- 464N 0821 Morris Cowley M.A.T. to Southampton Eastern Docks. Interesting scenario at Southampton Eastern Docks Railway Gate. BMW Mini Cars being transported into Southampton docks for the Hoegh Osaka large car carrier which less than a year later sunk!
Good to see that crossing still in use. I was local to the area at one time and saw Clan Line returning from the docks about 15 years ago.
instaBlaster.
Wow 24 years ago lol
What a change from 50 years before. I worked for BBC South at South Western House in the early 60s. Our tv studio was at the front of the building with rudimentary sound proofing and at some point during the live evening news magazine programme, possibly 6.25pm those in the studio could plainly hear the sound of a large handbell being rung and a diesel shunter pulling some rolling stock over the crossing. Not sure if the viewers ar home could hear this, though.
If you look on Google maps at the satelite image of the town just north of Southampton called Swaythling you can see the same type of train passing through the station. It's massive.
i just said to myself that i shouldv been counting!!!! lol
..
@@collinhunter9792 I made it 40 trucks (8 sets of 5).
Swaythling isn't a town north of Southampton. Swaythling is a district area of Southampton. It's part of Southampton. Swaythling road names all have 'City of Southampton' written underneath the road names. #Southampton UK resident here from 1985-present 👍👍👍
Wow interesting articulated autorack railcars! Not a lot of those in the States...
It’s England 🏴
They run in sets of 5
Fascinating. The join in the track just beyond the signal looks decidedly ropey! Ooh I see you were filming it there lol
8:21 Still a warning sound and a red light. Who is crossing the railway crossing? MotoBiker and BMW driver. Someone surprised? anyone?
btw. nice video.
And also the cameraman cross railway crossing.
Jerome O'Mara fuck you arse hole
@@delta.australia "language" as if your their parents, sorry this is the internet where people can do whatever unfortunate stuff in there and you probably to young to be in here
Wow, had quite a few on for our Railways, but really good to have a mixed Transport system. Reminds me of Bristol years ago, tracks everywhere in town.
And STILL drivers proceed even though the crossing lights are not clear! Unbelievable. I hope they got ticketed!
Annoyingly, they don't.
Nope the cops dont do anythin
It's a VW Golf driver what do you expect 😂
At least it's not a bmw because then it wouldn't matter
Went over this crossing a thousand times as lad. Only saw a train on it once.
6:20 The tracks are rattling...
Beautiful siding!
brilliant I was born and grew up just this spot
You were born on a railway crossing?
HAHA I was thinking the exact same thing XD
Margaret Potter So you were born on the tracks and lived next to them?
They should use rail all the time for everything and bring back old lines
Yes. It would be more economical and eco friendly in some situations.
With proper investment (yes, sometimes you have to spend money to get good things) rail is a relatively cheap, eco-friendly, profitable business opportunity, but only when run properly. Look at the Shinkansen in Japan as a perfect example.
@@Kelastris Indeed.
For a almost closed line, that’s a long train
It's freight going to the docks, it's not a closed line.
Looks like they could do with sorting that track joint out you focused on while the train was passing over it. Perhaps if it got any worse it could cause a derailment?
UKWMO There’s another level crossing past the gates which goes over the dock road. Back when I worked there the track was really wavy and I wondered how on Earth the train stayed on it!
Hold it, my friend.
Highly unlikely at 5mph
@@Synthematix You could not be more wrong my friend. I attended a derailment at this very location, about three years ago as a member of the Breakdown and Recovery team. The leading coach behind the Loco came derailed, both bogies,it was a Saturday afternoon,if my memory serves me correct. The track along there,we all thought needed some TLC. It was also a rail tour. I have seen vehicles derailed at walking pace, for a variety of reasons.
Just about to say the same thing, they will probably wait until there is a derailment before they do anything, then it will cost them twice as much what with the delay in getting the cars to port.
Sounds windy down there , not seen those car carriers before , used to be open deck ones
Showing HGVs how bulk haulage is done properly and safely. Superb.
I can't believe I only just found this, nice one
Amazing Video, Thanks!
Have you ever seen the footage of the trains travelling to dublin port. The track just goes up the road like a tram. Very bizarre looking
Interesting video.
Wow. That must be one helluva powerful engine!
That was the longest freight in England I have seen
I grew up near a line that had a lot of freight on, generally the coal trains. That was in 1970's when coal was a big industry. The last one went through about midnight. Still love the sound of trains! Bdm-bdm, bdm-bdm... ❤️
I wonder what that guy does for work the rest of the day !!
