hear from you and thank you for commenting. WSJT-X doesn't have the 7610 yet for a rig, so I am using Ham Radio Deluxe as the rig. Start here: ua-cam.com/video/0G8Jlb-l9KQ/v-deo.htmlm14s
      That should do it!
      Let me know.

      Same here, no joy. Connecting the IC7610 to WSJTx direct no logging software using the USB A port. I will give you a thumbs up if you can crack it.

    • @mauricecraft890
      @mauricecraft890 6 років тому

      Other than the logging problem, are you able to decode WSJT-X? I have my 7610 working on FT-8.

    • @HamRadioAdventures
      @HamRadioAdventures  6 років тому

      Hi Earl, I am using Ham Radio Deluxe for the rig in WSJT-X and you can use DX Labs Suite Commander if you don't want HRD. Then you can just use DX Lab for rig, log your QSO's into WSJT-X's log and later import the WSJT-X log into another program. 73's Rich

    Hi Rich. Thanks for posting. I'll master the 7300 first & save for BIG BROTHER. Looks like an awesome rig 😂Quick question, which logger program would you suggest I try. Must recognize digital modes for eqsl & doesn't require a paid subscription.

    • @HamRadioAdventures
      @HamRadioAdventures  6 років тому

      Hi Trent,
      Yeah, I've been using the 7610 on FT8 and I can honestly say the 7300 hold it's own. After a few months I think I'll have a better idea. The 7610 looks and sound like it has a more sensitive receiver, but we'll see.
      I got HRD when it was on sale last year around Thanksgiving and I believe I paid $70 for it. I'm still unsure of how their licensing works, but I think I can download future updates at no cost. If I want tech support it'll require a smaller fee for one year. IDKFS
      Log4OM is a great choice. I don't remember the specifics, but it worked for me and logging is great. Free.
      If I have to pay more money to update HRO I may just go to Log4OM: www.log4om.com
      Amateur Contact Log is great too. One small fee and lifetime updates I believe. I paid $20 years ago and am still downloading updates. www.n3fjp.com/aclog.html
      Let me know what you think.
      73's,
      Rich

    Is there a way to adjust the level of the ALC on the 7610 or turn it off? Or maybe it's not so important in digital modes?

    • @HamRadioAdventures
      @HamRadioAdventures  6 років тому

      Hi Mike,
      Are you referring to ALC or AGC?
      We can adjust the rig so no ALC shows, but having 1/2 to 3/4 ALC on the ALC scale is okay with these radios, actually maybe better to have some than not.
      We can turn AGC off by holding down the AGC soft button for one sec and entering the AGC menu. From there select FAST, rotate the big tuning button counterclockwise and it turns AGC off.
      I hope this helps and thank you for commenting. Best 73 - Rich, K0PIR

      Thanks for the reply. But it's ALC I'm trying to adjust or turn off. I do have digital working but want to make sure it's optimized.

      I see. According to Icom, the experts and guys who have tested it thoroughly, having ALC is okay. So I wouldn't worry about it unless it gets too high.
      Page 36 of the advanced operations manual - "When operating in the SSB data mode, adjust the device’s output level to be within the ALC zone."
      I normally don't have any ALC and it doesn't seem to hurt making contacts. Lately I've adjusted it to 1/2 to 3/4 of the ALC scale. I just want to see for myself :-)
      I hope this helps.

      Rich, K0PIR

      Hi Rich,
      I see the comment of pg 36 but is there anyway to turn it off just for grins? I thought ALC was adjustable but maybe I'm mistaken. I have worked folks from my QTH near San Diego as far away as Pennsylvania using Contestia at 25 watts with 100% print so you're right ALC doesn't seem to effect things .

      No way to just switch it off, but with the right adjustments it won't show. The things that affect the power are the radios USB MOD Level, and RF Power. The Windows Sound Playback device level and the slider in the software also are adjusted.
      My USB Mode Level is 40% and I usually have my RF Power set to 30 to 40%.
      Adjust the Windows Sound Playback and the slider in the software and you should be able to eliminate ALC.
      See if that works.

    My Mod Input does not show as much as your Mod Input, I checked my firmware and it is 1.20, can you shed light on this ? I have one setting there, not all that you show.

    Amazing video Richard and very informative. After all the settings completed does everything work OK when you switch to SSB mode? Specifically signal strength metering?

    • @HamRadioAdventures
      @HamRadioAdventures  6 років тому

      Hi Peter,
      Thank you for commenting. I was sleep deprived by Sunday morning. This is a fun radio just like the 7300. I'm hoping to get them side by side soon.
      I haven't experienced any problems with the signal strength metering. Just this morning I was going back and forth between FT8 on 80M and LSB on 80M. Trying to figure out the best and quickest way while using Dual Watch. No surprises, working pretty darn well.
      While on SSB, turning down the RF Gain will reduce the signal strength meter, just like on the 7300.
      My radio had the latest firmware already installed and I was surprised at that, but happy all the same.
      The only thing I have noticed is when turning AGC off for digital modes I have to turn down the RF Gain more than on the 7300. Evidentially the 7610 is more sensitive. I was trying some different AGC settings and am using 0.1.
      Let me know what you hear Peter.
      73,
      Rich, K0PIR
