another great post. This game shows why Bird was the best player ever in the NBA. Such creative passing--between Joe Barry Carrol's legs!! He could literally toy with the competition. The first player ever in the NBA to shoot better than 90% from the freethrow line and better than 50% from the field for an entire season, and he did it for 2 seasons in a row.
The smartest basketball player ever. He made the game looked so easy, moved so well. I advice all kids who's into basketball to watch his games and learn from it.
Bird could do anything he wanted on the court, if the team needed 40, he'd do that, if the team needed boards, he'd give them 15, if they needed passing, he'd give them 15 assists - hell, he'd give them all those stats in one night. He could do it all, but always did within the complex of the team - he got everyone involved.
I honestly think his numbers would stay the same no matter what team he's in. His type of game would make the players around him better. He could care less about always scoring. All he wanted was to win. Not once was he on a bad team.
The thing that impresses me the most in this video is Bill Walton's outlet passes. Textbook technique. You can tell that he's planning his outlet pass before he even has his hands on the rebound. Nobody does that any more. Walton seamlessly starts what was probably the most potent fast break in b-ball. The guy operating the 24 second clock barely has time to reset it before the Celtics score.
Over the month or so that McHale went down - Feb 1986 I think it was - Bird averaged 27.0/12.3/7.5 so just imagine the numbers he would've put up on crap teams where he just got the ball all the time.
Wow, another terriffic perfromance. He puts up this amazing stats and everything within the flow of the game. I like Lebron a lot, but he seems to have to control the ball all game long when he puts similar numbers. Well compared to Bird, most superstars look like ballhogs when taking over games.
0:34 - Watch Parish sprint up court. He has the ball, he knows Bird will get it to him. You think Dave Corzine was sprinting up court when Michael Jordan got the ball? Nu Uh.
The 86 Celtics were the BEST team ever assembled in the NBA. And if Len Bias had not died the 87 team may have been better. The 80s was the most competitive era in NBA history. There were many good teams yet it was dominated by the Celtics & Lakers. The 90s were good because of Jordan, But NONE of those Bulls teams could have beaten the 86 Celtics or 87 Lakers. Jordan would have gotten his but the rest of the Bulls could not have stopped Parish, McHale & Bird. BY FAR the best passing team were the 86 Celtics, Bird is the best small forward to ever lace em up! The NBA today sucks. The refs call a foul on just about every play. Cant watch such a lame ass league.
@@nickbigmann5228 I've wondered what Joe Barry Carroll's career would have been like if he had played with Larry Bird. Robert Parish was pretty much thought of the same way as JBC when he played for the Warriors. Carroll was talented but didn't play up to his potential. Would that have changed in Boston? Of course Boston would not have gotten Kevin McHale either.
@zyxwut321 I smell an apologist. But anyways I think Woolridge, Oakley, Banks and Sellers were all capable of finishing on the break. None of them ran in transition. Jordan didn't push it up for them. Just watch the old vids and you'll see that.
And after that highlight worthy play, no chest beating, no "shoulder rolls", no arms out pointing to self "me me me", no "check out my footwear" dance. And even from JBC, no flopping, no remonstration to cover for his possible embarrassment.
Larry Bird is the best passer of all time. And no question.
The best shooting and passing big forward that ever lived.

And those weren’t even his MVP seasons?!!!?
Imagine that!

You HAVE to earn a nickname like Legend, and earn it he certainly did! The most entertaining athlete in my lifetime
Absolutely my hero in the court.

trha2222 and what Hall of Fame are you In sir? I did like your sarcastic post though, LOL
+ZZBlue Comet 😂😂
@@zzremington many have no clue how great Larry legend was

that pass thru the legs was so crazy!
LOL @ 3:18. Easily the best SF ever (yes, easily), and my second favorite player ever. A true legend. Just too good.
thank god for youtube

Bird and Walton were awesome on the floor together
By that time that there was talk around the league that Bird could be the best ever. Bob Cousy and others didn`t had any doubt about it.
That’s not true. Bob Cousy played with all time greats. He was always hesitant and saying Bird was the best ever.
Next level passing and game IQ, nobody makes passes like this anymore
0:58 Larry with a FLOATER. he was doing it before anyone!
Love listening Gil Santos and Bob.
have not watched basket ball since Larry retired
no boston garden, no j most, no larry
NO INTREST
1:12 i have never seen a more gangster sequence in an nba game. he casually just busts the 3
Bird always lit it up more scoring wise on the west coast since the east teams only went there once. Give em a show
the best!
The warrior fans had to watch this and just to rub this Parish and Mchale trade into the already painful
wound.

Hahaha on 3:15 between the legs pass.
Wow, a Joe Barely Cares sighting. That pass right between his legs, lol. Not quite the Jack Sikma special, but still funny to watch
Imagine Jordan making Kite score.
Nah that's impossible

"Hey bird"
*BANG*
LB was the man amongst the boys.😂
The guy after the pass between his legs had the look of I don’t belong out here.

Thank you for posting this! Do you have videos of any of the other games from this West Coast swing the Celtics made in Feb. 86?
I got it, it was Feb. 19, 1986.

A famous HL from the “Birds Passing Skills” videos.
Right betwix that mother scratchers legs 🤣

That $&@? is ridiculous 🤣😂
Only Bird
damn Purvis Short getting abused
I want to see that too!
319 holy shit
What was the date of this game?
@FavreianVengeance michael was dunking it the same time parish was laying up
@FavreianVengeance:
I think most teams would prefer MJ finishing the break to Dave Corzine.

What Golden state are now with KD is what the celtics would have been with len bias
Please stfu. The league now is good. Y’all are just nostalgic and they called more fouls back then so once again please stfu
200 pass worth the price of ticket that night niggggaaaaaaaaaaaa
Carroll got clowned by the bird.
As a longtime Warrior fan we coined JB Carroll as " Joe Barely Cares". JB always look so bored and tired on the court.

@3:18 a pass between the legs? Not even a bounce pass an actual pass. Who does that? Larry Bird.
hahaha between the legs of Draymond..Steph and Klay didn't play.
Are you trying to be funny? You do know that this game was played in 1986.
