I was an Army Sniper with the 75th Ranger Rgt First Field Force Vietnam , Carlos wasn't in Nam at the time BUT he was well known by all Branches & much Respected , I did get to meet him at a Interserve Sniper shoot off at Ft Benning Ga. He was the most down to earth man you'd ever want to meet, Not full of him self like a a lot of Snipers get, I think just meeting him was the Highlight of my Military time , To me it was an Honor

Carlos Hathcock shooting birds out of the sky with a 22. at a young age means he learned to lead his crosshairs from youth. Yeah, that man was able to shoot through a scope in his prime within a warfare setting.

Carlos is a legend. Especially for his ability to stay camouflaged and sneak up on the target. While he doesn't have as many kills as someone like Chris Kyle, but his overall skills were amazing

    • @ColtinEddy

He definitely has more he just doesn’t have more confirmed. Chris could just say got 5 and he gets credited for 5 Carlos could kill one and they’d say “well an officer didn’t witness it so no credit”

    • @TonyM1961
      @TonyM1961 3 місяці тому

@ColtinEddy Because Carlos frequently worked alone to avoid detection whereas in modern warfare it's all about teams, spotters, etc which makes witnesses more readily available. Combine that with one being in thick jungle where a kill can be difficult to confirm vs a dry, urban environment where you can see the horizon for miles and it's easy for discrepancy to happ

I knew a Vietnam sniper. He taught a friend of mine how to build his ghillie suit. My friend became unstoppable in paintball with that suit.
I got some Vietnamese medals he got from one of the generals he shot.
He went on to work in some Intel stuff when he got out involving... well... I'd tell you but it might be enough to find him.
He retired and no doubt his son is a great shot.

My kid was getting ready to go to Afghanistan in 2005, also from the Marines in Hawaii. He was originally on a mortar crew after advanced weapons training before going to Hawaii. They decided since part of being on the mortar crew was checking ranges and he was good at it and also an excellent shot, they would give him a scoped M16 and he would be a forward observer and designated marksman. Right before they left, he got a scoped updated M14, the M21. He also did what was said, bought a brand-new Dodge Cummins diesel 3/4-ton pickup, which dad said don't because it wasn't a 4x4, but he's 18 or so and he does it anyway. So, they go, and he ends up off and on hanging with the real snipers, and they like him, and he gets to use their more accurate bolt action guns and does well. So, they do the tour and go back. After a while, they go to Iraq and while doing that and other things, his gun breaks internally and for some reason, no one can fix it, no parts. So, they give him a .50 Barrett rifle that he uses at times. After they come back, he does different things, the cheating thing comes in when training people to do land navigation and they are supposed to sneak up on and capture a simulated command post in a certain amount of time. His guys won because he couldn't tell them what and how to do it, but just said in war, there are no rules. Do the mission as best you can. Then out into civilian life and becoming an EMT/firefighter, then a paramedic/firefighter but also in the National Guard. Since he had experience, they made him the sergeant in charge of the sniper team locally. A year or so later, he and his spotter go to a national match against agencies like the FBI and others, police departments, and military units, and they win. They go to the one next year, the armorer mounted his scope, so the crosshairs were cockeyed just enough to make a difference beyond 200 yards. His partner's comes apart internally. The Leupold rep was there and felt horrible but nothing he could do because when you start, you have to finish with what you started with. they still finish in the top 20. Hathcock was a hero and inspiration for him.

The M21 huh? No, the United States Marine Corps (USMC) has not used the M21 rifle: Weapon Description
      M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle
The basic infantry weapon of the USMC, based on the HK416 by Heckler & Koch
      M40 rifle
The standard sniper rifle of the USMC during the Vietnam War, based on the Remington Model 40x rifle
The M21 was the primary sniper rifle of the U.S. Army until 1988, when it was replaced by the M24 Sniper Weapon System. Some M21s were later used in the Iraq War"
I was a Sniper in the Marine Corps and I was also in the Army the Marines have never used that system.

My dad drove a garbage truck for 30 years in the same town, so inevitably, he got to know a few interesting folks around town. One time, a guy was outside as he pulled up, and they got to talking. He brings my dad inside and shows him a wall of war medals and military-grade weapons, including multiple long-range sniper crossbows from the Vietnam War. Turned out he was a Green Beret assassin who would (also fully alone) crawl into grass fields and wait for weeks at a time for VC commanders to walk outside in range. He said they used crossbows because they didnt have a lot of sniper rifles
and crossbows are silent so they had a better chance to get away.

