Disclaimer: these are just some of the signs of a sick bird. Not all birds who display these are sick, and not all birds who are sick display these. Always, always consult your vet! And darn it, read real avian publications for more information and more things to look out for. If your bird is sick or injured please take it to an AVIAN VET
Yeah for me some of the signs my bird does but my bird has never been sick once but I actually never took my bird to a vet but I would know if he is sick by his behavior
Alen AxP I have a quick question that you may or may not have the answer to, my budgie is a female and has a crusty cere. I am aware that that is normal for a female budgie, but hers has formed into an abnormally large crusty knob. We have noticed on a few occasions that it flakes off but we are still not sure if it is normal or not. Maybe just female hormones? Thank you if you take the time to read or respond to this :)
Excellent! And in the end, there's a lot of experience, too. I have had birds since I was 7 and I can add the following: -if you see your bird is sick, but seems completely "fine" again after a few hours, take him to the vet, because your bird is covering his sickness (my 2nd bird died of it) -Birds always sit on one foot when they are relaxed and sleepy. If you catch your bird sleeping with both feed down, go to the vet. This has always (!) been the first indicator for my birds. -if you have larger birds like a cockatiel, a hanging tail with a fluffy back is also an indicator. And the last one: A sick bird does not preen itself. And my last advice is: If you think "is he sick? I dont know if I should go" GO! Plus: have an Infrared light at home.
My budgie died of leg paralysis and his legs stopped working and he is in heaven and was in really bad pain because he was wheezing and snot came out of his nose and started vomiting,he started not eating and we were really worried about him and he was flapping his wings constantly but he stopped and I checked his heart but suddenly it didn’t beat and I started crying because he was such a innocent sweet boy but sometimes they die for a reason when their sick😭💖
Ava & Amberシ if you just got them, they might be shy for a day or two :) Just put the seed and water in their cage and once they trust you they will eventually eat. After that try to get them to fly in your house or room or put them on your hand.If they get up to you shoulder, that’s a great sign of friendship
When my bird was sick, he would come to us to seek warmth instead of flying around like usual. We would hold him on our chest or hands to warm the poor little guy. It actually worked and he got better within 24h both times. The last time he got sick, he passed away cause he was old.
I don t know that now you need my help anymore but, i can tell you that your bird it s fine all you have to do it s to keep it in a hotter place and to speak and plqy more with it.
I knoww~ I liked that episode for the most part. The flashback was a bit dodgy (suspicious, even), but seeing Garnet interact with the Off Colors was precious.
My sweet little bird showed these signs and she turned out to have some sickness. My mom and I took her to the vet and she was sick! But thanks to you I knew the signs of a sickness and you basically SAVED HER LIFE! Thank you! Sky my bird and I are very thankful PS. We almost had to put her down but we didn’t need to!

The sass was real! XD But on a serious note, I don't blame him for being that way. There are so many pet owners who comment about their serious issues, expecting feedback and wasting precious time. He can't reply to every comment. No--get help while you still can--before it is too late. See a vet, research on avian blogs, anything.

Sick budgies will also linger at the bottom of their cages, unable to stand on their perches from lack of energy. This happened to me with several of my parakeets when I owned several many, many years ago.

