This is such an informative video even though I’m not caring for a bird indoors. There are so many lovely snippets of Ricco in here! With outdoor birds, i worry about avian flu, conjunctivitis, etc. A couple of years ago a goldfinch perched on the edge of my feeder and didn’t move. His eyes looked sick. I called our wildlife center (of course, this was New Year’s Eve) and they asked me to try to get him in a box and bring him in. I got really close to him (which seemed like a sure sign of sickness), but when i was about to close my hand around him, he flew up to a branch of a tree just beyond my reach. I have wondered and worried about him ever since.
Thank you. Poor little goldfinch, definitely sounds like something was wrong with him. We’ve had a couple of them at our bird feeders as well that were not doing well. I’ve looked into the avian flu and it seems to affect more water fouls, but may affect some other birds. I worry about this as well 😞
I have two Indian ringneck parakeets, a male and a female.I've raised them since they're around 2 weeks old. They love being with our family members and recognizes us, our voices well. They are around 5 months old now. Both of them have always been very vocal as well but from the last 3 days, the female one mostly stays silent during the day hours(it's the starting of summer here).Suddenly she doesn't like to be touched as well. She's eating well, sleeping enough amount of time, even being active as usual but she only makes noises a few times now.I'm worried and the vets here don't work well. So, if someone knows about such things or can help me in this situation, please, please say something. My birdie seems all too fine, even makes little noises when I handfeed her but she's just mostly silent and tries to bite whenever I try to take her out of the cage. She doesn't even let me to check her body temperature.
@@Riccothegreenpiedirn I don't know much about their mating yet.Do 5 months old parakeets mate?! They are always together but I never saw them doing anything like that when I'm near them(we leave them alone for a few hours since they take naps in between and the male one tries to talk/ mimic different sounds when he thinks no-one's watching). They look content with each other but sometimes, get into fights(It's not serious I guess and lasts for only seconds). The only change I noticed is, she gets annoyed when the male jumps around a lot, making happy noises whenever I'm playing with them. Before they used to peck each other lovingly and now she's suddenly behaving like she wants some personal space.I just hope that she's fine and just wanting some 'me-time' and nothing else.
Thanks for the video. My bird got very sick at 6 months old. His dropping became watery and the colour would range from blood red to orange. He started sleeping a lot and would hide in dark areas. We were worried. We took him to the vet and came to know that his liver was affected. My rowdy parrot would only want to eat our food and detested any kind of vegetables whether raw or boiled. He would hunt our legs and attack them whenever he saw us holding a plate of food in our hands. During the initial months, my bird and i used to eat from my plate. So after the diagnosis, strict diet of only veggies and fruits for 3 weeks along with medecines. After the course, my bird sprung back to action and being his old hyper naughty self.
That must’ve been so scary but I’m glad you acted so quickly and took him to the vet. They really can go down hill so quickly so I always say pay attention to everything your bird does and notice anything different like poop or odd behaviours. @@Riccothegreenpiedirn thank you ❤️❤️it was indeed a scary time for us...my irn hated the syrup and tablet. The vet had given us few meds for morning and evening. Holding him and giving him medecine in the dropper was the biggest challenge. We would hold him and like a baby and force open his beak to let the drop in his mouth... even then he would twist and shake and let the medecine out..haha ..spending time with them helps to notice changes. Same when we had budgies... I would always spend 30 mins after waking up with them . I would clean their cage, change their food and water. Once while spending time with them I noticed my budgie had a running nose. Later gave him amoxillin for 3 days and he was back to action.
My bird's head is shaking a lot when we give him food inside his cage he cant lift his head up, he's behaving normally but shaking his head like parkinsons during lifting his head and not turning his face to one side. Face always tilted on the side. He's 13yo parakeet
My bird was once unable to see for some days all by its own, it would act like as if it were blind and sit at one position, move slow. Then it got healed all by itself and he was able to see, now nothing escapes his vision. But i am curious if this is common for birds. As i remember it happened when some 4-5 years ago. Is it common for alexandrine birds. Or in general any ring necked???
It’s difficult to say what could have caused this. Perhaps it was just a reaction from freight or lightning. Not sure exactly without knowing the full information, sorry.
Hey, I got a sun conure. He is in his weining phase and not doing very well. He is constantly bobbing his head slowly and flapping his wings quickly for a sec.He sometimes growls but screams like he usually does as well. He's been doing this for the past 3-4 days. None of the vets have proper answers. Why is he doing this
My lovebird (fischer) was born 1 year ago, he was showing symptoms like sleeping excessively, feathers always fluffed. But on the other hand, he is always eating and drinking perfectly fine, sometimes moving around the cage and chirping. And i couldn't tell if he is ill or not
How does his droppings look? Is he molting by any chance, if so molting could be the cause of it. If not I’d definitely keep him somewhere warm so he can conserve energy if he is not feeling well and keep a close eye on him.
Thank you very much for this video, very informative 😊 I have a ringneck who's is 2 months old. This morning he seemed to be breathing heavily with a slight wheezing noise, he ate breakfast OK but since the afternoon has not been eating and is sleeping a lot. We have had 2 very hot days and as I have been away, his routine has been all over the place for the last 2 days too. This evening he is not interested if food at all and the wheezing seems to have stopped. I'm hoping he was just tired today and has been catching up on sleep. Would you agree? I intend on taking him to the vet if symptoms don't appear any better in a couple days.
I would recommend taking him to the vets ASAP if he’s having difficulty breathing. Birds hide symptoms really well and he’s already not eating or drinking he will not get better on his own. He may have a viral infection or many other things, if it were my bird I’d get him help. Hope he will be ok 🙏❤️
@@Riccothegreenpiedirn Thank you very much for taking your time to respond, really appreciate it. I will be taking him to the vets today if possible. 💙

