    • @irreview

      i think Mediatrix is possibly acceptable but co-Redemptrix is outright heretical. Christ alone is the Redeemer, that has been dogmatically defined. his Holy Mother never participated in the Redemption. she needed Him to be redeemed, like the rest of us

    • @irreview
      @irreview 4 роки тому +1

      @Jesse Oliver i realized later (after watching it) he wasn't endorsing it explicitly (hence the quesrion mark in the title) but the 'co-' is problematic.
      if we're all co-redeemers, then i need an ecumenical council to enshrine my name as well. sorry to be facetious, but i am worried the catholic laity and schismatic groups like CMRI are clamoring for a new dogmatic definition that may be theologically wrong. Our faith and prayer should be that the Holy Spirit continues to guide us as it always has

    • @irreview
      @irreview 4 роки тому +1

      @Jesse Oliver I believe I heard a breakaway priest say that "she participated in the redemption", and yet pretty much all the prior Popes have said that Christ *alone is responsible for our redemption (multiple encyclicals), so how can anyone participate in our Redemption besides the glorious Redeemer, 'Christ alone'?

    • @irreview
      @irreview 4 роки тому +2

      @Jesse Oliver thank you for the explanation. it makes sense in the context of other Marian dogmas, i was just put off by some of the people who i heard promoting this. they had their own agendas, and i was very skeptical where they were going. but in itself, it could be an expression of a virtuous truth. she was at the Cross, and she is the mother of Mercy. that was her part in Salvation.

    • @rimgrund1
      @rimgrund1 4 роки тому +1

      @@irreview It's having been proposed, the definition "Co-Redemptrix" has been resisted by our recent popes not because it's heretical but because it introduces more confusion than it clears up, as your comment indicates and as Mr. Staples explains. Mary was peculiarly a partner in Christ's redemptive passion, not in a necessary way as though the redemption would not be all it should be without her, but as a uniquely close companion with Him, as only a mother or wife (but Jesus doesn't have His wife, yet) could be.
      Consider, for instance, how St. Paul describes his own sufferings as filling up what is lacking in Christ's sufferings for the salvation of the world. Now, no one thinks Christ's suffering was in any way insufficient, on its own, for the salvation of all mankind, nor does any one think Paul thought that. In a hyperbolic way, Paul is explaining how a Christian's sufferings, united to Christ's, can be meritorious and add to the merits earned by Christ on the cross. In that way, Paul and all the saints are partners with Christ in His redeeming work. The title of Co-Redemptrix would mean something like Mary's being pre-eminently a partner with her Son, in that way, in the redemption of humanity.

    • @alhilford2345
      @alhilford2345 4 роки тому +2

      Worship is adoration of God alone, to acknowledge our complete dependance on Him as Creator and Redeemer.
      We worship God in the Blessed Sacrament.
      Prayer, in it's original meaning is to ask, beseech, implore, request, petition, beg, entreat, but the definition of the word has changed with time, as has much of our language.
      But, we are usually asking God for something, hence the term "pray"
      Catholics pray to Our Lady, saints and angels to ask them to pray to God on our behalf; to intercede, mediate.
      Catholics do not worship or adore Our Lady, saints or angels.

    Theotokos was declared in Ephesus in 431 CE. It was intended to be an elaboration on the essence of Christ in the wake of Arianism. The declaration was also made in the shadow of the massive temple of Artemis, a female deity that dominated life in Asia Minor at the time. The discussion of Christ quickly evolved into a doctrinal statement about Mary and her essence. As time passed, the cult of Mary rose and fell based on the popes’ varying proclivities. These are facts, and they are added to the reality that Mary is barely mentioned in the New Testament epistles. Even John, who scripture and tradition tells us was charged with her care after the resurrection, doesn’t mention her in his three letters. Why? A please answer that specific question.

