18:20 I've now got the body back from the shop, so let's have a look at it
*literally looks at it*

A very nice job, indeed! But don`t be afraid of making longer videos,
showing some of all the steps you are going through. Thank you.
Thanks Tony. I try and keep my videos under 25mins, which does mean that some of the steps are shown briefly or not at all. But I'll keep your comment in mind.
@@flameguitars5770 ya I see why you would need to do just 25 min for brevity, you could always make an episodic style thing where you have multiple 25 min videos and another video thats just a 25 min summary of all the videos
@Apache Longbow thanks for the comment. Yes, I am aware from other comments that viewers wish I included all the steps. I'll bear that in mind.
Yes, I agree. Longer videos would be great. And also discussing some of the products you use for polishing etc. I assume these types of videos are for a specialist audience, or at least an audience who has a interest in the details. I am a performer, not a maker. But I have a keen interest in both instrument making specifically as well as wood working in general.
In my opinion the way it came into the shop is the look I like the most. So black, dirty and gothic looking. Awesome
Absolutely fantastic. Everyone has an opinion. Mine is that ended up one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen. The pick guard is what really set it above and beyond for me. Stunning.
The care and attention to detail that you put into this to ensure a proper restoration is wonderful! Thank you for sharing this with the rest of us.
As a huge Jaguar fan I must say I was totally mesmerised by this transformation.. a hearty BRAVO sir.
Thanks very kind of you. Glad you enjoyed it
Beautiful work, I love seeing vintage guitars like this one being brought back to life.
I Must Have Been Living Under A Stone !, As I’ve Only Just Discovered These Videos.
It’s Such A Joy To Behold Such Care, And Lovingly Created Craft. Admiration And Greetings From Scotland.
It is quite enjoyable watching your videos, not only because the obvious amazing repairs and builds, but also the relaxing ambience in general.
Great choices on the restoration, it went from a loved scruff to an original finish showroom beauty!
Excellent work, thanks for sharing.
That's just beautiful! You did a WONDERFUL job!!
Love it. Great to see a master at work. The Jag looks amazing. Well done David.
A pleasure to see a hard-used survivor so nicely brought back!
So glad I found your channel!!! You explain your plan and demonstrate your methods soooo much better than any other channel I've found!!! Great work and keep them coming!👍👍👍😊
Amazing work! Completely transformed it
Lovely job, pity we didn't hear it playing.
Absolutely incredible work !! This guitar looks amazing with everything you’ve done to it 11/10 !!
Thanks a lot. Appreciate your comments
Brilliant! My wife is not interested in guitars but watches your videos as she is a engineer. Great work
Love the detail you put in that Jaguar.
I’m so glad I found this channel! You did a marvelous job on that guitar, thank you for uploading.
Glad you enjoyed the video Dan. More to come
That guitar is beautiful now. Well done!
I enjoy your relaxed approach to this big job. I assume the owner was happy. Nicely done.👍
That turned out very nice! You are absolutely right about the original pickguards.
Fantastic job !! Well done 👍🏼 lovely to see these old guitars restored back to the original features . I’ve got the squire vintage modified , absolutely identical to the 66. One day I will get my hands on one 😁👍🏼
Loving your work and your clear and concise explanation.
It's kind of you to let us in on this, and I am grateful.
Take Care and Happy New year.
Thanks Philip, i appreciate that. Happy New Year to you too.
Wow another splendid job, an absolute joy to watch
Thanks Alan
Great work.
Brought her back to life . She won't need any work for quite some time now.
Great vid 👍
Love your videos. I was a close friend of another South London maker (Camberwell) when I lived there. (We since both moved to different countries.) Your work is superb. I just watched (again) your video on resetting the two LP headstocks. Brilliant! Thanks!
That is very kind of you, thanks for the encouragement
Nice to see that old guitar come to life again. Great job.
I loved the video. Loved how the guitar came out. Even more so loved the Pet Shop Boys connection. Super cool!
Nice piece of work! Allways Enjoy videos like this
Wonderful video love Fenders great guitar lots of character.
what a gorgeous guitar. Nice job!
very nice to see new life breathed into an old guitar
lovely work
Beautiful work. This is such a cool guitar
I can't imagine how anyone could have restored this better, great job, and a truly nice guitar in the end!
That's very kind of you.
Last night I watched you restore this guitar … who would have thought that tonight I would watch a Lemonheads video and see that very guitar … pre-restoration!!! 🤯
Excellent work as always. Great results David.
Thanks a lot
Great job. Love the paint and especially the aged red tortoise shell pickguard. And the white pickup covers look so much better. Looking like it just came straight outa Fullerton!
Thank you
Lovely work sir - looks amazing
Thanks Brett
Man, the result is a stunning guitar! ❤
Only just found this channel and it's fantastic. I dream to have a guitar like that one day... , amazing work and would happily have watched every step. Love the old tortoise shell pick guards with a sunburst finish, reminds me of picking up my Dad's old Shadows LPs when I was 12 for the first time, and instantly falling in love with the look of the vintage Fender gear. Jet Harris holding his tortoise clad bass. You probably won't see this as it's a year ago since posting, but thanks for sharing your time and knowledge. All the best from Maidstone.
