  • This video goes into excruciating detail (haha!) on how to line a slab mold. The video was getting long, so we skipped over the part where you measure out your mold, but as long as you know the inside dimensions of your mold, you can cut your pieces to fit. This works for slabs and for loaf molds too! We offer up a few production tips along the way as well. Enjoy!

    Thanks for information. I also love that you use sheet pans and pastry racks for your curing racks. Pretty cool!

    Thank you so much for this video! Would love to see a video about how you organize your soap formulations. Where do you keep them, what format, are they easily accessible etc. as well as how you record batch logs! Thank you!!

      Great question! We use an app that is no longer supported, unfortunately (it was an app by brambleberry) when we make our soap (just to check things off), but we keep everything organized in Soapmaker 3 (recording batches, inventory management, etc.), which is a little clunky to use, but I highly recommend it!

    Thank you! You explain thoroughly and in great detail. It is a pleasure to see your videos, I have literally no questions about the topic at the end of your videos.
    I have a suggestion. How would it be if one were to make a template, with a firm card which is exactly the size of the bottom of the mold? Placing this template on top of your measured torn off section you can fold both the two opposite bottom corners of the mold without having to actually put the measured torn paper into the mold at all. I think this could save you a bunch of time - avoiding having to put the paper into the mold, use the 3 cornered ruler and having to hold the paper down to find the inside corner edges. I recon you could have a second template for the vertical sides as well, also avoiding having to use the wood mold to measure the dimension from the bottom edges to the top - you could fold them over the card template as well. I hope I am explaining so that you 'get' what I'm trying to say. :)

      Yes, this is a great idea! I've seen people do this and if it works for you, go for it! We actually cut all our pieces at once and it is very quick, so we don't typically put our paper into the mold to measure. We just have a huge stack of paper sitting ready to go. However, this technique might help with folding the inside edges, as you mentioned. Great idea and thanks for sharing!

    What an amazing, detailed explanation! I definitely think I can do that. Other explanations made it seem more complicated even though I know it will take some practice!

    I couldn't find the paper you use in Turkey. I keep the large mold with baking paper, but the size feels too small.

    I love your wealth of practical knowledge. What a saver the paper is being able to use it for both moulds and trays with minimal cutting.
    Made my first master batch lye water and used some yesterday wow was it a time saver. Thank you
    Can you tell me do you use citric acid and if so how do you add it. I’m thinking of with additional part of fluid plus extra NaOh then add to batter

    • @muddymintsoap
      @muddymintsoap  Місяць тому

      Hi there! I've been asked this a few times! I've actually never used citric acid, so I'm not super familiar with it. From what I know, I think you can draw out the total amount of lye you need (including the extra) from the 50/50 lye water solution and then add the citric acid to that. Then, you'll probably just need to add less additional liquid, since you'll have extra water from the extra sodium hydroxide you included. Does that make sense? Hopefully it does, but I might also have it wrong, as I"ve never actually done this myself.

    Thank you so much for posting this. I have been lining my slab moulds with one piece of paper with intricate folds. I have been afraid to have separate pieces within the slab mould. My question is, does soap batter go underneath those folds between the pieces? It's my biggest concern. Thank you in advance. Love from Australia!

    • @muddymintsoap
      @muddymintsoap  Місяць тому +2

      Nope! It doesn’t go under. Try it with a small batch and see! I mean, maybe it your batter is really watery and your freezer paper is poorly placed, maybe that could happen? We’ve done it this way for years and have literally made hundreds of thousands of bars this way without any issue. Good luck!! ❤️

    Thank you thank you. Absolutely love these molds. What type of wood are they made out of? From the top it sort of looks like maybe plywood but I'm not 100% sure. Maybe add some instructions for building the molds to your site? I'd buy that :)

      @@muddymintsoap That would be awesome! If not, having the dimensions(which I believe you stated early in your video) will help, I can probably puzzle out the rest. These videos are kind of a soap-making masterclass on scaling up. quite useful.

    Thank you for sharing, lovely way to do this, I do have a question? Can these be reusable ?

    • @muddymintsoap
      @muddymintsoap  Місяць тому +1

      We do not reuse ours, but we did reuse our paper for lining curing trays. You could try to reuse them by wiping them down a bit, but I’d probably want to use it with the same scent. You could potentially create a liner like this with something more reusable too, or you could have a silicone liner made.

      If you are looking for something reusable, try using waterproof fabric. I use cotton latex fabric. In my country this fabric usually used for making bedsheets for babies. After soap making you canwash it and reuse.