    A new Marian Dogma declaring Mary as Co-Redeemer, or Co-Redemtrix will irreparably harm the Church and can only cause more division and ensure that there will never by unity between the Roman Church, the Orthodox, the Lutherans and the rest of Christianity. Don't we think Mary has been elevated enough? She is the Queen of heaven and is considered the dispenser of all graces.
    The following are not even half of her titles.
    Immaculate Conception
    • Immaculate Mary• Immaculate Mother
    • Lady Most Venerable
    • Lady of Mercy• Lady of Victory• Living Temple of the Deity• Mary, Mediatrix of All Graces• Mary, Queen of Angels• Mary, Queen of Peace• Mary, Star of the Sea• Mater Dei• Morning Star• Mother of Divine Grace• Mother of God• Mother of Our Creator• Lady of Victory• Living temple of the Deity• Mary, Mediatrix of All Graces• Mary, Queen of Angels• Spouse Of The Holy Spirit• Gateway Of Heaven.• Queen Of Heaven • Dispenser Of All Grace• Temple Of The Lord. Enough now don't you think.
    The way things are going it won't be long before she will be declared fourth member of the God Head. This Marian snowball has been rolling along gathering more "glory" ever since Vatican I, fed by the alleged apparitions of Fatima and Medjugorje, etc. and have been given almost the same credibility and acceptance as scripture in the minds of many clergy and lay people thus giving growing "legitimacy" to the heretical idea of Mary as Co-Redeemer.
    Private revelations and "tradition" have gotten way out of hand. I have been Catholic all my life, 74 years, and I am having a difficult time because of all this "Marian tradition" that is being thrust upon us. I never was comfortable praying the rosary. Every time we turn around there are new Marian feast days, new Marian devotions novenas and prayers being promoted by Catholic apologists and clergy, that we are expected to embrace, adding to the burden of Catholic guilt if we don't have the inclination to pray rosaries or make novenas. "If you don't pray the rosary you are not on the team."
    I pray every day, and participate in the live online mass almost daily and I do ask Mary and the saint's to pray for us, but I prefer to direct my prayers mostly to God The Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. I guess I am a Catholic protestant, I give more credence and attention to what scripture says than I do to popular piety and private revelation and apparitions.
    I have been barely hanging on through all the scandals and now dealing with this Marian exaggeration. All we hear these days from Catholic apologists is Mary, Mary, Mary..... enough for God's sake.

      @@kilemyers784 Hi brother...thanks for the reply. As a Roman Catholic I do find that being so, it is often difficult or impossible to accept all the new teaching since the council of Trent.
      There is a Lutheran Mariology developed out of the deep Christian Marian devotion on which Luther was reared, he did hold Mary in high esteem as most Lutherans do hold Mary in high esteem, as do Lutherans today teaching the dogmas of the Theotokos and the Virgin Birth. Luther dogmatically asserted what he considered firmly established biblical doctrines such as the divine motherhood of Mary while adhering to pious opinions of the Immaculate Conception and the perpetual virginity of Mary, but along with the caveat that all doctrine and piety should exalt and not diminish the person and work of Jesus Christ. He was definitely opposed to to regarding Mary as a mediatrix of intercession or redemption. and was also opposed to the belief that the merits of the saints could be added to those of Jesus Christ to save humanity. And I tend to agree with him.....we are only saved through the merits of Jesus on the cross. I do however believe that those in heaven are praying for us here on earth.

Her campaign manager approached the Bishop and said, "Madam Pelosi will be attending Mass at your Cathedral, Bishop. As the Mass went on, the Gloria, the Penitential Act, the First Reading, the Psalm, the Second reading, and the Gospel, the Bishop got onto the pulpit, and began to preach. He said, "As most of you are aware this Sunday Morning we are joined by, Nancy Pelosi. For those of you who are unaware, Madam Pelosi is also one of the worst examples of a Catholic Christian. She has repeatedly professed that she is in favor of abortion, homosexuality, and many other policies at odds with her supposed Catholic faith. You're right. She's the Mother of Jesus (Teotokos) and we received Jesus through Mary. Furthermore, according to Jewish law, the Mother of the King is the Queen (but below, not equal to the King) so she deserves respect. We can praise and imitate her for accepting the Will of God unconditionally, and we can ask her to intercede for us TO JESUS, etc.
      This does not obscure the Gospel, is part of the Gospel.
      To sum up, Mary points to Jesus! She's the first servant and closest of all the creatures to Christ, and that's what makes her special and worthy of veneration (not adoration).

I'm only arguing for more careful language so that God's nature is not lessened or compromised.

