    Despite being outclassed in the striking department, Sexy Yama has great foot work and great strikes/kicks. He also keeps his head low in his stance. I was really impressed by how he was able to absorb the initial barrage of punches and kicks and how he even managed to keep his hands up and use his head to duck some of those punches.

    Feel bad for Melvin, he had no chance when the fight went to grappling. I think Melvin had a realy good chance had he stuck to striking since he is much faster. Trying to throw Akiyama was a BIG mistake. Akiyama was once ranked number one in the world in Judo and a champion in Japan. Melvin tried to throw him and got countered with a text book judo oshi. Overall Akiyama played this fight best to his advantage. Props to both.

      That's real sad that Japanese are so racist they still see him as a Korean even though he is a 4th generation Japanese.
      That's just like Blacks and Mexicans here in the United States referring them to African or Mexican.
      If you think about it, Japan is comprised of many different countries and tribes put together by a conquerors before out time. People are people, leave the racial discrimination out.
      Akiyama has always represented Japan and he always will.

    • @delilah9876
      @delilah9876 9 років тому +7

      +Nice Guy It is sad, but then he considers himself Korean and he's really proud of it. He only became a Japanese national in 2001, for the sake of his career and his parents are still Korean nationals.
      And Sunghoon hasn’t always represented Japan. Until 2001, he represented Korea. He even won the gold medal at the 2001 Asian Championships for South Korea.

      +Spec0pleader If you see closely in 1:48 there is a quick move from Yoshi. when he was about to be slammed, the centre of gravity of manhoeff is on his left shoulder as his right legs is off the mat.Thus, his left leg doest have a lot of weight now. Then,as he is about to finish it, Yoshi centre of gravity is in his back so he is falling but he kicks that left leg of manhoeff very fast with his left leg, which ends up both being actually in air. But Yoshi is swinging his right leg already, which creates a circle path for yoshi whole body, and ends up top.
      That is what i saw anyway hehe

    1:48. Akiyama is probably one of the scariest takedown artists in MMA. He can set up and complete a takedown before touching the ground.

      @34672rr 9 років тому

      he had to cheat against saku though.

    • @Godzilla52
      @Godzilla52 9 років тому +10

      wiremessiah He probably would have won if it wasn't for the greasing accusation though. If you watch the fight (greasing or not) he still outperformed saku during the fight.The ref who inspected him after Saku's complaint even said that he didn't see any signs of greasing. It was only under board review when the reported video of Akiyama applying lotion before the fight was mentioned. All and all I'm not sure though, just because there was alot of corruption allegations behind the scene's in Japanese MMA at the time. One of the theories floating around was because of how well loved Sakuraba was in the Japanese MMA scene at the time, it would have looked bad if he lost the fight. I'm not sure if that's true, but it certainly makes the reality more elusive either way.

    • @34672rr
      @34672rr 9 років тому

      Godzilla52
      Have you ever seen Akiyama fight without a gi? Then he takes it off right before the fight, against the best known shoot wrestler? Give me a break. You can't hit saku that many times before he grabs your leg, and most of those punches were not doing anything, he had to hit him many times to stun him, and saku can take a punch. He was screaming to the refs that he was way too slippery.
      Akiyama even admitted he put lotion on and apologized, then refused to fight him again.

    • @Godzilla52
      @Godzilla52 9 років тому +8

      wiremessiah Akiyama didn't refuse. He wanted to set another one up but was called away to the UFC and Wand was somebody that Akiyama wanted to fight more than anyone else on the planet. Plus he did admit to using lotion, but the video the board mentioned of him apparently using an excessive amount of lotion was never released publicly or shown on the internet, the only evidence of its existence was mentioned by the board without actually releasing that information to the public. The logic of Akiyama cheating still makes no sense. Akiyama decimated Manhoef in this fight and Sakuraba a few years later barely lasted a minute against the guy. Akiyama's Judo would be enough of a match for Sakuraba's shoot wrestling. Plus Akiyama never kicked Sakuraba in the balls like Saku did to him (even if it was an accident). Akiyama even made a point in his next MMA fight in Japan to wear a Gi against Shibata; and in his comeback fight before that, he KO'd Dennis Kang in a striking match without resorting to grappling at all just to make a point out of it.

    • @34672rr
      @34672rr 9 років тому

      Godzilla52"called away"? Give me a break. He pussed out. The thing is, if akiyama thought he could beat Sakuraba, then why did he have to cheat?
      You have to admit him taking off the gi at the last moment was highly suspicious.
      Sakuraba never lost a fight before his last four losses to a smaller guy except Schembri, but that was a fluke.
      Akiyama was nothing compared to Sakuraba, he knew that and had to cheat to beat him. If his judo was so good, he should have left his gi on. Why else would he take it off?

      True but the Japanese are originally from Korea anyway. That is where they have been traced back to. They aren't identically the same genetically as a modern Korean but they are very close. Much like a the ancient white tribes in Europe. There were only slight differences between them and some tribes split.

    ***** the japanese emperor will always be japanese the family line has bred with japanese for thousands of years. whereas akiyama's family who hasn't mixed with the japanese is gonna retain his korean identity. by your way of thinking even the africans who have lived in france should be considered ethnicallly french. and akiyama seems to have only attained his japanese citizenship just ten years ago
