  • This upgrade to the popular Syma X8 includes FPV, easy assembly/disassembly, and altitude hold to enable easy stable flying for aerial video. Find it here goo.gl/3LvVC6 or here on Amazon amzn.to/2tuHhRg
    Pros
    - Cool looking design, with white canopy and shiny red trim.
    - Easily and quickly assembled and disassembled for transportation.
    - WiFi FPV
    - Can record 720p HD video directly to a SD card, and/or directly to your phone via WiFi.
    - Altitude hold feature works very well, and greatly eases flying of the quadcopter.
    - Includes headless mode, and one key automatic takeoff and landing.
    - Good flight time at close to 10 minutes.
    Cons
    - Proprietary battery.
    - Video quality is somewhat grainy and overexposed.
    - Descent with auto land feature is very rapid and may cause quadcopter to flip in landing.
    - Requires FAA registration. $5 and 5 minutes to register here registermyuas....

    In a trade show video, I heard a Syma rep quote "Syma doesn't use brushless motors in order to keep the product's cost down!" Well apparently, other manufacturers have found a way to do it and looks like my "hero" the Syma X-8 is done!!! The Bugs3 debuts at a cost ($85 at TomTop) a little less than the price of my original Syma X8-SC (the version that introduced headless mode) and a couple of other X8 series quads currently on the market. I was once a big fan of Syma and supporter, but I don't think I'll be recommending or reviewing this one on my channel because of it's value. "SYMA IS ROBBING PEOPLE!!!" LoL!!!! Thanks, great review. -djsoulforce

      Don't really feel that brushless motor quadcopters are appropropriate for beginner fliers (nor is the Bugs 3). Thus brushed motor quadcopters still do have a place. But yes, I was hoping for more technical improvements to the X8SW here in 2017. The LVC and range warning telemetry beeps of the Bugs 3 controller should be standard with all quadcopters (not just toy grades). Improved HD cameras is another expectation (true (not interpolated) 1080p 30fps should also be standard these days IMO).

    If it aint broke, don't fix it. The X8G is still the most solid of the Syma's big quads. Still flying mine and its still going strong. Pas on these new ones.

    I was hoping after the last x8G models Syma would have corrected the unintentional motor shutoff issue in their latest release. But I see from this video Syma has gone even further off course.

    I thought maybe Syma would have learned from the X5HW and made altitude hold with a selection switch. I don't fly it any more. Got my x8H and it's a monster. I have to most fun with the x5sw with trimmed landing and no prop guards. BTW, as always, great review.

    king quad(my nickname for you).....i purchased a syma sky thunder 8500wh which appears to be exactly like this quad except for the color....extra batteries appear to be harder to get than a unicorn kiss so i am wondering if the battery on this quad would fit the 8500wh the 8500 is red and the x8sw is white but other than that the batteries appear to be the same the white battery IS available on the syma site...its a bit pricy but i would buy one just to have an extra....soooooo to make a long story............................even longer....do you think the x8sw battery will fit my 8500wh?
    i absolutely love your quad reviews and always check out your vids first when looking to buy a quad....

    Syma is placing themselves squarely behind the competition with no new upgrades, no brush less models, no GPS , and no fixes for known bugs. This is just an overpriced brushed quad will no real use . If Syma doesn't come out with a brush less version soon, they will miss the boat. The prop mod was nice but parts that snap in place break easily and quickly. Your review was thorough but seeing how Syma has still not fixed the throttle down bug, it shouldn't even be a consideration. Syma really needs to step it up if they want to stay competitive.

      danny hammonds ...don't waste money on wifi FPV. Syma advertises this wifi FPV range to 30 meters. this won't even get you out of your own backyard. purchase an all in one cam vtx/VRX for about $30 on Banggood. then you can you move it to any rc vehicle. Syma cameras are proprietary and only work on Syma quads. my advice ...find a quad you really like, then buy a camera system that can be moved from quad to another. runcam provides good HD video and has FPV output. it's small and portable. many other similar options out there.

    Can you trim this while its on the ground ?

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  5 років тому +1

      If you're on the ground, it's better to instead do a compass calibration.
      1) Turn on the quadcopter and place it on a flat and level surface.
      2) Turn on and bind the transmitter. Center all trim tabs.
      3) Leaving the quadcopter undisturbed, move and hold both control sticks to their lower right corners. Hold them there until the quadcopter's lights blink. If they don't blink, then try lower leftt corners, lower outboard, or lower inboard until you notice the lights blink.
      4) Let go of the sticks and try flying.

    I really don't see any upgrades here. It's nice that the props come off easier because they're a pretty big pain on my X8C. Although, since I don't put it into the dirt or run into things, I still have the originals on and they're doing just fine. The proprietary battery was a TERRIBLE move on their part. They clearly want to only tailor to the beginner market.

    This thing has so many drawback or negatives, I wouldn't recommend it to an enemy. I can appreciate that they fixed the horrendous prop attachment of the older X8 (with the pin), but that's about the only upside to this "new improved" version, although it appears to have a better pitch angle in high rate than previous models. Proprietary battery is an automatic 'strike out' for me. The camera not only has Jello, but it has NO COLOR. All you have to do is look at any of the flight video and compare it to your hat cam and see there is no color .. or very little. Limited Wi-Fi range (and I'll bet the 'new improved' TX doesn't have the range that the old one did). An APP that crashes and won't auto-reconnect when it gets back in range. The auto landing should be called "auto-crash". Sorry Syma .. for the amount you're asking for this POS, a person could get a Bugs 3, which is 10 times the quad that this 'new improved' X8 is .. terrible. Syma will have a hard time selling this one to anyone who's seen the "competition". Sorry for trashing this thing, but beyond the new prop attachment, I find little that I like about it. I DO appreciate your reviewing it though, if just to see sunny skies, so that I know that eventually we'll see the sun again back this way. Cheers.

