The amount of "what about this scene?" Comments here is proof positive that the 80s were an awesome decade for movies, there's just too many to choose from.
So many moments to choose from, but here's three from some of my favourites: 1. The arrival of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man in Ghostbusters 2. The piano scene in Big 3. John Maclaine shouting "Welcome to the party pal" in Die Hard 👍
Yeah the whole of the Twin Pines Mall scene is my choice for most iconic scene of all time, you get to see some serious shit! ...it contains both the first and second temporal displacement!
My Top 10 most Iconic movie scene moments of the 1920s-1960s or Pre-70s List 1. Kong Top in the Empire Stage Building 2. Murder! at the Shower's 3. the Red Sea Parts 4. "You Maniac" 5. Godzilla attacks! Tokyo 6. the Graveyard Standoff 7. Singing in the Rain 8. the Chariot Race 9. "Bond, James Bond" 10. the Bone My Top 10 most Iconic movie scene moments of the 1970s List 1. the Space DogFight 2. Training Montages 3. the Alien ChestBurster 4. Chrisis Last Swim 5. "You Talking to Me?" 6. "I Love the smell of Napalm in the Morning" 7. Human body's in the Bed 8. "a Super Rescue" 9. "Do you feel Lucky" 10. the Cool Walk
Luke Skywalker: “He told me you killed him.” Darth Vader: “No, I am your father.” My number one favorite scene from ‘Star Wars Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back.’ 😃
The Crane Kick is another Iconic Scene from the 80s you missed. This, “Wax On, Wax Off”, and “I Am Your Father” are my favorite iconic scenes from the 80s
The Ferris Bueller scene shown is one of many which disproves the claim that he's in the imagination of Cameron. Sloane & Cameron have a conversation while Ferris is singing on a float. Also, if Ferris were a figment of Cameron's imagination, who are Sloane & Jeannie?
My sister had to go to Chicago for a work conference for 2 weeks. My brother in law and one of my nieces went to visit her for the weekend. While on their way to see the musical Cats, they had to go through a crowd at a parade. The crowd was the extras in the middle of filming the parade in Ferris Bueller
Why did you not include anything from An American Werewolf in London, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Terminator, Betty Blue, Fatal Attraction, Full Metal Jacket or Die Hard?
- Return of the Jedi -It’s a trap!” - The Goonies -the Truffle Shuffle - My Neighbour Totoro- The Catbus - Who Framed Roger Rabbit- Baby Herman walk off-set and into a live-action film studio. - The Karate Kid- crane kick to win the tournament. - The Terminator-I’ll be back, - Flashdance -Jennifer Beals dances to What A Feeling .
How can Footloose be completely be skipped over even in “honorable mentions “? Most of these movies you know the scenes even if you’ve never watched the movies but Blade Runner over Footloose? Never in my life have I seen that. Way off the mark there.
Raiders of the lost ark and back to the future and the shining and scarface and the E.T. the Extraterrestrials and blade runner and the karate kid and star wars v the empire strikes back are my favorite 80s movies will be stick with me all the time on the DVDs or on TV
My List 1. The Skywalker Revolution 2. Fly across the Moonlight 3. Here's Johnny! 4. the Golden Idol 5. "Say hello to my little Friend" 6. Johnny B. Goode 7. SGT. Elias Death 8. the BoomBox 9. ALIEN Brawl 10. Parade
With Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back revelation of Darth Vader’s iconic line, “No, I am your father,” line, I was completely starstruck when I watched it on DVD back in the early 2000s. But, after seeing the original Karate Kid when it was on Netflix, it was like watching Avengers: Endgame and watching the Rocky/Creed films. Cheering Daniel LaRusso on, I have to watch Cobra Kai now. I’ve only watched one episode, but I forgot about how it went down.
Storywise, BTTF's "Johnny B. Goode" scene is unnecessary to the plot. (And honestly, Marty probably would've made the film's clock tower climax way less of a nail biter if he had forgone the Chuck Berry rockout session and left the dance sooner.) However, it does serve as an emotional release from the tense existential crisis that was resolved in the previous scene and gives the audience a chance to breathe and have fun before the film's climax kicks in.
The battle over Metropolis in Superman II, the 'lighting up' scene in 9 to 5, the finale audition in Flashdance, attack on the lighthouse in The Fog, caught between two trucks in The Hitcher........krakatoa! - I LOVE THE 80S!
So many iconic scenes from the 80's movies. It should've 20 in the list. As an example, one of my favorite line came from "Dirty Harry - Sudden Impact" that goes, "Go ahead, punk! Make my day!". Song was even written using that line.
Why is the boombox scene iconic? I heard of it years before I watched Say Anything, having the impression that it'd be a pivotal moment in the film. However, it has no effect on the rest of the film & isn't mentioned by any of the characters. Had that scene been omitted, the rest of the film would be exactly the same as it is. Diane ignores Lloyd. Why do you say that they want to be together, but circumstances keep them apart? The only thing that means they're temporarily apart is that she decides to end the relationship, before soon going back to him.
It's iconic because "I heard of it years before I watched Say Anything". It doesn't need to be a pivotal moment in the film. It's just a scene where ,even a still frame of the scene, and everyone knows immediately what the movie is whether you've seen it or not. Frequently it is also used in marketing as well. Sixteen Candles it's leaning over the birthday cake. Love Actually is the cue cards. The boombox is an over-the-top romantic gesture that in real life would likely be embarrassing as hell and get both of the parties involved laughed at, at the very least, and in trouble the most likely. Just like the bleacher serenade in 10 Things I Hate About You.
@@davidz2562 No, there's no way to predict what will become the "it" moment in a movie for marketing. And back in the 80's I don't feel like they tried to do that, although I do think today's movies do. For example: The Terminator - "I'll be back." Arnold disliked the line, it's not particularly vital to the plot, however it became the most iconic line of the movie (and oddly prophetic, seeing as the movie was written as a one-off). Even more iconic than "Come with me if you want to live" which has been said in almost every movie, and was clearly written as a recurring theme throughout the franchise. If anything, marketing takes their cues from the reactions of the audiences in test screenings. They show the movie, then survey the audience on what they like, what they dislike, what moments they remember. The boombox moment likely stuck out for multiple members of the test audience, thus marketing decided to use it.
@@byMidnyt But why was the boombox scene included in the first place when it has no effect on the characters or the rest of the film? Diane simply ignores Lloyd. Had he not done that, the rest of the film would have been exactly the same. The subplot of Diane's father stealing money & being sent to prison is also irrelevant. I've often seen Say Anything described as a comedy or comedy-drama, but it's neither - it's a drama that has less humour than most non-comedy films have.
This easily could've been a top 20 list. You missed the Crane Kick from Karate Kid. And Batman's entrance or the Batwing in front of the moon scene should've been an honorable mention.
I love the Johnny B. Goode scene, but its not the best in Back to the Future. Honestly, you just can't beat Biff getting absolutely ROCKED by George McFly!!
I’ve got a few things to say 1. I think number 9 should’ve been number 3 or 2 cause that was great 2. I can see why Peter Parker was right about Footloose never being the greatest movie of all time 3. A lot of these movies(maybe even all of them) were in The Goldbergs cause that took place in the 80s 4. E.T. is one of my favorite 80s movies 5. You were right about number one being there. That line is LEGENDARY. Almost every movie, show, book, and UA-cam channel has that reference
Well, I guess this list is all a matter of personal opinion, but I think the water chair scene from 'Flashdance' was infinitely more iconic than any scene from 'Footloose' (just look at the amount of times the scene has been parodied over the years). Other movie scenes that should definitely be on the list: the Pillsbury dough boy scene from 'Ghostbusters' (instead of 'Back to the Future'), the dinner scene from 'Beetlejuice' (instead of 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'), and the transformation scene from 'An American Werewolf in London'.
As a musician myself I will always love that Johnny B. Goode scene from Back to the Future, so fucking good.. At the same time I’m surprised that “This Goes to 11” from This Is Spinal Tap wasn’t on here, such an iconic scene
Okay I have to admit a friend of mine seen original empire strikes back in theaters when he was little. If I had time machine delorean I'd go back to see it
We loved John Hughes and all other 80s teen movies for showing us what it’s like to be wealthy and privileged with absolutely no gratitude, just entitlement.
I love Princess Bride and as amazing as that Duel was, I felt that Inigo's line "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die" was more iconic.