      Hi David, don't worry... Catholics DO NOT believe Mary can forgive sins or redeem us. That's NOT what this teaching means.
      We just acknowledge that we got Jesus through Mary (literally, physically) and therefore she's the Mother of God (that's what Teotokos means in greek).
      The same way I can ask you to pray for me, we Catholics believe that we can ask the same to the saints in Heaven (since we believe in a God of the living, not the dead, they are alive and can pray for us). That includes Mary and the Saints.
      And since she's the Mother of the King, according to Jewish Law she's the Queen (below the King, not equal) of Heaven and Earth. But she's NOT GOD, and we do not Worship her.
      And Christians have believed that through the centuries since the beginning, including Luther himself! (yes, Martin Luther).
      I know you will probably still disagree, and that's fine. But please, don't say we Worship Mary or anything like that because that's not true.

      @@GustavoAndresHerrera All due respect, remdemptrix is the the feminine form of redeemer. That is a fact. Why does the RCC use a word like that unless they mean that Mary has salvific power? Here is what Pope John Paul says about the RCC's justification of the term: "The Virgin Mary, Mother of Our Savior, was co-worker with Christ in an altogether unique way, such that her own sufferings, united and subordinated to those of Christ, “reached an intensity which can hardly be imagined from a human point of view, but which was mysteriously and supernaturally fruitful for the REDEMPTION OF THE WORLD” (John Paul II, Apostolic Letter Salvifici Doloris, 1984). It is for this reason that we call her “Coredemptrix.” (Sorry, I am not shouting; I added the caps for highlighting.) Additionally, I would take issue with Theotokos, which is a pagan term. Mary gave birth to the redeemer of the world, the messiah, Jesus. She did not give birth to G-d. Father, Son and Holy Spirit always were.

    I am totally open to Mary being "most blessed among women"...being the "Mother of God" (logically it leads to that conclusion). Certainly carrying the Son of God in your womb comes with incredible Blessing. I have no problem with her being "assumed" either.
    But I find it way too large of a hurdle to accept Mary as the Queen of Heaven or the idea that I should have a relationship with her. We have direct instruction from Christ our Lord, the 12 apostles, Luke, Mark and Paul on the Eucharist and Baptism, but Zero...literally nothing... from them concerning Mary. Nothing. It is unfathomable to me that Mary would be given the importance that the Catholic Church gives her without The Lord or any of his apostles mentioning her as someone that is incredibly important to their Faith journey. Nor is Mary been shown historically to play any major role in the early church. She is mentioned no where as a leader in the church while plenty of other women are. Furthermore, Christianity is nothing but the fulfillment of the Jewish faith. Read the OT and you will see no Jewish framework for Mary (meaning praying and having a relationship with someone Dead other than God, being Queen of Heaven, etc.). There absolutely is a Jewish framework for the Eucharist and Baptism, but not for Mary. You can say that she was a "second ark" but that only describes what she carried inside of her womb, such as what was carried inside of the ark. To claim she is Queen of Heaven is a massive leap from that reference.

      Brian:
      You have raised some very good points.
      I'm no expert, but I will try to cover some.
      Mary in the Holy Bible:
      Our Lady is mentioned few times in the scripture, but it is at very important times.
      She is there in the first book and the last.
      Genesis 3:15 (...I will put enmity between you and the Woman. Between your seed and her Seed..."
      Apocalypse 12:1-17 A woman clothed with the sun, with the moon at her feet and a crown of twelve stars..
      The Virgin birth was prophesied by Isiah.
      Some think it was disrespectful for Jesus to address His mother as "woman", but this identifies her as the woman of the Bible.
      She was instrumental in timing His first recorded miracle, even though He said that His "time" had not yet come.
      What "time ?
      The time for Him to reveal Himself and commenced His public life.
      He performed a miracle because His mother asked Him to.
      It was not to heal, to raise someone from the dead, to drive out a demon, but to save a friend from the embarrassment of running out of wine.
      He did this to please His mother.
      Mary was the only other person identified by name in the upper room on the day of Pentecost, so, as well as being present at the birth of Christ, she was present at the birth of the Church.
      Queen of Heaven:
      Jesus often spoke of the Kingdom of Heaven. Ruled by Christ the King.
      Why should there not also be a queen?
      Historically, the King's mother would be venerated as his queen.
      In the O.T. Solomon's queen was his mother, Bathsheeba, not one of his wives. (Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines !!)
      Apocalypse presents her as a queen, and Psalm 45 (or 46, depending on your translation)
      describes the king in heaven with the queen, dressed in gold from Ophir at his right side.
      Just a few things. This is from memory.
      Hope I have it correct.

      Mary's role in the early Church was not one of leadership, but as a mother. She is the model of humility, content to stay in the background.

