    Bob could do a few things to the painted case, depending on what the case itself is made of. 99% Isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol) will shift it, but trying it on an inconspicuous area would be wise if the silver beneath the black is any kind of paint. The kindest way to remove it would be to do it indoors in the warm and use a hair dryer to heat up the emulsion. This softens the paint slightly and also reduces its adhesion. The scalpel will then peel off much larger areas. Doing it in the cold, unless you have strong sunlight heating up the black paint, will make it more likely to come of in small flakes.

    Beautiful collection once again! I saw that Black Rick 12 string? Very cool havent seen many black versions i guess the refin explains that and a very nice job, it does look factory refin in my opinion too. That guild is pretty cool too i almost got my hands on one similar to that one but with one pickup instead of two. I would love to own a gretch penguin they sound great and have a very nice neck! Amazing strat too wow really like that color and has a very nice looking fretboard. I've never seen that kind of pickguard on a strat before with the cut out for the truss rod? Really cool. Thanks for sharing! Rock on!

    I own a ‘72 strat, a ‘72 les Paul custom, a ‘73 les Paul studio (horrible low impedance black pickups), a 74 Tele, a ‘59 les Paul Jr. with single black P90 cherry, a ‘76 les Paul standard (love it), a ‘71 Hofner violin body 6 string with built in fuzz tone, a 2003 strat and a new 2017 Strat w/one humbucker a two traditional single coils. Acoustics I own are a ‘69 Hofner, a ‘73 Martin D35 (with samsonite case) and a ‘74 Gibson J-200. But obviously far short of your marvelous collection. 👍🏻

    Re: the Duo Jet -- I have a similar guitar, a '57 that started life as a Firebird (red version), it was at some point long ago painted Cadillac Green. Meaning the drum cover plastic was actually removed. Weird, but the reason I'm writing this is just to say that those 50's Dynasonic pickups are mind-blowing good. It sounds nothing like the reissue versions. Tons of character and actually pretty loud, not twangy at all! Get collection, Bob, thanks for doing this.

    you guys are great, and i love it....especially your guitar playing....your phrasing and choice of notes is excellent....
    I've actually LEARNED a lot about these old guitars...how they are constructed, ...it is fascinating.
    there is only one tiny problem for me, and it is just glaringly obvious, especially since you TALK about how the Gretsch? pickup is different than a P-90?
    and then at the END where you show the Dumble Clones and master volume units- i was REALLY hoping to HEAR you play an electric guitar through an amp...
    i KNOW its a LOT more production and all, good mics, better cameras....all that....but even at a lower volume i would LOVE to hear you play through an amp.

    Strat almost looks firemist gold rather than shorline gold metalic. Aging is pretty neat with gold guitars it seems. I kinda like the green that comes out in the older gold top les pauls too.

    • @ronfrey6639
      @ronfrey6639 5 років тому +1

      Thought the same thing ! but Firemist is a newer color found on 64 Caddys they also had firemist silver..
      I own the Dupont book with the fender and gibson colors......
      They used clear coats and binders to get a glossy finish over metalics.. If this is 61 62 and it is Its not Firemist
      its just shoreline with the clear coats turning color. Also Alfredo was spraying for fender he started in 63
      according to Michael Stevens who opened the fender custom shop Alfredo was still there in late 80s when Stevens took the reins to redo the custom shop and build them accurate again old school.
      I know this because I studied under Stevens in Austin while they worked on my 58 strat they did SRV AND EJS WORK... Firemist was not shot till about 65 or so.... But this one looks closer to that color....
      Stevens called it morning pee color hahahahaha This one Bob owns looks like a good size neck for 62
      Im guessing they were not using grey bobbin pickups yet either till maybe 62 63... Ive seen black bobbins in 60 61 era guitars still... left overs from 50s . YOU DONT SEE MANY 62 NECKS I did work for VIC FLICK 007 GUITARIST
      and he sent me his 1961 neck I built an olympic white strat around it for him. lol I think he sold it too Vegas for 55 grand which makes me laugh outloud considering I made the body.. hahahahahahha

    The gold finish Stratocaster puts me in mind of a guitar that I saw Richard Thompson playing in some pictures from the Sandy Denny era Fairport Convention. This is the only other one I've seen. Must have been a rare(ish) finish. Looks lovely. Nice collection. Would love to hear some of the guitars through an amp. Thanks from New Zealand.

    I love the beginning - “the ‘idiot’ latch on the back”!
    Love these inventories! I would try playing models like these, but I wouldn’t feel safe picking them up. “Don’t touch it!”
    Does either of you know the first ever 24-fret model? I first thought it was a Gretsch or a Rickenbacker. Then, I thought it was the Red Special. Could you gents please help me out?
    If I had that Rickenbacker 12 string and a few extra clams, I would swap the tuning knobs for the main strings with the ones for the echo strings (less havoc with the knobs, hopefully) and replace one of the stereo outputs with a Piezo pickup.

    You have the pole pieces way too high in the bridge of that Gretsch. I don't know why so many people put pickups so close to the strings. It causes so many problems! You only want to do that with active pickups because of the nature in which they work.

    • @Les537
      @Les537 5 років тому +1

      You want them where they sound best with what you are after. I tend to keep the screws as low as they go and the pickup pretty high up near the strings for a fat sound. If you want them to clean up with less bass lower them. If you want more volume, but not so much more bass raise the poles. There is no rule - only options and your ears.

    Hi, I don't know but I've got to add my 2 cents here. Part 1 & 2 is awesome, but when you're this old Bob ,why would you spend a King's ransome on all of these guitars. If you were say 30 and rock star, I could see the point. Sorry I just don't get it. Nothing better to spend the big bucks on?I

      michael newell Maybe Bob is not showing off......
      Maybe Bob is sharing his collection and knowledge with us.
      I am jealous of course. Same as you are. But I have got all the guitars I need. Some of them are Chinese, Korean, or Indonesian. Some are American, some are British, one is Japanese. One is Italian.
      Just one of Bob's guitars is probably worth more than my whole collection, but I just love the ones I have got. My Epiphone Casino Coupe with replacement pick ups and machine heads is probably the best guitar I have ever played or heard. I'm seventy years old. Been a professional musician since 1967.
      If Bob has the money, good luck to him. What else is he supposed to spend it on.....? Another poxy cruise in the Bahamas dining with the captain and looking at the sea.....?

      Hi, I mean you absolutely right , It's his money, he can do what he likes. I can't but wonder what in the world does this guy Bob do for living. I would surely love to know his and Tony McKenzie's secret for being able to make that kind of money. I am originally from southern California, but left the states to live in Canada since the Viet Nam war in 1970. I knew and was friends with Jackson Browne and his brother Eddie. I spend my time modding amps for people. I have 7 guitars by Gibson, but nowhere near the ballpark that Bob's in. I guess, all the power to him.