This video alone shows how great 80s movies are.
And, according to the Breakfast Club, marijuana. 😅
💯
Amen to that
That and the number of iconic scenes that are missing.
damn right!
“Johnny B. Goode” is also one of my several favorite scenes from ‘Back to the Future.’
You know a movie is good when you say, “..one of several favorite scenes” from said movie.
Tom Cruise's scene in Risky Business when he dances to Bob Seger's Old Time Rock And Roll in his house.
I expected that on the list for sure!
The amount of "what about this scene?" Comments here is proof positive that the 80s were an awesome decade for movies, there's just too many to choose from.
Yes, this should be a top 20.
Mark Zuckergecko, eh? 😅
What about virtually ANY scene in Trading Places or Coming to America? 😎✌
I can’t believe Tom Hanks isn’t on the list with “BIG” when he was playing on the big piano in the store.
‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’, the best ‘Indiana Jones’ movie ever made is turning 40 this year.
Not sure I've ever seen Raiders of the Ark. Hope this comment isn't Lost on you.

Awkward.
Anyway, I fixed my mistake.

Yikes, why do I have to be so old? Really started to hit me when the kids of athletes that I remember watching started playing pro sports.
The Last Crusade is superior.

Two movies left out was Ghost Busters and Big. Those were MASSIVE movies in the 80s and so many iconic scenes from both.

Grew up in the 80's, so nostalgic!!! Nice list.

The most iconic movie moment of the 80s is the shopping mall car chase from blues brothers
One of my all time fave movies!! I can watch on repeat ❤️
not even a mention for terminators "i'll be back"

Yeah, that movie deserved at least an honorable mention. I'm sure before long they'll do a Top 20 one of these anyways.
Isn't that in T2? That's a 90's movie
@@darioburstin2418 nah first said it in the first one, police station scene.
Seriously the pool scene in Fast Times at Ridgemont High doesn’t even get mentioned!!! You couldn’t get more iconic than that! 😤

It's the best teen film of all time. I don't understand why it isn't recognised as such.