Thank you for this!! My birds have been sneezing constantly over and over but i wasnt sure why. I have done a lot of research on budgies and my mom used to be a cockatiel owner and just last summer my mom got me 3 budgies. They are the first birds i've ever had and I love them so much, so i think i might check with an avian vet soon about it. Would have probably shrugged it off as dust or like i need to clean their cage soon. I dont want to get super worried but I keep telling myself that even if theres nothing wrong with them we'll call it a check-up lol.
@@kythefairy2029 no im sorry i havent!! its super expensive to go to an avian vet around where i live so i havent got the chance, but they havent shown any other symptoms so i think it might just be the dust levels? it is cute when the sneeze i have to admit but the amount that they are sneezing is sort of worrying to me- its probably nothing but if your budgies are sneezing not too often then they are probably fine! then again im not a vet so take my advice with a grain of salt haha
I BEG U TO MAKE A VIDEO ON TREATMENT OF BUDGIE RESPIRATORY INFECTION AND BUDGIE VENT PROBLEM...please, I TOUCH YOUR FEET.............MANY OF US HAVE NO VETS NEARBY !!
Rebecca I live in India I can't trust online service and pay through online banking that too in dollars not in Indian rupees... One of my bird just died 5 days ago And for heaven's sake that shouldn't happen with any other person in my locality... Thank you for your response but it is not useful : {
Hemalatha Vegi so sorry about your bird :-( the forum is free to use, and they have helped me when one of mine was sick a few weeks ago. Sorry I couldn't help..
My cockatiel was sick a few weeks ago and he's fine now- I think what fixed him was having an oil heater in his room at night. Don't know how or why that fixed it, maybe he had a cold from being literally cold?
I searched some things up because my baby was squeaking when she was breathing I thought that it could be something dangerous but then I realized she just took a bath. Then she proceeded to sneeze the water stuck in her nose onto my face.
I have a question for: “if a normally playful bird isn’t playful, it may be sick”. What if one of the budgies cage mates died and won’t be playful with the other one because it was only playful with the one that died? Edit: question 2: what if your bird has a scaly beak?
G r e e n B e a n ・ 97 years ago that seems to be normal, if another mate died it will probably need to get usef to healing and finidng another bird to play with
1:30 its Moulding Chill when they produce new feathers they does that and spikes are seen near the throat , they are really puffy and feathers are everywhere
Since last week, my green budgie is puffy all day and is in a bad mood all day. He won’t stop pecking his mate (a female budgie) and just sings in the mornings. He is already 8 years and I think it might be the age. Is there some way to make him happier or at least more comfortable?
Yui Funami Yeah. But watch out for any warning signs. See if the budgie seems tired and if she’s always in the same position or maybe if she’s in the corner of the cage all the time. My advice to you is to take her to the vet because it is worrying indeed. Mine was sometimes puffy sometimes happy. And it died 3 months after. You never know.
This is just wrong. Budgies are little balls of cuteness and joy and shouldn’t have to go through the hardship of sickness, or any hardship at all. But i still appreciated his video in case my little bundle of joy needs me
my bird is just keeping his head in his feathers and really isnt doing anything. But before this, he was accidentally let out of his cage and kept on crashing into stuff. help
my budgie was trying to do his usual screaming this morning at sunrise, but he wasn’t screaming and being silent and looking like he was and he started to fall down from his perch laying for like 20 seconds then got back up and kept sneezing until he got back on his perch. Now he doesn’t remember his friends and bullies them and they scream from him. 😢
I have gotten a lutino budgie/parakeet today from the pet store and he was the only one in the cage so I’m just making sure he’s not sick he was very scared and jumpy but while me my mom little sister and my brother went to the store he was just sitting there and didn’t whistle or anything and we got him got a betta fish , food and left I was bonding with him the entire car ride and when I went to put him in the bird cage with the cockatiel I picked him up(he hadn’t had his wings clipped) he sat there and got in calmly and I was surprised he didn’t fly away so thanks for making this video it helped a lot for making sure skittle wasn’t sick or anything bad like Diseases
Depending on the age, that's perfectly fine. XD Baby budgies often sleep on the floor, or cling to the sides of the cage. Even my adult budgie slept while clinging to a mirror.
My budgie sleeps like that only during the day, it’s usually when his lovebird bestie won’t share and out of cage perch with him so he just takes over the bottom half.
Well sometimes my bird likes to take a nap in the afternoon but she's all bout getting out of the cage in the mornings I sleep late so I guess that can explain alot since I sleep in the same room as my bird cuz I don't have any other rooms.
So today, one dove flew into our bathroom and displayed all these signs. I didn't know these and placed him in a box (with air) with food and water, I thought he was shocked and tired I came back some hours later and he had already passed :(
james jones i just got my first birb in march, he sneezes at least once a day, vet says it is the dirt road we live on :/ but he said he was in great health