Starting 24hrs ago my bird started making quiet noises that sounded like a small cheep or even no noise at all when I went to feed him which is like the opposite of normal I literally always say he loves to scream when he eats. Lmao has only been 14 hrs but also he's overly puffed up.
Is he eating and drinking normally, also how does his poop look? Puffed up could mean many things such as being cold to something as serious as being sick. If you are really concerned and he is puffed up for most of the entire day, I would definitely recommend calling up a vet and ask for advice if you should bring him in.
@Riccothegreenpiedirn he doesn't drink water unless he's bathing he's only 6-8 weeks any advice for that BTW I add a lot of water to his baby food. Also his voice is horse but it's picking up naybe he was tired lmao lastly he's being kinda clingy like landing on me and being silent which is unusual. Like he's not asking for food but he's eating....
@Riccothegreenpiedirn I just took him to some jerk who wouldn't answer my calls since yesterday and when I walked in he said it was 200 bucks for an emergency visit cause even tho ot would normally be inital check up of 60 dollars I didn't make an appointment when u asked to make one he said well it can't be for today. Basically he's gonna let the bird die 140 lmao. Also I saw on his desk he had like 4 hours open at different times :( no wonder the only bird review was 1 star. Lmao
Hii, please help if you know anything about this... My indian ringneck is 6 years old and today he's been feeling a bit sick. This happens sometimes but I provide him with some liquid diet that helps him regain energy. Though he's refusing to take anything today... And he's been bobbing his head for some reason. He's not puffed up and won't sit comfortably, only attentively. But he hasn't eaten anything and is weak... He keeps stumbling over too. I've tried to feed him but it's not working.. He isn't even sleeping, only sitting with half closed eyes. I'm worried..
Oh no that’s not a good sign at all. Definitely something is wrong. The only way to really know what is going on is to take him to a vet as soon as possible. Can you at least phone a vet and explain the symptoms, they may be able to advise you what to do in the meantime. If you are on Facebook you can also go on some parrot first aid groups. It is free but you will need to be accepted into the group. It’s best if you can provide them with a video. If you are on Instagram, you can DM as well, I’ll try to help you as best as possible. For now I’d palace him in a small cage if you have one with the perches very low or remove them all together if he doesn’t have balance. He needs to be kept warm and get sleep, but he doesn’t sound like he is well at all and if he doesn’t get help he most likely won’t make it .
@@Riccothegreenpiedirn he didn't...💔 Took him to vet and he was starting to get better. As soon as I brought him back home and told him we're home..he flapped his wings weakly and then passed away in my hands... I hope he reached up the clouds safely..