Dunno, but I would love his job. It probably has an employer-funded pension and union representation. I'm sure he wears out a couple of sofas every year....
That track looks like it takes quite a bit of pounding.
18 months after this was taken, the track parted and a train was derailed.
Blimey!
They've now relayed the track on the crossing.

Like my mrs
I used to work down at SGT at Dock Gate 4, back when this train carried Jags. If I was a bit late leaving work I had to wait ages for this bloody train to cross the dock road!
Very much like the Preston Docks Railway that also runs across a busy main road
Steam in the North West got a great photo of the train crossing there
so theives cant see that theres millions pounds worth of cars inside
It would have been nice to see the wall leftofthe gates to have restored with the Canadian Pacific spans the world logo it was a flash back to the great liners era, it would ha ve made a nice piece of nostalgia nostalgia
Nice Video
That for a guess is the jaguar transporter if I remember rightly, used to see it when we were tipping on the quay
Its the Mini transporter from BMW at Cowley.
MrKnowwun It used to contain Jags when I worked at Dock gate 4, which was over 10 years ago now.
there are 2 trains, both use WIA wagons, the Jag`s now run over night and the Mini`s run lunch time
Something different. Nice.
Jesus how many carriages was that engine pulling ?
try and guess how many minis were inside them.
Never ending train
I know this videos was posted 2 years ago but can you remember what time of day did this train with Mini coopers going overseas arrive in southampton when you were filming it crossing the level crossing?
It was about 13:00. The time varies according to the day of the week.
***** No, Its very difficult to dispose of 500 bmw minis without getting caught
MrKnowwun haha
This is lovliest comment section I have ever readen! :)
MrKnowwun Well? There was this movie once where 3 were used as getaway vehicles. 😉
Nice video - liked! Impressive numbers as well.
Where does this spur join the mainline?
Buddy I have a question how many coaches did that cargo train have?
does anyone know the name of rollingstock used to transport these cars ?
WIA 5-unit covered car-carriers
@@MrKnowwun Thank you very much for the information :)
Call me crazy, but I think I saw that locomotive here in the US.
Nightmare Fredbear wow vur arnt your trains like 1 mile long?
Nightmare Fredbear The Class 66s are US built imports, and the EWS livery was based on that of the Wisconsin Central Railroad.
So that's why I saw thoes in america (I have a video on it).
Was it carrying mexicans ? hahaha
Nightmare if u think u r bigger than my ex wife ur wrong she is faster than trillion sun's
The Hoegh Osaka didn't sink. She developed a list, and was intentionally grounded on a sandbank in the Solent.
Ok, bits inside that shouldn't, got very wet.
How many carriages does that thing have
At least 30-40 right
Wow! How does a train that long get into the shunting bay?
The train gets split in to 3 portions and places for unloading in the docks, there needs to be a concrete pad at one end of each section for the unloading ramps to stand on.
Ok, so how do you get the cars in and out of the train? Are there boards (ramps) which fold down at the end of each rake to make one long 'road' along which you can drive the cars out? Are they pulled out? Or do you uncouple the rakes? Seems like a lot of work to manoeuvre them in and out. Wonder if there's a video of that part...?
The outer shells lift up hydraulically, cars are double racked, you can split the train in two, and you drive em off at a ramp. They are called "Auto loaders". www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5050663
looks like that track needs replacing and more ballast packed underneath. it does look like its bending a fair bit, not to mention the other issue of idiots passing through red lights at level crossings.
How many railcars were on that train ? I lost count somewhere or other.
Hi Jeff, different, did not count must have been quite a few..Dave
they come in articulated sets of 5 sharing bogies. There were 10 sets of 5, so 50 in all. These are double stacked car carriers like a car transporter on the road.
Nice.. cheers... Dave
Hi Jeff , very true , Off to Quainton Rd Railway this morning...Dave
Interestingly different. Liked. Mike
That was the longest freight train ever🇬🇧
How often is this crossing used?
6 times a day
@@MrKnowwun Wow fantastic!
That was a surprise - Great
Carrying minis? Train should be nickname The Italian job 2003
There is 5 sections to a complete car. How are they loaded?
The wagon have electric powered roofs (all the blue bit), they have 2 decks inside and movable ramps are added at the docks to unload the mini`s, if I remember right with 10 wagons that`s 360 mini`s
Nice seeing the close-ups! Thank you. What turned on the level crossing signals? Interesting seeing the white signalamp illuminate to indicate the level crossing signals were operating. Took long enough for the train to begin moving. Wastes time.
there must be a plunger some where to operate the crossong
Derailment alley with it's nice and neighborhood friendly warning sounds... Well nothing a few drops of super glue and some spray foam can't fix...right?!