Thanks for your comments Paul. Appreciate that
Very nice video. A beautiful guitar when finished!
Thank you very much!
Amazing work. Restored in full glory! I love how you were able to refurbish and restore all the original parts.
Great job man. I do a lot of this kind of work as well. The best part was the refret solution. It takes mighty balls to pull them frets in place. And the headstock decision, I agree, less is more.
Thanks Tommy. Always nice to receive a positive comment from someone who has done similar work.
Just subscribed. What a beautiful restoration. Your knowledge of the history of these guitars is amazing.
Thank you and welcome
Wow.it’s like new again.beautiful sunburst finish it glows.
20:25 - "bonk"
“It's relicing, innit?“
Superb three color paint job. True to the ones I saw back in the sixties, and only seen on the higher priced reissues, now days.
As a new subscriber, I would like to say that I am really enjoying your filming and videos. Like others, I find myself wanting longer videos, or multi-part series. I wanted to see you insert the new frets, fix the defects in the body, strip the pickups, assemble the guitar and set it up (or at least parts of those activities). Regardless, thank you for taking the time to create wonderful content!
This was always my dream "classic" guitar to own.... My heart sunk when I saw the hideous job someone did on the black paint job. You performed a miracle and brought it back to its original beauty. Great job.
My uncle owns one that looks just like it.
He says He'll never sell it to me, but every man has his price.
Thanks for your comments. Maybe he will give you the Jag one day. Just keep saying how much you love it!
there are some out there
@@monmixer yeah, ive done my shopping around on them... Haven't found a decent one in my price range yet, and the cheap ones are in worse shape than this guy had to fix up.
I may bite the bullet and get a fixer upper.
But I really want my uncles sunburst. The thing is cherry and has a great history.
It also plays like a dream. Probably the best frets ive ever fingered.
It's like waiting for the woman you love to come to her senses and cone home with you.
Very nice restoration and very enjoyable video. Many thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
Very nice work indeed. Wonderful comments during the video as well.
Looks beautiful ..love that pickguard
Well done! I'd love to see more in detail on your videos.
Amazing job on the finish
Nice job! You certainly did it justice.
Beautiful job; very informative. Thankyou!
Incredible work, thanks for making the vid!
Thanks Howard
I wish to say"Thank You".Over the past 8-9 years I have graduated from a "Decent Guitar Tech",into what I can now confidently say"Luthier".I have watched 1,000's of different luthiery videos & soaked up all the knowledge like a dry sponge.
With my skill set now,If I blindfolded someone, handed them a"Fender Custom Shop"& a"Partscaster",I guarantee they would NOT be able to tell the difference playing it(unless it was plugged in and I had not swapped out the pickups yet). But,if I was to put good pickups in a"Partscaster"?And then plug it into an amplifier next to a "F.C.S."?They still wouldn't be able to tell the difference.Thank you,and everyone like you on the internet who has taught me so much about how to bring a guitar to life.Guitars that I thought had no mojo, are some of my most favorite ones now. It's amazing how much one can learn when they apply themselves to a craft.I've been playing for 30 years but it's only been the past 15 or so that I started working on instruments. My competence has grown existentially over the past 8-9 years due to the fact these videos exist.
Glad to be of some assistance. I built my first guitar in the mid-80's, pre internet (yes, there was such a thing!) In those days I had to rely on the few guitar building books that existed. Many mistakes were made and I had to work it out myself. But I enjoyed the journey. Occasionally I am asked why I share my techniques and trade secrets. I have learnt so much from those who have chosen to share their knowledge, and I want to do the same. Social media can be a very negative space. But one of the most positive aspects is the way that knowledge and learning is exchanged,
@@flameguitars5770 I totally agree with you and thank you for replying. I'm a child.of pre-internet myself. I'm 47 years old.I remember when I would have to walk a mile down the street to the pay phone because we forgot to pay the phone bill and they turn the phone off...lol. I personally think the world was a much nicer place without the internet. I have a lot of good memories, and the majority of them are pre-internet.
The internet does have Perks though because of things such as what I described to you in my comment earlier. It's knowledge right at the edge of your hand. But you have to be careful with the Internet or it will suck you in. My wife and I had been married 25 years before I even purchased a laptop computer for the first time...lol. once again thank you so much. You can bet I'll stay subbed and be seeing all your newer videos cuz I've already watched everything you have that is up currently. Have a great day my friend ✌️🤩✌️
beautiful work
Thank GOD he brought this to you! I only wish that you had personally done the finish. I understand that subcontracting this to someone who does this all the time. I have been doing this for 30 years THIS YEAR and I have seen all kinds of things that people do to guitars and most of them should never touch one - let alone perform shadetree luthery to them!! Bless you, Sir for you have done an excellent job restoring this guitar to its' original glory. I also wish that I could've seen you refret this as well. But as it only takes a little while to do once you get the hang of it you can show at least a little snip - it of how you crown, level, dress, etc. Thank you for sharing this with the rest of us and don't be afraid to show us your next project. I subscribed and will be looking for new videos in the future.
