Have you ever had to do any major studio rebuilds? In today’s video we tour Boulevard Recording and see Clay Blair's incredible restoration work of this classic Hollywood recording studio which was destroyed by fire in Nov 2021.
ive done a couple of purpose built small..ish set-ups in a former life one was a studio we built on a campus to be used in the A/V courses as well as other things, we did a radio play in it when we finished installing it and had it "taken over" for broadcast by NPR nationwide i learned ALOT!! on both the installation end as well as the recording specifically for radio end this restoration shows Blairs obvious love of both the studio setting as well as the toys!! 😃😃
Reminds me a little bit of that old saying, "It isn't how you fall down that matters; it's how you get back up." What a great guy and great story. And just a little bit Beatley? Thank you, Warren.
I’m so very pleased Clay has restored his studio. It must have been so hard to imagine getting to this point after such a devastating experience. Good luck for the future Clay!
Congratulations Clay on getting your studio back up and running, hats off to you. Thanks very much Mr Huart for this great video. Almost a tear jerker and as the saying goes......it's like losing a tenner and finding a fiver. Cheers
@@BoulevardRecording your very welcome. What an undertaking you have performed with the studio. You and your team have done extraordinary work and revived the studio to its former glory. Well done, it's no mean feat. Good weekend
Great to see Clay resurrect his studio after such a disastrous fire. Thankfully a lot of historical & valuable pieces saved. Congrats to Clay. Thank you for taking us on the tour Warren.
Congrats to Clay for persevering and bringing the magic back to that incredible place. I remember watching his video after the fire and was devastated for him. Keep on Rockin'!
2016 someone set fire to the house me and my family lived in. Got out in time, two minutes later and we wouldn't be alive today. The firemen did save my bass and my Ampeg B1 because I told them how important they are to me... This rebuild looks awesome!
couple a weeks ago I was in england, and it was freezing cold and pouring with rain and two weeks later im still in england and its freezing and pouring with rain .. I need to get to LA lolol
A good place to play the 'Resurrection Shuffle" - LOL. What a great job! I keep going back to Clay's Beatles vids - learn sooo much. Congrats Clay - all the very best for the future. Kim Australia
It's a beautiful sight isn't it!! 🙏............last time I was in there everything was covered in black soot!, and there was still the aroma of many burnt things. It was the most heartbreaking sight 😢. But now!, it's the most special vibey spot in town, with one helluva central party piece!......work of art indeed! That's so great that some of the old API pieces and others were salvaged. I'm telling you some of that gear from the 60s & 70s will survive the end of the world!. Cheers to Clay and his team! 😉🥂💙
Wow, What a very nice and upbeat exchange between the 2 of you. Casual, complimentary and a nice vibe in a nice studio. Hope it continues to get wonderful music out to us and the artists enjoy the experience while recording and composing.. Highly motivational to those of us with smaller studios and budgets. I loved this interaction with Warren and Clay.... best to you guys! ......nick, Navarre Fl.
making the best out of what could have been a complete tragedy 🤔🤔 looks like a GREAT studio resulted through im sure much hard work and love by many congrats on being triumphant over the MANY challenges that must have arisen looks like an amazing studio...im glad it is preserved and thank you Warren for the peek into his domain!!😄😄
Interesting that Clay says the Trident piano was a "Studio Grand" size.... according to Trident's original owner and builder, Norman Sheffield, it was definitely a "Concert Grand". Also, the current owner of the piano, Roy Thomas Baker, says it is a Concert Grand size. Not that it really matters, but when you have both the original owner (and builder of the studio) alongside the current owner (and producer for Queen) saying it is a Concert Grand, I'd tend to believe them.
According to the auction from years back, it was under 6.5 feet which is not considered a concert grand. But I’m happy to learn something new if I’m wrong ! Thank you
@@BoulevardRecording I'm not sure why I mentioned it, cause like I said, I don't think it really matters. (and my initial comment looks like I was being snarky, but I promise I wasn't) The photos of the Trident piano make it look larger than 6.5 feet, but photos are weird sometimes. Definitely check out Norman's book if you get some free time. It's pretty neat. I love your studio, btw, and I'm so glad you rebuilt the way you did!
6:49 I think I remember that guy from an interview from 5 or 6 years ago. Is that the studio at which Pink Floyd recorded some stuff for The Wall? Gonna continue watching now. :) So far so good! EDIT: WHAHAHAHA!!! I should've watched just a couple of seconds extra. :P
You have to learn Russian “Do svidaniya” good bye:)) thanks for the tour. Amazing studio. When i saw Atomic, i thought for a second i’ve seen this label before and realized they build PSU for consoles. Wonder what they sound like
