I have attempted to drive an XJ 40 with broken power steering too. You need the strength of Popeye to turn the wheel. Surprised they didn't pump up tyres before moving it.
Great work but watch the tires 220 are rare and expensive ...... I recommend you retrieve them, otherwise you have to ask the jaguar sheet to mount the 225 ...

It's an '88 or '89 judging by the dash. Have a set of those wheels (which were brand-new 'take-offs) that were given to me, but my VDP has the chrome lattice wheels...eventually would like to put "Asteroid" 18" rims on it

Hi i have an immaculate xj40 Daimler here in New Zealand would you be interested in its chassis number? It was purchased brand new in the UK and shipped down here so its never set a tyre on salt roads so it relatively rust free i love it! cheers.
They do ride and drive best on the metric tyres but they are expensive and some sizes are hard to find. I believe classic tyres at Beaulieu can help. I also believe wheels from an X300, the next body shape on, will fit as they share a lot of mechanical parts and the later X300s and X308s had standard wheels...
+Gfix That is what a lot of owners do. Do make sure you keep the original alloys and centre caps though, that style of centre cap was only used on the early XJ40 Sovereign. After that point they were only used on Daimlers so original Jaguar-branded wheel centres are extremely rare now and almost impossible to find...

4 attempts to get the car out, wow. Where did you get your license? And FYI when a car's power steering is not working or a car without power steering it's much easier to turn the wheel when the car is moving.
I prefer the Series 1 - 3 and later XJ's, but this model has aged very well compared to later German cars, especially the mid-nineties S-Class Mercedes, which was quite an ugly car.

gosportjamie It isn't fun trust me! I had one which blew the powered steering hose as I was doing a 3 point turn the car was wider than the street and one way, Thanks to my sat nav. It blew a custom made Pirtex replacement hydraulic hose too. Only fault I ever had with it.

7 years and it still has brakes? Transmission slipping badly
The brakes were stuck on, thats why it rev'd higher, when they had free'd off it drove up the truck fine. To be honest I thought the same.
And there is an old Mark 2 Jag sitting under a carport in Varosha Cypress covered in dust. Been there for decades after UN partitioned the city.
