Thanks for covering this! I have been thinking about the FX-30 but wondered about its photo capabilities. Other than no mechanical shutter, it looks great.
I just bought this camera after a year of wishy-washyness. I don't regret it at all. I think I am going to save up for an FX3 as my A cam and make this my B Cam. Currently I use BMPCC but I hate using them for B roll on interviews. So my plan is to continue using them for 2 camera interviews, and pop out the FX3 for b-roll.
I got the 6K Pro right now, why do you hate the BMPCC for B role? And how is the 5 handling for footage? I'm thinking of using the 5 for the auto focus and use my 6k for more professional work. Just looking for advice I guess.

Great video. Question. Does "grabbing a still" from a clip count the same as taking a still shot in proper mode? Can I get good clarity that way? (using 1:50 Frame Rate)
The variable rate shutter settibg is also available or at least settable, in photo mode. I haven't tested on light banding. But it should work on theory, right?
I’m stuck on the same decision. I want it for mostly video and I really don’t even need crazy amounts of info as I rather shoot HD over 4k for fun social media type stuff. So what’s better
Do you have the same banding issue when shooting video with this camera? You mention you get banding shooting stills in some lighting situations. Quite interested to know since I am planning to buy one.
"this operation or setting not available as follows".. That's all I get when trying to set the drive-mode to "single photo bracket".. Tried all photo modes.. I'm sure I'm doing Something wrong but what??
let me answer the question for others :) you need to disable PP (Picture Profile).. google it.. it's easy.. But having a picture profile active blocks the bracketing feature.

Hey Jason, I love your videos! Great video once again. Quick question, do you think FX30 can take photos of a kid who is constantly running around/moving?
This isn't a bad option, but the A7siii matches up darn near feature for feature, giving you an electronic viewfinder, burst frame rate of 10fps, the ability to use flash, full frame, the ability to use a same type of battery grip on both the A7siii and the A7iv, (no battery grip option for the Fx3 or fx30). The ability to use the KVM xlr adapter to hook up xlr mics or even the KVM adapter that can come with the fx30 with a small rig cage. The fx3 and fx30 can be used with a kvm handled adapter, but not vice versa because there is no electronic shutter or flash port. The A7SIII can be used with the KVM that plugs into the flash socket directly or the KVM that the fx3 and fx30 uses with an optional smallrig cage and screw mount kit, giving it ultimate flexibility and this also applies to the A7IV. I have two small rig cages for both cameras, and the kvm kit allows the fx30 and fx3 hxlr handle to work perfectly. I own both, and they match up extremely well, especially for hybrid shooting, except in one area. The A7siii is a 12mp camera. The 12mp isn't as bad as you would think as the images coming out of it for photography are stunning. It's the crop ability. The same thing that makes the A7siii great for video is what makes it great for photography, and that is its low light performance and iso. The A7SIII is really more versatile than even the fx3 and fx30, which is not necessarily better but more versatile. I own the A7siii and A7IV. As Jason said the Fx30 isn't bad if you don't need the burst rate as the menu systems for the A7siii, A7IV, Fx3 and Fx30 look almost the same with the Fx3 and Fx30 having some more video features, not alot more mind you. If price is a concern and you own an A7IV, then a plain fx3 could work for you, but for photography, the lack of the viewfinder was done on purpose. If you are just starting out and the price is a concern, then the fx30 is an outstanding option. You can shoot photography, but it is an afterthought in the FX series as these were designed with video being the primary purpose, and there are people who have used the A7siii for wedding photography.

Well, I own camera that shoots 20 frames a second, still, i have it set up for Single Shot takes. Never utilized that option.