Hello thnk u so much for this informative video. ❤ My indian ringneck feet is turing yellow what should i do ☹️ He constantly regurgitate. When i gve some food he starts regurgitation / throwing up.
Is he just regurgitating food? Does he act and normal otherwise? Any other symptoms that don’t seem normal. Also how old is your bird and how long has this been going on?
@@Riccothegreenpiedirn He's 12 now, and this issue started two years ago. I took him to a vet, and they said it's age-related, but there's been no change. He constantly regurgitates when I give him food. Now, his feet are turning yellow.
@@Amigos-z8hI’m not sure what his diet is, but the colour change of his feet could indicate a health issue related to lack of something in his diet. Difficult to say. As for the regurgitation, if it’s constantly I’d be concerned.
I am worried about my parrot. It was active last night but this morning, I found it dull and sleeping. It is very hot here. My parrot is three months old and I had to feed it forcefully with a syringe this morning."
If it’s really hot you need to cool him down. Is he showing the symptoms as in this video as being to hot? If so definitely spray him with cool water and try to keep him cool.
Is he also showing other symptoms, like lethargic. Is he eating and drinking? By any chance is he molting? You could always give the vets a call and let them know your concerns to be safe.
While watching my female IRN climbing the walls of its cage I feel like it has become week .. It doesn't eat properly these days and is showing hormonal behaviours too .. Also it's biting the walls of its cage and removing the paint of its cage , she wasn't showing these behaviours before ..(isn't it harmful ? What if the paint gets inside its tummy) .. We let her come out of the cage for an hour or two in a day .. Also , she doesn't interact with anyone else other than my father and raises its head and does clucking sounds when my father's near him .. Kindly say what must I do at this point ?
It can be dangerous if she is chewing on the cage depending on the type of cage. Sounds like she may be bored, does she have toys to play with when inside the cage? Hello, Do you have any good tips for taming my pet bird,I just got him and its almost been 3 weeks he is with us. But he is afraid of our hands if i try to make him step up on my hand he will bite.I tried to get him to step up on a stick but he will simply pull the stick to himself and resist. A few days ago he started to get hormonal and started to be Cage territorial,Screaming,Biting alot etc and i got scared (I am a new bird owner) thinking i was doing something wrong since he also started biting me which he didn't used to do. His diet is okay consisting with fruits and veggies and sleep is fine. And i cant take him out of the cage because he is fully flighted and will fly all over the place. Before him going through the bluffing stage he use to eat from our hand outside the cage and i could even give him food inside the cage BUT he wouldnt dare to step up on my hand and will give me signs that he will try to bite, outside the cage i could sometimes even touch his feet and his chest a little bit. So it would be nice of you to tell me some taming tips and going through this buffling stage.

So sorry to hear. Could be caused from many things. I’d definitely bring him to a vet.
Hello Ricco & Ricco's mummy... valuable info as always 💕🐦🦜💕😎😘

Why is he doing this
Sounds like a baby gesture they do when wanting food, but it’s difficult to say without seeing a video.
omg thank u so much my bird was sick and o had no idea thank u!,!
Hope your bird is okay.

So sorry I just saw this now. Could be from many things as poisoning. I’d definitely get him checked out. Hope he’s okay
Thank you for the info! Very appreciated
Thank you very much for this video, very informative 😊
I have a ringneck who's is 2 months old.

Hello! So, i was wondering if my bird is alright. So, he has lost weight (looks like it) and today he was opening his mouth and closing it nonstop. I also noticed yesterday his poo was black and white as soon as he pooped. It changed now and its like a dark ish normal green. Thats honestly all i have about it. Is it nothing serious?? or... since i really really love my bird and i dont want him to be or die in pain, it would break my heart. let me know if its anything serious or not ❤❤❤❤ thank youuu!!!❤❤❤

My indian ringneck feet is turing yellow what should i do ☹️
He constantly regurgitate.

Can you provide her with natural safe toys to chew on like wood or other safe toys and foraging toys for food. Seems like she has picked your father as her chosen one. When she is displaying this behaviour just have him not pet her so she eventually stops.
@@Riccothegreenpiedirn Nah, her cage just has her food trays and nothing else .. Can you please make or suggest a video on toys for IRN which I can afford to make of my own ? (Foraging toys or toys to play with )