      She knew that her Son would suffer, and she suffered along with Him.

      The question I would love a Catholic to explain is how why there is literally no mention from Christ, the 12 apostles, Mark, Luke, or Paul that instructs or teaches any ideas on Mary that the Catholic church holds. Literally Nothing. There is on the Eucharist. There is on Baptism. There is on regular church attendance (mass). Nothing on Mary. Why would Christ, the 12 apostles, Luke, Mark, and Paul literally make no mention of her at all? Furthermore, Mary isn't even mentioned as a leader or influential in the early church. You cannot just give someone a title of "Mother" without evidence that she was actually being a "Mother of the Church". Furthermore, what evidence do you have that says Mary was humble and wanted to "stay in the background". Historically, what evidence is there for the claim you make of Mary purposely being humble and staying in background on purpose? Even if that were the case, her humility would have been an example to be modeled (if true) and surely Christ, any of the 12 apostles or Mark would mention her as someone to mimic, admire, model. And yet there isn't one single word from those who were closest to her or knew her best. I can point to account after account after account of Christ's humility...and yet he acted.
      Every description we have from history of "Mothering" is to actively (by your actions) care, nurture, love and protect. Mary may have done that but we have zero historical account from those that were closest to her or knew her best that she was doing that. These same people (Jesus, the 12 apostles, and Mark) do mention other women that are doing those actions of the church. So other than someone telling you that Mary was "Humble", "Chose to purposely be the background" what actual objective evidence would you use to prove such a claim. What I can tell you is there is zero evidence from Christ's words and teaching. Zero evidence for such a claim from any of the 12 Apostles. Zero corroboration of that claim from Mark. Not a word of any Marian Dogma from Luke or Paul. This shows that all whoever does the will of God (this is Jesus speaking and we are supposed to follow the Lord Jesus Christ), is the friend, brother, sister, and mother of Jesus Christ. This is what the Reformation was about. Salvation is too the people, not to a select few Priests.

So when you in the video are going so good when Mary says yes and demons flee is not in any version of the bible or any of its translations. Preaching something out of context and then supporting with another doctrine which you say was discussed by men how is this proving the divinity of Mary.

    Salvation is through Christ and not through any church, especially the Catholic Church. And "Co-Redemptirix'' is a false doctrine just like the Protestant doctrine of ''Sole Fide.'' Mary had nothing to do with salvation nor redeeming the people. She did not suffer like Christ did and was not put to death for the sins of the world. Also, there is no female mediator but Christ is the only mediator between us and the eternal Father. What you are teaching is heresy. Yes, Mary gave birth to the Word of God but that is it. She is not a co-redeemer and never will be. I would like to quote Pope Pius IV from the Council of Trent and he said, ''the saints, who reign with Christ, offer up their prayers to God for men; and that it is good and useful to invoke them suppliantly and, in order to obtain favors from God through His Son Jesus Christ Our Lord, Who ALONE IS OUR REDEEMER'' The Council of Trent declares that Christ alone is the Redeemer. That proves that Mary is not the Co-Redemptrix. Even in the Catechism of the Council of Trent part III, it says, ''Christ the Lord, who alone has reconciled us to the heavenly Father through His blood,'' This infallibly declares that Jesus alone is our Redeemer, not Mary. Folks if you put your faith and hope in anything else besides Christ, you are lost. If you place your faith in the Church you are lost. If you place your faith in some man-made dogma or creed you are lost. If you place your faith in some Protestant denomination you are lost. Place your faith in Christ the Son of the living God.

      For a start, Catholics don't believe Mary is divine. She's not worshipped as God, she isn't part of the godhead, cut it out.
      She is a co-redeemer in the sense that she had the choice whether to bear Jesus or not, and her choice is responsible for the savoir being part of the family of man. Actually there was a heresy group called Collyridianism in the 4th century that made sacrifices to the Virgin Mary and the Catholic Church had to condemn them. And there’s records of the bishop Rome’s preemptive authority from every century starting with Jesus giving this authority to Peter. You have to understand the Old Testament. The Shebna, the succession, the significance of the keys. And this is repeated in writings after the apostles. And there’s the miracle of Our Lady of Lourdes that confirmed the office of the Papacy. So lot of evidence to go off of. And purification after death was always in the Jewish religion that pre-dates Jesus. Not only do we have writings inside and outside the Bible but Jewish religion today still believes in purification after death. Jesus never said there was no purification after death.
