I think they are different from Luminance series, which is water proof. (I just bought a Luminance set recently, I will try and test them soon : )

How do they compare to the normal range of watercolour pencils by Caran D’ache?

Sorry I haven't tried their normal range of water color.
What I do like this one is that they are bicolor, easy to carried :)
