N2 behind Japan beating South Afirica.
The greatest game played! France were awesome! Giant killers
As a proud kiwi this is got to be right up there. Can never ever underestimate the French. Ever

I remember this game. We Kiwis were shell-shocked, but the French deserved to win. RIP Christophe Dominici, a phenomenal player.
I did not even know that Dominici had passed away. That is so sad. He was electric on the field.
RIP Jonah Lomu, a rugby legend.
How about last month's game?
Cute little dance at the start...French can-can or Irish river dance at your next stadium concert?
I watched this game. I was gobsmacked. Such a shock. But France, they are the entertainers of rugby union. NZ looked like rabbits in headlights
@@Martin-pb7tstook his life a few years ago 😢
These two legends Jonah and Christophe left too soon, like some others... Let us hope that this magnificent sport will make us discover other legends...
Dupont? 🤔
J’adore ce match parce que je suis Français bien sûr mais surtout car nous pouvons revoir le meilleur joueur de rugby de tous les temps M. Jonah Lomu. Il nous a défoncé. Un grand respect pour l’homme qu’il a été toute sa vie.
One of the most epic, greatest games ever played in a Rugby World Cup.
I was there. I even managed to get some Twickenham grass after the game as a souvenir. The best game of 🏉 I've ever watched. France were on a different level that day.🇨🇵 💪
🏴 When rugby tournaments come around I support France purely because of this game. NZ with a prime Jonah Lomu, as I recall, were the reddest hottest favourites to win anything ever and just when it appeared they were about to steamroller their latest victims France took them apart in about 20 magical minutes, stealing my heart in the process. It was like watching a quality movie and I was glued to every moment. Best thing I’ve seen on a rugby pitch and my No.1 game.
A well deserved win but Lomu is in a class of his own.
Pour faire un match épique il ne faut pas qu'un vainqueur et un vaincu mais deux grandes équipes!
The one thing this video doesn't capture was the body language of the All Blacks between set pieces and when the ball was dead. They looked stunned, even haunted. Not a look I have seen on the All Blacks players before or since.
Lamaison was on another level that day
Classic match showing why you can never count the French out, when they decide to play. Lomu was something else.
Worth mentioning the outstanding commentary for this game made it even more sensational
I always loved that commentary line " Amazing stuff from the French" really gets my hairs standing.
Fantastic game! It's in my top 5 all time RWC games. 🏉
Lamaison in this game and against England in 1997 was simply unplayable
Much better commentary than the incessant non stop chattering we have these daysm.
Dan Carter and Johnny Wilkinson had longer, greater careers and WC wins, but that performance by La Maison, absolutely incredible. Also has there ever been a braver rugger than Domenici?!
LaMaison’s performance in this match was incredible and up there on the day with any outside half in rugby history.
To that point, this game was the turnaround performance in a RWC match. Down 24-10 just after halftime, the French scored 33 unanswered points. Lamaison scored 28 points himself! France were inspired that day, fair play to them. NZ would go on to suffer more heartbreak 8 years later in the QF v France in Cardiff, before we turned it around in Auckland in 2011 and in London in 2015. But the 1999 SF will long live in the memory as the underdog's triumph.
Hardly an upset. Two giants of the sport
One of the best matches ever
Fantastic....I'm sad for Lomu and Dominici....legends,their masterpiece...RIP and thanks for all
le plus grand match de rugby que je n'ai jamais vu
fun fact : Galthié and Ibanez are now France coachs
Sans blague ? On savait déjà
And Romain's father, Émile Ntamak is part of the squad
... and sad fact : the two world-class wing players who illuminated this match (Lomu and Dominici) are gone.
Snif ! 😥
Don't forget Shaun Edwards the defensive coach.
@@christianjambou8208 He was NOT in this match.
Merthens knock the nail on the head when he said we should have used Lomu a lot more .
Drop goals galore😂 love it 🌹🏉🌹
Was there. At half time we started planning for a trip to Cardiff to watch ABs in the final. Pretty dismal leaving the stadium after the game. :^D
Went to the game. An epic one but hardly an upset, nevermind the biggest in all of RWC history. Two traditional powers of the sport, in fact that was the first ever RWC final in 1987, a clash between France and New Zealand.
The English public is extraordinary, a match which is irrational and which proves all the beauty of this sport!
3:50 Jesus! Lomu against 5 frenchmen is satisfying to watch
I’m from NZ. You have to appreciate the way France stole it back in the second half. Brilliant rugby
Yeah but then they got smashed by Australia the following week in the Final lol
The French often pull something out of the bag against the ABs. Hope they repeat it on Friday.
I just watched this for the first time in 2023. What happened to the All Blacks in the second half? To think the "forward pass" win in 2007 was my favorite France v NZ game. Bring on the opening match!!
What a match
One of the greatest matches ever. Also France vrs Australia 91.
You mean '87?
@@davidparsons3432 thanks I think you’re right ! Serge blanco was on fire!
@@MikaelFlyer Yes... he was amazing.....in Oz he crushed our dream....
The frenchmen can kick with finess, for sure!
I remember watching that match. I couldn't believe how New Zealand could give that match away.
RFU = Emperor's New Clothes,
why was the first whistle for 'off side'
See you tonight guys! Let's carry on the legend.
the game of the 20th century.
Jonah lomu - too good
Dont forget lamaison.
lamison chose a good day to have the best game of his career.......from what i can remember he was pretty unremarkable apart from this day !!!
Of all the world cup matches.easily the greatest by far... Simply sensational... Just like when an older Muhammad Ali upset... outclassed... and knocked out big bad George Foreman . Love and respect...
Agree. From a springbok fan this game represents the impossible is possible
the french were unreal deserved the win sizzling back play
The referee Fleming did see quite a few drop goals in the quarter and semi finals he refereed that WC 😄
24 yrs ago most fantastic match ive seen. the french at their mercurial best and im English.
They went on to face Australia in a brilliant final, sorry France, England are still the only northern hemisphere team to win a World Cup, hopefully in 2023 we can have a brilliant match together again
Not England, only Wilkinson's foot. This 2003 final was the worst final in the history.
@@math3148 The worst? Nah. There is no such thing. For now
@@math3148 If you think that was the worst final then it's clear rugby isn't really for you.
FWIW 2007 was the worst final by a country mile.
Titou Lamaison
Hacked away by Magne
The biggest upset of all time? Not really. The All Blacks at the time were rebuilding. They had lost 5 test matches in a row in 1998, which was previously unthinkable. A lot of senior players had retired and players were playing out of position (Cullen should have been at fullback not centre, plus Umaga was arguably better as a centre not wing).
Taine Randel was my least favourite captain of the ABS. They usually lost.
If they gave Jonah the ball more then 3 times All blacks would have won they where scared of Jonah
Cullen lost that game, he wasn’t passing it to Lomu enough. Watch the game, I remember my Father and uncles were cussing Cullen out.
He wasn't used to playing centre and passing. He was a fullback so it was the coaches fault for bad selections.
I had a largely unpaid job writing previews of these WC games for an online Aussie bookie. I predicted a 12 point win for NZ but I added in my final sentence to beware of France, They had not started playing yet and if they did play their best, they would win. All the kiwis I worked with had miserable faces the following day and blamed me for NZ losing !!
The all blacks forgot to play and thought Lomu would do everything.. n they forgot that never count out French flair

France has always managed to beat the ALL Blacks at world cups
What a cute little dance at the start!
Hope the french will soon start a french can-can or the Irish a river dance.
does anyone know these australian tv guys names ?