Thanks for your kind comments. I did video the more of the refretting process but somehow managed to delete a number of those clips. There are other videos on my channel that focus more on fretwork.
Wow amazing! Impressive nitro finish. It’s more of a rebirth.
Thanks again David, you've done a fantastic job 👍
Pleasure Mark. Thanks for trusting me to work on your guitar.
Incredible job!!
Thanks for the compliment
Beautiful job!
awesome video! i agree would have liked to see all the rewiring and final assembly stuff
That came out gorgeous.
awesome !!!!.....congratulation !!! regards from Tenerife.
Thanks a lot. Regards from a cold and dreary London!
The absolute best paint stripper for anything applied over a delicate plastic surface is automotive brake fluid. It takes a while to do its job, but doesn't harm the plastic in any way. For items like pickguards, just put them in a shallow container like a baking tray, and submerge in fluid. It gently returns the paint to a liquid state rather than making it come off in clumps. It's great stuff.
Excellent restoration. It would have been nice to hear you play it.
Class,Mark is a great Guitarist 👍🏻
Man that is one nice looking guitar
Fantastic work
Thanks Scott
I agree with Lord Jock.. you should have sanded the headstock, then applied a light coat of clear, put on the decal, then another coat of clear. As it looks now, the area where the logo was doesn't look right. Otherwise, a nice restore job.
Decals in the mid 60s weren't sprayed over, Fender started doing that in (I believe) '68.
I’m pretty sure that they didn’t start to spray over the decal until about ‘68 or ‘69.
Beautiful job.
Thank you
Excellent work
It's a shame they don't make them like they used to. Now if you want a guitar that would outlive you now you have to pay top a dollar. I guess if you think about it there's a lot of things that were built back then to last.
I'm a big fan of this guitar and I really loved the new color. I know it's a pretty basic color but there's a reason why it is so popular. I really love how it turned out. You did a great job and you were able to reuse all the original parts. A lot of people these days yank all the old stuff out and stuff in the new and fancy stuff of today. If you think about it the new stuff is only trying to imitate the old technology.
Look forward to seeing your next video.
A Jaguar was $389.50 on the Fender price list for 1968 without a case. Adjusted for inflation, it's approximately $2950. I'd argue that these were top dollar when new. If you buy a new guitar for $2950 now, then I see no reason why that would not last a lifetime too.
It’s just a beautiful Jaguar ! Great job 👏
Thank you
gaahhhhh, that looked so good at the end!
Beautiful work. I had a 1965 Jaguar I purchased in 1991 for $250 in Excellent condition, when they were just starting to come to popularity again, sold it 4 years later for $1,000 and have regretted it ever since. LoL.
Looks brand new 🤩
niceeeeee, such a nice restoration! i really enjoyed this vid and to see how professional you are!!
Thank you so much. On the 1st day of a Coronavirus lock down here in London it is good to have some kind words!
@@flameguitars5770 im in El Salvador, Central America today is our 3rd day on lock down and im working from home so thankfully i have the chance to check nice videos like this one!! maybe in a different one you can explain in detail about how you do and deal with the electronics
Looks amazing!
In this world today where everyone seems to strive for perfection; my philosophy is, "Better than it was, is often good enough."
Great video! But don't be afraid to show more detail like which tools you use and which chemicals exactly and so forth. Would have loved to see your work on the neck and reassembly. You do excellent work!
Nice paint job! Sweet sweet sweet to me anyway. I grew up with a 62 ES175 and the burst was luscious. Way more yellow "sun" than this, but I kinda like the red. It's so deep. Pleasure to my eyes to look at and thats what does it for me. I would want to just hold that guitar, and well, then I start to play. Nice equation.
Looks stunning, the finish seems impeccable. The jag is one of the most aesthetically pleasing guitar out there imo. Shame about the decals though.
Cool shout out to spiritualized from Denton Texas a lot of love at the time he was there for this particular guitar as far as I'm concerned whatever he wants is what's right
Thanks. Very enjoyable. Ditto the comments about showing some steps in detail - however I realise that you've got to get on with the job without too many video production interruptions.
awesome work!
Great work
this resto made me very happy
Glad to make you happy. We do need some happiness at the moment!
Looks amazing. My only complaint is that you have an incredible knack for passing over the more interesting aspects of the restoration and dwelling for long periods on the less interesting sections. I would have loved to have seen the reassembly of the guitar or the actual refinishing, or maybe some playing to hear the guitar. Instead we got two minutes of polishing a pickguard and a long stretch of fiddling with the decal.
Instablaster.
NIce work, with no bragging or promo.
Stunning
You have literally the same voice as the admiral guy from Pirates of the Caribbean, and it’s awesome. Great videos though, hope you plan to do some more
Looks amazing
Great channel , I'm hooked. I would've loved to hear what the guitar sounded like, it now looks really beautiful and full of music.
You did this guitar justice.