Just to be on the safe side, make sure your bird cage isn't near any vents or draughty windows or strong breezes. Make sure no one uses air freshener in the room and you don't cook with Teflon when in the kitchen. I don't know if that's why he's sneezing but they're reasonable precautions for better budgie health.
neelubird absolutely, His cage is in the corner away from windows and doors and no fans( ceilings or floor) he does have a blankie we use when he naps, he maintains about 72° F in his room, we also have a infrared heat plate. No cleaners, fragrances or candles,( my mom is going through chemo so she is also hyper sensitive to these as well.) we live in the country and the dust out here is pretty high, it even makes my asthma act up from time to time. Vet said as long as he doesnt do it all the time and there is no discharge, it is probably the dust from the road. Also the vet memtioned that his moult can cause sneezing occasionally. Is that true?
I don't know much about moulting tbh but I'll guess the vet would know better about such matters. Sounds like you take good care of him but should still keep an eye on this. If he stays as he is, that suggests he's managing the symptoms but if it gets worse, it could mean he's no longer managing and may benefit from living in a less dusty location.
my budgie is molting so he sleeps a lot, this is normal right? EDIT: also his poop is a tealish color but, that is because he has a new calcium perch that is a teal color, that is okay right?
My birds used to be really playful but now they’re really lazy and only get up and move around to eat food. I’ve asked my mom to schedule an appointment at the vet but she simply will not. I don’t know what to do.
My blue lovebird puffs it's feather and often sleepy his poop is also yellow watery today does it means he is sick PLZZ tell me I am new owner of my birds plz reply
My budgie was restless the entire day.......he wanted to bury his head in any corner he could find in his cage......he passed away with a hiccup in my dad's hands yesterday .He''s been crying all day today
I just bought my budgie one day ago when we finish setting the cage up it was in one place literally it didnt move it was chilling in one place and it didnt eat or drink but today it ate but then i soon realised theres green droppings what does that mean. My budgie doesnt sing 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Rakin Chowdhury Budgies are usually very shy on the first few days that you have them and are very quiet. The green droppings are a bad sign though, unless you fed it something green.
One of my deceased birds, a male, had these symptoms, he passed on 30th Nov 2020, his mate, a female was upset. Lately I noticed she has some of these symptoms, so I decided to put some antibiotics in her water to try and make her feel better, it hasn't been her first Christmas yet ;-;.
Iz :D Same ;-; I almost tamed one, she sometimes came on my finger to eat millets. But suddendly she forgot everything and is scared af. I think it's my sisters friend's foult, this little *beep* slammed her hand on the cage 😡😡
Sheep the Sheep Don’t blame your sister, birds can tell the difference between two people. He probably won’t crawl up your finger because you weren’t practicing enough, I know because I skipped a day of training my bird and he would crawl up my finger anymore. Just keep doing what you were doing and he should remember how to step up again.
I’m worried about my bird because he still doesn’t trust me enough to get on my finger anyways I was holding my finger in front of him and his eyes started closing for no reason at all
Hey Ella, I’m a new bird owner and I’ve only had my birds for a week but they already trust me enough to stand on my fingers however, I have three birds only 2 of them stand on my finger, the third one is quite panicky and she lets me pet her but then 5 mins later she’ll freak out again. Anyways you should try to train them but if you have tried or if you have a panicky bird like me then you’ll probably need to make sure that you can touch them literally any time of the day and he won’t mind if he does you need to train him on that first, the panicky bird I was talking about well she lets me touch but not pick her up she’ll put her feet on my finger but she’ll jump right off as soon as I lift her up but I’m trying to get her over that so just keep trying!
Lily Render, I have been training him for six months now and he still does not like me touching him. But we are progressing since he stands on my finger sometimes and just today he ate a piece of millet off my finger but he is still pretty panicky.
My one cockatiel keeps on sneezing many times in a row. I’ve only had him for a few weeks, so I don’t really know if he’s always done this, but I just wanna make sure he’s okay...
HELP......one of my cats brought home a baby bird.....it didn’t have any visible injuries so I wanted to help it.....the little bird was eating fine so i didn’t think i had to worry ab anything.....but today in the las hour it has had 3 seizures (or what I think is a seizures) plz what am I supposed to do....there are no vets near by....
My last budgie died I think 5 years ago, he had something weird, he just started like tilting to one side, he walked in circles, he died a few days later, started puffing up and was very weak... There were no vets, where I live they mostly treat cats and dogs, no birds... I never knew what happened to him, he was completely ok that morning, it was very sudden, I just got to the conclusion he had like a brain stroke or something like that... Poor thing, I miss having them, I used to breed them, sadly our economic situation doesn't let me have more animals...

