My wife grew up in a log cabin with a wood stove. I called her into the room about the time you got back to the tent with the pipe and told her you needed help with your stove. She asked what the problem was and I told her it was backdraft. She watched for about 15 seconds (to about the time you started installing the new pipe) and said you didn't need her help because you figured it out on your own. I guess she really knows her wood stoves.

I give you a lot of credit for sticking with it and solving the stove issue!
Of course this "weird night" video comes on the day that they held an attempted coup here in the U.S. Talk about weird and things going terribly WRONG!! But thank you so very much for the Northern Lights. It felt like a much needed blessing from Canada!

I've worked up there alot and it is quite amazing. There are actually a few sets of lights up on towers that will tell you whether or not there is a chance of northern lights that night

As slow as molasses in January, lol. Jay.... I think that was one of your best episodes yet. You try to fix the gasket around the stove door. I'm yelling .... "No Jay... you need to do that at room temp. It will never work!". Then you run out to Canadian Tire, lol. And I'm yelling... "Don't forget to get a damper!". Sorry your lantern mantle disintegrated and your Coleman stove was giving you trouble. But best one yet. Thanks for keeping it real Jay. :)

Well Jay with a lot of experience with things going wrong once it starts there is no stopping Murphy’s Law. I’m glad you got the stove fixed once you get the the damper installed it will probably be perfect, I hope. Thank You for showing the northern lights, they should be on everyone’s bucket list they are spectacular, a video does not do them justice. Till next time be safe my friend thank you for taking us on the ride.

Your videos are top notch, Jay. I really appreciate the honesty that comes through. You have no pretences, and are completely willing to show your mistakes as well as your triumphs. That is what makes it all so real, and so enjoyable. After all, most people viewing these videos are novices, and actually learn more from your sometimes crazy experiments.

The difference in area between a 5" pipe and 6" diameter pipe is 30%, so it makes a big difference. Size matters when it comes to pipes. LOL. Glad something worked out. I suspect you could get buy with 1 less section of pipe for a total of 8'. Now it will be a hunt to get a damper for a 6" section of pipe and install it. As a stop gap measure, you can control air flow with the front damper to get some control on how hot the stove is burning.

You may want to make a set of steel grates to put on top of the fire bricks in the bottom, it will get the wood off the flat surface and allow more air flow underneath the wood. Great video thanks

Definitely need a dampener. Slow the burn down, as well as restrict alot of the heat from going through the chimney. But you're getting it there. One step at a time.

Hi Jay. This is a true story. My dad used to hunt with a gang of brothers. The cabin we would go to had an incinerator in the centre of the cabin. It was similar to your new wood stove. One brother, Fern woke up drenched in.sweat because Guy, a brother was a fire bug. Fern shoveled the incinerator full of snow. 2 or 3 hours later, the wood dried and was rocking again. Fern was cursing in French. My dad told me this story years ago. The camp I have now, we have an air tight WOOD CHIEF....The draft mechanism on the door has a bimetal spring....it drives us crazy when it wants to open. The binging sound is nuts. The stove is awesome tho...can really keep a nice slow burn fire going.

Hey Jay, if you haven't done so already, you may want to throw a few self tapping sheetmetal screws in that pipe where each section slips together. I'd hate to see the wind knock the top section of pipe off and onto the roof of the tent. As a former HVAC sheetmetal worker, I hated seeing you struggle snapping that pipe together.... its very easy to do once you lean the technique. Another great video, Jay! 👍

Jay. You need to unscrew the plunger pump a while and then screw it back in. Looks like there wasn’t enough pressure in the tank. Also you can put some chapstick on the leather plunger plug to make it seal better and not dry up. In extreme cold, you can spray some gas from the generator directly onto the burner. Then put it in and try lighting it. Pressure. And lots of it. Even after its lit helps.

Love this tent setup!! So great! BUT I can't get over that there's no critter disturbance. Which is awesome, but crazy to me.
