    at 4minutes and 53 seconds you see the vise with the yaw motor sitting on top. I have switched methods a bit. I now set the yaw motor down in the vise with it sitting on the ears of the casing. This is to prevent damage to the motor.

    Thanks for the video Ted! I just repaired a Phantom 4 Pro gimbal with your help! It had a cracked hall sensor. We have multiple of these drones that crashed over the years, we use them in water management works, all of them had motor and structural failures. Your video was a big help!👍

    I really appreciate your descriptions, I compliment you for your commitment. I sheared the gimbal arm and also the flat cable of the yaw motor. If I understand correctly I have little hope of realigning it if I buy a new motor .. is it right? Unfortunately I have already bought an yaw motor on Amazon and one apparently the same has arrived but with many very small differences, I send it back because, it is not possible to mount it correctly. What can I do? I'm extremely worried and don't know how to fix it.

    • @Droneted
      @Droneted  4 роки тому

      DJI had two different yaw motors. The original older yaw motor had a different casing. It was pretty much perfectly round. The newer yaw motor casing was more rectangle on top where it mounted. That is the one you see in my video. The actual motor with windings and sensors is the same on both. It is just the mounting that is different. As long as you use the original casing off your gimbal you would be ok. Be careful buying yaw motors off ebay as most are used and may not be any good. Check the sensors with a magnifying glass to be sure they are not scratched.
      If you email me a photo of your yaw motor I can tell you which you have. It is not a direct replacement and you must use your original casing. It probably will not center if you just swap the entire yaw motor.

    I replaced me esc in my p4 because my camera was facing left and now it centers when I turn it off but when I turn it on again it goes back to the left every time is it the yaw motor?

    • @Droneted
      @Droneted  3 роки тому

      the esc is programed to the yaw motor casing. The original esc and yaw motor casing must be used. If you replace the esc you have to experiment with several casings to find one that matches. This can take a long time. You probably had a bad yaw motor when you started. The hall sensors get damaged very easily. Even just a hard landing will do it. If you still have the original esc yaw encoder, put it back and replace the yaw motor using the original casing off the original yaw motor

    Thank you Ted, my Phantom 4 just crashed and gimbal won’t stop moving slightly to the left and right. Do you think the yaw motor is screwed? Because I just saw another video of a guy who replaced the ESC board and he said that might be the problem as well...BTW in gimbal settings whenever I try to auto calibrate it, it gets stuck at 5% or 50% and then I get Gimbal Overload warning. Also, when I try to adjust Yaw values, I don’t have any numbers as opposed to the Roll settings in which I do have value numbers. When I try to adjust roll settings, it barely moves like 2 numbers and when I try to adjust yaw settings it won’t move at all. I’ve also noticed that whenever gimbal tries to move to the right, that’s when it becomes stuck moving left to right, but when it moves to the left, it works perfectly.

    • @Droneted
      @Droneted  3 роки тому +1

      most of the time it is the yaw motor. I always start there. Yours sounds like a classic case of the hall sensors being damaged. If you watch video #1 It moves back and forth

      @@Droneted Thanks for replying Ted, I forgot to mention that sometimes the horizon line doesn’t center well which makes me think the roll motor could be damaged as well? Or maybe it’s all because of the yaw motor. What do you think?

    Hi Ted, Thanks for doing the video. I've replaced the yaw motor and ribbon, using the old bell housing. All works well except after initialization, the camera "cants" slightly to the left when pointing forward, 5~10 degrees or so. Have been flying it that way for a year or so. Do you know if this type of re-calibration needed can be done at home or does one need some type of calibration software. I've searched online and have tried many calibration methods, (drone upright, manually turning , etc.) to no avail.

    An ebay seller sold me the wrong gimbal ribbon cable. It has that extra little connector near the camera end. Will a Phantom 4 cable work on a P4Pro? I read that someone taped over the connection and it worked fine.

    • @Droneted

      yes just tape over it. I really don't like aftermarket ribbon cables. they have a high failure rate.

    Hi, what should i do if the housing from the original yaw motor is damaged when changing yaw motor. I tried using it with damaged magnetic ring and now i think the ESC is broken (pitch motor and ESC gets super hot and the whole gimbal shakes violently). I have a new housing but the gimbal did of course not point center when i used it. Am i SOL and need to buy a complete new gimbal assembly? This is for P4A. Thanks :)

    Hi Ted! Thanks for the video. I replaced my yaw motor, but I'm wondering if there's something more. I never crashed the drone, but I started getting a "gimbal motor overload" warning months ago but then recently and suddenly, I started getting movement a lot like in this video ( ua-cam.com/video/ACBBodlnyu8/v-deo.html ). This is an photo of my motor after I removed it from the P4P, and you can see it would cause the camera to point slightly to the right as well ( biganski.wordpress.com/dji-yaw-motor-off-center/ ). So I replaced the motor and used the original casing, and the motor still was not centered. When I turned on the drone, the camera goes through its alignment setup, then points straight ahead, but then the camera "relaxes" and points a little to the right, it straightens itself up, then relaxes to the right, and this repeats. I could slightly smell the magnet motor working hard so I shut it down. Maybe I need to calibrate? Or perhaps it's something more that will require sending it off to DJI. And that will stink if that's the case, as I'll have to buy a new drone as I shoot real estate for a living. Ugh! Should I try the casing that came with the motor? It is an OEM motor for sure.

    • @Droneted
      @Droneted  4 роки тому

      was the replacement yaw motor brand new? on eBay they often used. also have you ever left the gimbal clap on by mistake. That will melt the varnish on the winding of the pitch motor and it will cause odd things to happen.

    • @LuckyInLondon
      @LuckyInLondon 4 роки тому

      @@Droneted The motor really appears to be brand new, Hong Kong writing on authentic-looking dark gray part bag, took 7 days to receive "from China," and it had the same part number stamped on the yaw cable. But now that I've disassembled this several times and feel comfortable with this, I found the replacement motor spindle was not level to the casing; it was slightly at an angle. There was also some play from top to bottom, as the spindle would not seat flush to the casing. I eventually got the motor to work and the drone started up, but the gimbal still points to the right and was still trying to corrected itself a little. Knowing my luck, I likely I have a compound problem with bad PC board, so I'm sending it off to DJI Repair in CA. I only have about 140 flight miles logged, but this drone served me well and earned me some $$, plus and I really like it so hopefully it's not going to set me back too much $$. But still, thanks for the video as it got me comfortable enough to take this thing apart, so it'll be a lot quicker to repair in the future. Cheers!
