owned 2 ph1 172, flame red and iceberg silver. williams prior to those and a new 172 cup followed by many other cars, imprezas , bmws etc. bought another 172 cup 5 years ago as they were cheap and i missed owning one and still have it. fantastic cars. cups are the best imo, even lighter and rawer plus they look great. noise wise the best thing you can do is fit a ktec induction kit, transforms the induction noise and sounds awesome on full throttle.
Beautiful car inside and out. Timeless design. Enjoy! I have a MK3 MX5 I'm enjoying and ppl seem to hate the NC but it goes like a bullet. So much fun! Apart from the fuel prices...
An addendum to a previous post, My Clio Sport 172 Phase 1 is now up for sale. Unfortunately, it was involved in an accident, with no other cars involved, but the drivers side door needs attention, as does the rear bumper. Also needs a new battery, which I am willing to provide. Everything on the car is original (in other words it needs restoration). I love this car, and brought my baby son home in it, so would like to see it run again. £750. Only serious restorers need apply. Photos of it's condition available on request.
Cool vid, I have a tidy one that I have slowly been bringing up to a high standard. Great little hot hatches these. Got some real character. This 172... From memory an older chap owned this car and maintained it well for many years. It was sold very cheap around lockdown for possible breaking, but it was to nice to break so it was sold on! Done some serious miles this one, but great to see it's still going strong.
Great video, I have the same car. I have an X reg, shift light/alloy bonnet version. They just aren't on the roads anymore, they did come with the option of the OZ wheels to come in 16's. Hold on to it! 😊
Echo your comments about mileage as well… the drivetrain is brilliantly engineered even if the cabin trim is not… mine had 120k when I sold it on original clutch and gearbox, all working perfectly. Next owner had it rolling roaded and it made 168bhp
just out of interest, I have a silver phase 1 up for sale, 160,000 miles on the clock. How much do you think I should advertise it for? It's taxed and mot'd.
Very difficult to assess. The Ph1 are now rare cars although the 160k miles will put some buyers off! Condition and history will be key to gaining a good price. If everything is “good” condition (not excellent or poor) then I’d expect you’re somewhere around £4k to be a reasonable asking price.
Too much gassing at the beginning. Who cares about the headlights etc anyone who knows what they’re on about can tell a ph1 apart from a ph2 - get on with the drive! Agree with you on the drive having owned one… lovely punchy raw engine and nicely weighted controls. I liked the standard exhaust, quite raspy without being too loud, induction sound brilliant on these too. What a car
heyy, i have the same clio and the small circle that keeps blipping up in red, i've been wondering what it could be because i dont know if its a failure or its just the car. Thanks.
The phase 1 is in my opinion the best looking Clio.

Great info thanks mate. Currently tossing up between a 172 and a 182 cup here in Australia
Always had a thing for the front end on these, looks quite aggressive

I'll give you 1000 quid cash.🐶 Please...
Always preferred the 172 phase 1 looks with its kinda A80 Toyota Supra headlights.
For sale on eBay and marketplace if anyone is interested

Condition is top notch for the mileage. Nice review Rich!
Surprising condition isn’t it? Quite remarkable that it’s approaching 200,000 miles
Just bought one today. I have a Toyota aygo mk1, a 1.8 mk5 escort and this. I’m only 18. This car is too quick!
You’re a lucky lad to have x3 cars at 18 👍🏻
