I’m lucky if I get 4 to 5 hours a sleep most nights. A lot of times I get out of bed so I don’t disturb him. But it is pure amazing to me how my husband can go to sleep so fast.

same but i love white noise... helps alot with my earplugs and eye mask..... so i use white noise... ear plugs to muffle the sound the white noise does not drown out, and mask because led lights are bright as hell

I used to be so puzzled as to why I couldn't ever get to sleep before midnight or even 2 or 3 am. And also as to why it took me a good 15 minutes to power down my brain on good nights. 😂😢

I had full blown panic attacks when I tried to go to bed just like my partner. What I learned from that was that you really should allow yourself to be different and lower the pressure for yourself.

Yes 👏 this is so true. As a neurodivergent woman, I've had to learn this lesson time and time again. Whenever I've tried to do the "right" (or neurotypical) thing, it's generally ended in tears. I just allow myself to be me now.

When I was younger and spent a lot of time outside, and exercised and slept on a schedule, my bedtime was much earlier than it is now. Living in places with bright lights all around has mixed up my sleep schedule to the point that I’ve habituated to a 1am bedtime (like my mom, who’s NOT a morning person like I am). I feel so much more alert even I go to bed earlier and wake before 7am in the summer (and 8 in the winter), but after 6 years of this, I feel so out of whack.

In my 20s this was hard bit in my 40s I've switched it because I wake up at the butt crack of dawn which gives me enough time to run my need for sleep into existence at bed time.

I was actually trying to explain to my mom the other day how there is a very precise category of “noise” that I require to be able to fall asleep. Not white noise or music, those are too easy to tune out and allow my brain to wander. But it can’t be an audiobook or video that I actually want to pay attention to, because that will just keep me awake. Plus there’s the fear that if I do fall asleep to those, I wouldn’t be able to remember where I dozed off and would end up frustrated trying to find the exact right spot. But there is a sweet spot of video (lately Reddit stories, but also sometimes like fact lists…in high school it was CSI cuz they’re kind of all the same when it comes down to it) that captures my brain in a temporary way where I don’t have to stay focused but it also doesn’t want to wander and THAT will allow me to fall asleep.
She…was baffled. It’s kind of hard to explain.

Yes, this totally explains my sleep patterns compared to my nuerotypical husband. As an autistic woman I have struggled with insomnia my entire life. My husband can just fall asleep anywhere and sleep for at least 8 hours. Me on the other hand struggle with getting only 4 hours of sleep and that is with sleep medication. It's very frustrating.

Type 1 bipolar. I take trazadone for sleep and try to have a set sleeping schedule...which means having a set medication schedule. As well as limiting caffeine. Even then, sometimes I struggle. Especially if I get upset about something. I tried melatonin for a while but it gave me nightmares.

First, who told him he is neurotypical based on his sleep pattern? I have seen so many people who thought they were neurotypical and ended up being neurodivergent. I also know people who are neurodivergent who fall asleep once their head hits the pillow…. Zero extra thoughts, but they are still neurodivergent. There is no one-size-fits-all.

    • @ashleyguthrie572
      @ashleyguthrie572 21 день тому +4

He wasn't saying he is neurotypical based solely on his sleep patterns. He's saying he is neurotypical, and he falls asleep easily, which is more common for neurotypical individuals. As the doc stitching it says, a lot of, not all, but the majority of, neurodivergent individuals struggle with sleep problems. And the average neurotypical individual does not.

My partner, likely a neurotypical, falls asleep within 10 minutes of getting into bed.
I, a neurodivergent, will take many active hours of tossing and turning to fall asleep, AND I will wake up multiple times through the night, and have to play a similar game, but maybe for 10s of minutes at a time, to get back to sleep.

They start snoring hours before you are out. I take trazodone now. I think it's better if I go to sleep around 6-7... Otherwise I get a second wind, and I'm up till 11. I have to get up at 4 for work. So if I can't get to sleep, I start stressing out about not being able to get to sleep... Then I spook my sleep and might be up all night. Now I just take my trazadone and start saying the rosary.

I’m not diagnosed but have been told I have some neurodivergent symptoms, and sleeping with my partner is interesting lol. I lay with her so she’s comfortable enough to sleep, then I go smoke a blunt and watch my videos so I’m comfortable enough to get back in the bed and sleep

I’m on loads of medications that realistically should help me sleep more (Ativan, vistaril, gabapentin, auvelity, medical marijuana, and propanonol) and a lot of nights it just doesn’t work. I feel like my brain keeps running at full speed until it eventually tires itself out. I’m also more or less nocturnal which sucks bc the world was built on mornings people. It’s kind of impossible for me to do anything earlier in the day because I usually can’t sleep until 4:44am (at the earliest) and then I have to do my whole routine to get me physically and emotionally prepared to leave the house. People straight up hate the rigidity of the whole thing but there ain’t much I can really do about it

I have to have a separate bed most nights because I’ll get up and start working on a projects or listen to music and pace and day dream. I’ll have an extremely detailed and complex story lines going on in my head, the world around me disappears. The day dreaming is just me I think.

It takes me about 4 hours to fall asleep once I go to bed (wherever that may be) and Lord help me, if someone interrupts that 4 hours, then I feel I have to start all over. Then I'm lucky if I get 3 hours of sleep. I usually wake up on fire, especially if I dreamed (which I normally don't)
sleep and I are not good friends

Holy crap... Reallh? There's a reason I'm a "night" person?? Wow... then again, for about 20 years now, I haven't had to keep a "normal" sleep schedule - until two years ago. My cat decided I am required to be awake in the morning to feed her, and in the evening to again feed her. She also tries to convince me it's bedtime at night, and to wake up in general in the morning.