Hemalatha Vegi Without a vet and medicine,I don't know if that will just go away on its own. Try asking on the budgie forum online, they've helped me

I live in India
I can't trust online service and pay through online banking that too in dollars not in Indian rupees...
One of my bird just died 5 days ago
And for heaven's sake that shouldn't happen with any other person in my locality...
Thank you for your response but it is not useful : {
Hemalatha Vegi so sorry about your bird :-( the forum is free to use, and they have helped me when one of mine was sick a few weeks ago. Sorry I couldn't help..
Hemalatha Vegi If it was something the others could catch, I recommend cleaning/disinfecting the cage, all perches and toys
Rebecca what is the name of the online thing? I need it too my budgie isn’t acting normal, PLS REPLY IM BEGGING U
Thank you so much, my bird turned out to be sick, she displayed half of these.
I hope those birds the bed and lots of health and happiness and love
I have a question for: “if a normally playful bird isn’t playful, it may be sick”.
What if one of the budgies cage mates died and won’t be playful with the other one because it was only playful with the one that died?
Edit: question 2: what if your bird has a scaly beak?
G r e e n B e a n ・ 97 years ago that seems to be normal, if another mate died it will probably need to get usef to healing and finidng another bird to play with
My bird has 3 symptoms. :(
I usually see him singing and flying but today he’s just sitting and not moving
is he ok now
Well I usually stay up late and when I sometimes move I wake up my bird so yea, it sometimes wanna rest in the middle of the day, SORRY
my bird half closes his eyes when poops
Lol
Isn't that normal?
I mean be honest don't you too?...
1:30 its Moulding Chill when they produce new feathers they does that and spikes are seen near the throat , they are really puffy and feathers are everywhere
Alen do not scare me like that ever
Again! They are ok? Just to be sure
My dog tried eating a bird today. Luckily I saved him before my dog could consume it, sadly though it’s just sitting still and idk what to do
my dog loves my birds. thank goodness you saved him 👍😨
What happened? And the bird probs was in shock.. it's quite often deadly 😞
MY DOG BIT MY BIRD
NOW MY BIRD IS CRAWLING GRABBING WITH IT BEAK
IM FRAKING OUT AND IDK WHAT TO DO BESIDES I DONT HAVE MONEY FOR VET
@@Jen-wh6vh put your dog down
PLEASE don't let any small birds near dogs or cats. Even if they are tamed, it's still unsafe. Their hunting instincts can kick in any moment.
my bird has all these symptoms and i didn't believe it was sick...
i miss him so much...
Since last week, my green budgie is puffy all day and is in a bad mood all day. He won’t stop pecking his mate (a female budgie) and just sings in the mornings. He is already 8 years and I think it might be the age. Is there some way to make him happier or at least more comfortable?
Yui Funami Probably, yes. I had a 10 year old budgie which died of age and was puffy ALL the time and didn’t want to eat.
well it seems like he is better now. he's singing all time again so i think that's good :)
Get a bigger cage and provide more exercise every day. Provide fruit tree branches to chew. 8 is not that old for a budgie.
But before this, he was accidentally let out of his cage and kept on crashing into stuff. help
Omg same
My little love bird is sitting on my knee this min. With eyes closing she does this everytime i sit down she likes being near me,she is so loving
my budgie was trying to do his usual screaming this morning at sunrise, but he wasn’t screaming and being silent and looking like he was and he started to fall down from his perch laying for like 20 seconds then got back up and kept sneezing until he got back on his perch. Now he doesn’t remember his friends and bullies them and they scream from him. 😢
GUY: LET'S RECORD SICK "BUDGIES".
ME: SADLY! WHY DON'T YOU TAKE BIRDS TO DOCTOR... 😞
Ayan Sharif what the hell, you’re 100% 7 years old
I have gotten a lutino budgie/parakeet today from the pet store and he was the only one in the cage so I’m just making sure he’s not sick he was very scared and jumpy but while me my mom little sister and my brother went to the store he was just sitting there and didn’t whistle or anything and we got him got a betta fish , food and left I was bonding with him the entire car ride and when I went to put him in the bird cage with the cockatiel I picked him up(he hadn’t had his wings clipped) he sat there and got in calmly and I was surprised he didn’t fly away so thanks for making this video it helped a lot for making sure skittle wasn’t sick or anything bad like Diseases
Does this apply to sparrows too? My sparrow is healthy, but I want to learn something that might be helpful in the future just in case. 🐥
SAK- SOON I have a pet house sparrow and I don’t know
Sweet Tooth wow that's very helpful information
SAK- SOON where'd u get a Sparrow?
@@vanglhun8550 thats what im thinking
Searching up a guide for sparrows would be the best instead of using this video.
Thanks for tips Alen AXP. And my bird is Not even sick thanks for help.
is it normal that my parakeets are hanging upside down like bats?
Depending on the age, that's perfectly fine. XD Baby budgies often sleep on the floor, or cling to the sides of the cage. Even my adult budgie slept while clinging to a mirror.
go away please they think there Batman XD
My budgie sleeps like that only during the day, it’s usually when his lovebird bestie won’t share and out of cage perch with him so he just takes over the bottom half.
One of my birds keep sleeping and isn't eating, I'm super nervous.
I would recommend you to go to the vet and say to have a look. When a bird stops eating as he used to do and sleeps too much, that's not good.
That's sad. I'd recommend taking him/her out of the cage and inspecting him/her closer. It usually works for me! 😉 Good luck with him/her! 🙏🐦
If it’s it’s his or her first day home don’t worry
The music in the start in had scared the heck out of me
Well sometimes my bird likes to take a nap in the afternoon but she's all bout getting out of the cage in the mornings
I sleep late so I guess that can explain alot since I sleep in the same room as my bird cuz I don't have any other rooms.
Why would i watch vids like this lmao my bird is crazy af she so energetic and noisy
Same 🥴😂
Yeah, but she could still get sick
So today, one dove flew into our bathroom and displayed all these signs.
I didn't know these and placed him in a box (with air) with food and water, I thought he was shocked and tired
I came back some hours later and he had already passed :(
I don't know how but this channel's content comes on our tv
For some reason my bird sneeze a lot but he has been doing that all his life he's 6 now
james jones i just got my first birb in march, he sneezes at least once a day, vet says it is the dirt road we live on :/ but he said he was in great health
If he stays as he is, that suggests he's managing the symptoms but if it gets worse, it could mean he's no longer managing and may benefit from living in a less dusty location.
how's ur bird doing?
Found a budgie at my local park looks very young trying to warm her up as every time she just shivers if I put it down
BUDGIE???? LOCAL PARK????? WAS IT BLUE??? WAS IT MY OLD ONE THAT FLEW AWAY 2 MONTHS AGO????
my budgie is molting so he sleeps a lot, this is normal right?
EDIT: also his poop is a tealish color but, that is because he has a new calcium perch that is a teal color, that is okay right?
Lethargy/grumpiness are normal with molting.
(By the way, your budgie Biscuit is adorable.~)
Biscuit the Budgie that my bird >:(
remote 1 some birds look the same. One on my birds that died I called Gyarados looks like Cookie. (Except Gyarados was cuter)
My birds used to be really playful but now they’re really lazy and only get up and move around to eat food. I’ve asked my mom to schedule an appointment at the vet but she simply will not. I don’t know what to do.