      Bill: Thanks for your review. It seems that although Quad101 does a good job and honest job of reviewing he leans toward glass half full rather than half empty. I'm beginning to think his royalties are having an influence.

    • @christianblade2052
      @christianblade2052 7 років тому +2

      Well, reviewers are sort of caught between two boulders in a way. Reviewers really want to do honest reviews, but they also want to maintain a good relationship with the manufacturers so they can continue reviewing their products. This is where the YT comment section actually helps us potential buyers with truthful input be it positive or negative.

    • @billsomrak
      @billsomrak 7 років тому +4

      I'm sure Q101's loyalties are to his legion of viewers. I think he does a good job of demo-ing the new product, but leaves it up to his reviewers to make the final judgement for themselves. Some use the 'thumbs down' as a way of expressing their feelings about the offering, while others may prefer to give a thumbs up for the review, but then offer their written opinion in the comments, which is the route I take. When I see something I like, I'm quick to praise it as in my comments on the Bugs 3 or BT X16. I try to keep in mind what type experience a n00b might have and approach from that angle. On a more personal note, I have recommended Symas in the past, especially the 'original' X5C-1 (which is still available), and the X11. Recently, however, the new X5HC I found is problematic for beginners as there is no "instant motor kill" feature, which has cause a friend of mine to have to replace 3 motors on the X5HC I got him to buy. Stick commands will eventually kill the motors, but by then the damage is done. I can no longer recommend the X11, as the last 2 I got from Amazon recently both have the same defect. They take off and shake like hell in the air for the 1st minute or so of flight, then smooth out and fly normally. The 1st one I got I sent back to Amazon, who cheerfully replaced it. The replacement has the same problem, so I have to assume Syma got a bad run of gyro ICs (more likely their contract builder) and that the latest batch of X11s aren't worth it. Ultimately, this falls back on Syma, as their QC should be doing random checks from their contract manufacturer to verify that the product they're shipping is a good one. Oh well .. the problem is not Syma's exclusively, as I've seen some pretty terrible 'manufacturing defects' across various quad Manufacturers. I still applaud reviewers, who bring us the 'latest & greatest', because I like to keep up with what's coming out. Cheers.

    • @christianblade2052
      @christianblade2052 7 років тому

      Looks like the proprietary battery is the direction Syma is going in now. If they would make it an actual smart battery I think I would be more favorable to the idea, but unfortunately I feel the proprietary battery will be on all of Syma's new and future models from now on.

    what is the weakness of drone syma x8 pro this. I see a lot of videos complaining about crazy moves. is there a solution for crazy move

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  6 років тому

      There does not seem to be a solution. Unfortunately the problem seems to be inherent to the design of the drone.

      Usually because of WiFi interference. Are you flying near apartment buildings, or heavy residential area? If so, try flying away from buildings, such as in a park.

    • @Quadcopter101

      You can pack the drone WITH BATTERIES REMOVED in your checked luggage. But the batteries must be in your carry on luggage. No more than two allowed. Make sure to tape over the terminals to prevent short circuiting.

    I need a cheap altitude hold drone for a complete beginner - whats your suggestion?

    • @kenjiurban
      @kenjiurban 7 років тому

      Throttle Addiction I've got one of those, and I've got the Furibee F36 - I want something a little larger and more powerful as the wind is always an issue here it seems, and I really do want the altitude hold ☺ Thank you for reply though 👍 I was hoping to pay about $40-$50 USD for one the size of the Syma with the hold function. Camera is not required.

    • @kenjiurban
      @kenjiurban 7 років тому

      Throttle Addiction sorry I wasn't clear about the altitude hold - I do know that won't help with the wind, it's purely to give me a nice stable flight whilst I learn to fly properly - I don't have much space to fly indoors AND I have a Frenchie who sees the mini drones as the enemy - 😁 keeping in mind I am a beginner, what do you recommend? To be honest I was going to buy the new JJRC X5C clone that QC has just reviewed.. i can have it paid for and delivered for $41 AUD.

    • @kenjiurban
      @kenjiurban 7 років тому

      Throttle Addiction I'm sorry again, I mad a mistake by not checking which one the H8C was properly, I do not have the H8C, I have one that is much much smaller, the JJRC equivalent of the F36. Sorry about that, I've led you right off track 😞 I think I will go a little higher in price and buy that X5HW - does it have stable flight? Is it a true beginners drone?

    • @kenjiurban

      Did you install the propellers yourself? If so, would it be possible to upload short video showing the propellers on your drone? The reason I ask is that there are two different shapes of propellers designed for the two clockwise spinning and two counter clockwise spinning motors on the drone. If a propeller is installed on a wrong turning motor, the drone won't take off.

    so everyone is releasing brushless toygrade quads and syma only makes a few estetic improvements? I learnt how to fly thanks to a x8w quad but I find this "new model" an insult to the community

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  7 років тому +10

      Syma has decided to maintain their focus on new fliers. Due to safety, powerful brushless quadcopters are just not appropriate for beginner fliers.
