Thanks. It was surprising not to hear of spinach in this video, Dr. Greger and others have pointed out that more than a cup of spinach a day could result in too much of oxalates. Beet greens and chard are mentioned by them but so is spinach.

You didn’t mention spinach but I read that spinach is also very high in oxalic acid. Is that true? It seems that is one of the most common leafy greens (after lettuce) in the US.
I’m so glad I found this channel, Dr Klaper. I’m learning so much and look forward to each video

@ What Next. You can google food with highest oxalate . Yes spinach is high in oxalic acid, so avoid every day. I love spinach, I had it everyday in a smooth, I did get a kidney stone, it passed without pain. I have greens ( most lettuce and sometime kale) I now have spinach just a few times a month. It you have food with high oxalates do drink extra water. Also avoid more that 1 gram of vitamin C a day , I was taking two to three grams a day when covid. I have gone to 500mg vitamin C and 500 mg bioflavonoids.
I think drinking lot of water when having food with high oxalate. Water with lemon juice is good too. I take magnesium citrate at night.
You are welcome to write back. James

Yes but if you cook it or choose baby spinach then its lower. Sprouting all greens help too

@@jameskantor0459 Since this video title is talking about Oxalates, and as you pointed out spinach is the one that is a common food and also very high in oxalates, I would have thought it would have been the first thing that was mentioned, not cruciferous vegetables, which are great but not related to the title of the video. But I suppose they just want people to watch the video as long as possible. Your comment was more helpful than the video! Thanks!

What about powdered beets? I eat powdered beets almost everyday to up my oxygen levels as a athlete and my CO2 max as I'm told beets help with that and I have found that it has helped me a little. Is it healthy for me and people like me to take like a tablespoon or two of powdered beets?

he said its just the greens, not the beets themselves. there is so much research saying how good drinking beet juice or eating beets daily is - only worry about these things if your suffering from kidney stones.

Half a cup of cooked beet greens contains 880 MG of oxalates which is terrible knowing that healthy person can successfully get rid if only 200 MG a day. Horrible advice! Sally K Norton will open your eyes about it.

Actually i watched her videos and checked the website, it is very restrictive diet for plants, then found dr MacDougall video about kidney health and how oxalates are not absorbed from the food unless you eat high fat diet that releses the oxalate and makes them absorbed and released to the urinary tract, please check it out.
There are also lots of studies that confirms that fats make you absorb the oxalates, you can eat up to 150 mg of oxalate with a low fat diet and do not restrict your food choices that much and be safe.

I have followed the good vegan doctors' advice mostly to good effect but this one hurt me and my family.
So a correction: anyone with hyperoxaluria/oxalosis should be particularly careful to avoid spinach, chard, etc. That includes many people including those who have IBS-D or Crohn's disease, and they should certainly restrict oxalate intake likely beyond avoiding spinach smoothies into things like sweet potatoes conventional wheat vs Einkorn, Soba noodles, etc. Those with thrush or any fungal infection will likely benefit from restricting dietary oxalates as well because fungus is infamous for oxalate production.
Though not the majority of people, we are a sizeable minority and far from "nobody".

@@sowmindful1501 exactly all these vegans with chronic deficiencies, showing clearly that plants are not the way for human health!!!
Then you watch all of the carnivore UA-cam channels where they have no deficiencies and are the healthiest, strongest people you have ever seen
The evidence clearly shows that we are supposed to be mainly meat diet based animals
That’s why all of our ancestors, drew cave paintings of animals and hunting them
Don’t ever see a cave painting of a plant!!!