My budgie died yesterday, and watching this makes me feel horrible. He was so obviously sick and I did nothing.
I just bought my budgie one day ago when we finish setting the cage up it was in one place literally it didnt move it was chilling in one place and it didnt eat or drink but today it ate but then i soon realised theres green droppings what does that mean. My budgie doesnt sing 😭😭😭😭😭😭

Budgies are usually very shy on the first few days that you have them and are very quiet. The green droppings are a bad sign though, unless you fed it something green.

My bird died, and I regret not watching this video, these were exactly the symptoms.
I cant tame my budgies
Iz :D Same ;-; I almost tamed one, she sometimes came on my finger to eat millets. But suddendly she forgot everything and is scared af. I think it's my sisters friend's foult, this little *beep* slammed her hand on the cage 😡😡
Do more research, do what you bird likes try your arm etc
Mine was easy to tame for me
Sheep the Sheep Don’t blame your sister, birds can tell the difference between two people.
He probably won’t crawl up your finger because you weren’t practicing enough, I know because I skipped a day of training my bird and he would crawl up my finger anymore.
Just keep doing what you were doing and he should remember how to step up again.
Little Tuskie Really? I tamed mine in about 2-3 weeks
Ella Webb, Well I have a bird just like that and I’m positive that she’ll always have some panic in her but she is getting better so!
Mines bites himself next to his wing but eating really well but always going to the corner…
My budgie has almost all of this simptoms. Going to see the vet tomorrow. Hope she'll be ok, I'm so worried.
She is sleeping more than she was sleeping before what to do bro plzz help me😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Take it to the vet dude
My one cockatiel keeps on sneezing many times in a row. I’ve only had him for a few weeks, so I don’t really know if he’s always done this, but I just wanna make sure he’s okay...
My male bird , keeps opening his mouth repeatedly , my family thinks he's just thirsty , but i just want to make sure
Am I the only one who read 999999 about budgies and still thinks that she/he doesnt know enough about budgies?

My last budgie died I think 5 years ago, he had something weird, he just started like tilting to one side, he walked in circles, he died a few days later, started puffing up and was very weak... There were no vets, where I live they mostly treat cats and dogs, no birds... I never knew what happened to him, he was completely ok that morning, it was very sudden, I just got to the conclusion he had like a brain stroke or something like that... Poor thing, I miss having them, I used to breed them, sadly our economic situation doesn't let me have more animals...
My bird is sick sadly :( he was my favorite and I tried so hard to tame him but we are taking him to the vet
very sad that here, there are no avian vets, so i have no idea what to do when my bird gets sick.
what if the bird looks like something is choking her ? I need an emergency ASAP