WOW!
they used to run this train early in the morning years ago & would go into the docks about 6am I've been late for a couple of times sitting there waiting for bloody thing to lumber its way across the road
I know one crossing like this but the train there is very slow because driver has many things to do.
But its in hungary
Fascinating that all this Waggons are not tagged with graffiti. In Germany there is barely no Cargo train without graffiti,
You should the United States...
DorkRail ET44AC What? :)
How long, lol.
What a strange and irritating alarm. I would be crazy if i live there. How can you even hear this siren in your car, with your engine on and probably the radio? But if i would live there in my house i become really crazy.
It can be quite loud.
Simply Different i would guess there is only a train going over these tracks one a day or so. The sirens wouldn't go off that much.
Standard alarm over the whole of the UK rail system. You can hear 2 klaxons out of sync. The accompanying red lights also mean stop.
Dubbeh D - try six trains a day
I can certainly guarantee that the train was there before the tenant rented a flat near there, If you live near a noisy railway line you should have spent more time studying and less time on youtube
My that is a lot of wagons.
As the sinking of the MSC Napoli highlighted, do NOT wear your survival suit in a fully enclosed lifeboat. :D
Like how it’s a iMovie
I Recorded a class 66 freight train in france.
Interessting railcars
Personally I think Barriers should be installed here. Or there were people monitoring it.
You need a deadcat for your microphone....
you can't get a dead cat for an on board video cam mic. If you check my other vids tho you will see (hear) that when I use an external mic, its has a deadcat
You can get stick on ones. I have one on my camera .
whatever

Daniel Ramp it come from Europe
English, German, Italian(?) and French
Giant Gates should come across the road to stop people being take out by a massive Goods train or as in russia Security Gates rising out of the road ,Great video of the Canute Level Crossing 🛑
Out through the eastern gate
This is my favourite level crossing in the uk thats stilo open
The Blue Sausage train!
Good vid but show us the lights
sorry late for work
I take it from the lack of graffiti on the wagons that ebola has wiped out the city.
vec4 to keep yourself safe
Fish fingers for tea tonight I think
I don't like those coaches. There's no windows, how do people see where they're going?
Its the new Covid proof social distancing coaches
Wow did anyone count those wagons?
about 50
iiIsaacii_ 10 wagons (each wagon is a multi element vehicle made up of 5 elements) train length is 108 SLU longest in the U.K.
About 28 minis to a wagon.. I know I work on this train every night
You would think they'd automate the gates
A British Rail Class 66
Now that’s what I call a freakin hotel! It’s beautiful 😍! And those gates are funny because they aren’t going to stop a fully loaded freight train 🚂 going at full pelt are they. I guess they’re there to keep people out rather than the trains 🚆 in? It’s extraordinary how stupid and selfish people are that they’re still crossing the tracks when the siren 🚨 is sounding . It’s much more important to save a few seconds risking your life than wait a minute or so while this enormous Engine passes. After all a thing like this isn’t going to make a nice bloody mess out of you when you get crunched and squashed underneath its wheels! What a bunch of impatient idiots
You can see it in the background of the dockside scenes in "Titanic". The quay she left from is a couple of hundred yards away to the right, looking after the train.
Why would people dislike this? Why would people even watch this?
Ok, I watched it, but why would . . .
Because its an ex Ews 66148 love em, could watch them all day!
@@RedShedNick There's a Cowley village near Exeter.
plastic water botle near track
I did wonder if the gate operator looked where he was going when he crossed the road...
That train driver had a big one !
I must have missed that bit !
💞Wow🤍💛💛💛🤍💛💛💛
You'd think. Just build a fucking bridge.
whats so scary about ungated level crossing anyway??
Don't run The Risk ... 😕
I hate these types of level crossings
Car transporters...
This looks ever so dangerous. I would have preferred you just pick a spot and film rather than keep moving about, and focusing on the rails. The interest for me is in seeing the whole view including bystanders.
!!!!!!!!!!!
Too many cars in London
videowatcher well it's a capital city what do you expect
This is Southampton...
It's Southampton, not London...
Isn't it obvious that it's not London?
Too many bloody people deport 2 million and be abit of space to move
These contain Rockets.... not cars.
Minis yes I work on this train at purfleet docks
We have all this health and safety . But then common sense, people don’t have it anymore , just ignorance , I’m to busy get a life some of you people .
Lol imovie
Waste of time having sound on.
Misuse
Never ending train