I've shot those positions before, they are not fun. Hathcock was truly one of a kind - one of the best kinds. To be truly an excellent marksman you learn to fire in between the beats of your heart to prevent your pulse from affecting your aim, as a good shot you learn to fire in between breathes while you still have air in your lungs. Your cheek is on the stock the exact same spot every time, you use the exact same part of your finger to pull the trigger, you keep the exact same grip on the rifle. You have to ignore your muscles cramping, sweat dripping down your face, muscles wanting to move, insects crawling on you etc. When they talk about Hathcock's bubble they aren't lying - nothing else can exist. It's one of the best forms of meditation I've ever done - you have to have awareness and control over every part of your body.

my dad was in vietnam and i grew up on farms in south georgia. I was shooting 44mag and rifles and shotguns by the age of 5. i was trained by him and he was from the sniper ambush squad. he was part of the 101 airborn with 25th infantry div, and he was a tunnel rat... so for folks from vietnam would know what that means. he was there from 67 to 71. Now, im not gonna say he was a good dad or a good person but he taught me how to shoot birds out of the sky with 22 and 223. I could hit anything i was pointed to shoot at and if it was over 500 yards away, by the 2nd shot iron sight, i got it dead center. my dad try to recreate me into what he was... i just left the bad stuff out "later in life" and kept the good in. the part that is crazy... i needed glasses and didnt get them till years later.... that was like cheat codes for me after that. im so near sighted that without glasses... i cant read a road sign more than 20 feet away. so yeah it was a lot of "luke, use the force" till then. how it worked... i cant explain but i started with a 410 with slugs and no sights. just straight barrel and went from there.

OK, In the United states going all the way back to when we were colonies of the British empire, whenever any sort of conflict broke out, we would scramble to put together a sniper training program for that conflict, (basically we treated snipers like a genie in a bottle, that we would only open in time of war,) The Army, Navy, and Marine Corps all did it this way, so after WWI, we once again put it away and closed the bottle, opened it again for WWII, then closed it again, MOST but not all, snipers for the Korean war were in fact WWII snipers since those conflicts were only separated by 5 years of time, so effectively, the U.S. had NO sniper schools active from 1945 till 1965, and like I phones of today, firearms technology has rapidly advanced every year since around 1870, but it FINALLY became clear to at least the Marine Corps, that the absence of an active sniper school, caused them to INCREASE the time of Marine Corps basic training, (BOOT CAMP) from 12 weeks to 16 weeks, and used that extra time for shooting on the ranges to improve ALL Marines skills, they felt that IF war broke out again, each Marines shooting records which was part of their service records, they could find quality candidates for some precision shooting, and to almost everyone's surprise, (Which really should have not surprised anyone,) the very best candidates for the precision shooting school, which later became the Marine Corps sniper course, were in fact the ones who were already very good hunters before they joined the Corps, now I read Carlos Hathcock's book that he wrote about his service about 30 years ago, so this story is one that I have known about for a long time, but I do love Nick's videos, and he did an EXCELLENT job on this story, now I have been a hunter since I was about 8 years old, granted NOT nearly at the level of Carlos Hathcock, but I have come to realize that depending on the situation, the words SNIPER, and HUNTER, are interchangable, because both require all the same equipment and mechanics, the only real difference is, what is your target? other than that, they are the same.

That was a very interesting story but you guys really ruined the reaction by your continuous chattering back and forth to each other about mostly mundane things that made it impossible for me to enjoy the reaction or the story. I hereby promise to never waste my time tuning in to your reactions again.

Hate the talking over the show and interruptions. Especially the STOOPID comments that could have been clarified if you didn’t interrupt. 👎🏻

Love you guys first thumbs down ever. His ads are quick. if you’re going to react to his video in all fairness, you should not fast-forward through his ad so he can get paid while you’re getting paid

@@chrisvibz4753 listen not trying to start a fight. Love both channels I have watched hundreds of videos between the two in my top 10 for sure. Just saying if you’re going to make money off somebody’s video, just give their second time to play to be fair. But we all have opinions.
