  • Woke up today and decided to explore the rarely seen Bangkok Samrong street food markets, an amazing temple and whatever other hidden gems I could find near the Samrong BTS stop. This was a great little area with lots of markets, an animal themed temple, a huge shoppng mall and more. Yes, there will be street food, as always! There are some great little hidden gems in the Samrong area. Was I wrong to go to Samrong? Join me for another day of exploring Bangkok, Thailand.
    I recently moved to Thailand and am beginning to roam the country while documenting my travels here on UA-cam. Join me for my assorted adventures in the many different regions of Thailand.

    Hi Serg, the statue was not a black buddha, actually it was a black monk. Luang Phor Thuad, the famous Thai monk
    Luang Phor Thuad, whose name is sometimes spelled Luang Phor Thuat, lived some 400 years ago in Southern Thailand. He is now famous all over the country for the miracles that he performed. It was said that Luang Phor Thuad turned salt water into fresh, drinkable water on multiple occasions. Near Hua Hin you can find a huge temple complex named Wat Huay Mongkol which is dedicated to this monk.

      Ahhh! Thank you so much for correcting me. I was kind of wondering that it didn’t look like a Buddha at all, and I kind of figured that it probably was a monk as well. I really appreciate you giving me all of that information. From time to time, I make mistakes in my videos because Google is not always good at translating things.

    Serg, you should do a video on your daily routine in Bangkok. Most of us here, are so sick of the 9-5, and get a bit of pleasure watching you do something we wish we could do, but for life reasons are still stuck to the mill stone.
    An honest walk through of what it’s like “a day in life” of Serg in Bangkok.

    5:20 Jackfruit

    I believe the meat balls in your boat noodle were made of pork as they were supposed to better match with the pieces of meat there which, I believe, were blanched or stewed pork.

    Serg, just out of curiosity, in your next video, would you please add the information on the distance you usually walk everyday? It seems your daily walk easily exceed 40km.
    I love the way you make your videos. I watch you and listen to you while I pay attention to the people, the streets and all the places you pass by. It feels like I am really walking along the streets.
    Thank you for bringing so much joy and fun to us.

    • @LifewithSerg
      @LifewithSerg  2 роки тому +2

      Wow, I’d be so dead if I walked 40km. I average abut 8km a day, in general. A day that I big videos like this, it’s usually closer to 13 km. It’s not so much the distance for me, it’s the humidity that wipes me out.
      I need to include a little bit more footage, or B roll as it’s called, while I’m transitioning from one place to another. I keep thinking people find it boring but I think people want to see it to feel like they are there with me.

    👋 Hi, it’s 36 here yesterday too but dry heat. I saw those Giant Jackfruits ( looking like Durian), here in Asian market. I like the idea of taking us around the city on public ride instead of Uber or taxi.

    • @LifewithSerg
      @LifewithSerg  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Sheila! I’m still trying to get used to the heat and humidity. It’s really the humidity that’s the energy drainer. The taxis here are extremely cheap, but I live less than five minutes walk from both the sky train and the underground. They are very convenient to use. Although, it’s definitely cheaper for two people to get a taxi then to go onto the public transportation like that. Unfortunately, the traffic on the surface streets here in Bangkok is so horrible that there’s been times when I’ve been able to walk faster than I could’ve held a taxi when it was less than 2 km away.

    Chao Pho Thap Shrine is a sacred shrine that has been revered by Samrong people for a long time. Every year there will be a parade, festival and celebration.

    Ok, thoroughly impressed with your bravery. Getting lost in Asia is …I have no words. I contacted a travel agency and had a sample itinerary for a 3 week stay, but it had nothing like what I see in your videos. So I kinda halted everything, I also made a big mistake, I told people at work I was going to Thailand. As expected, not one positive comment. Even my closest friends, who have never gone anywhere in Asia cautioned me about all the dangers. Ugh. Love your videos!

      Yeah, I tend not to listen to people when they have no experience in the subject matter they’re talking about. I’ve had several negative comments like that for people who have never steped foot in Thailand.
      I actually met one of my subscribers here about a month and a half ago. She was an American woman who was in her mid-60s. She has spent the last six months traveling the world alone. I was blown away by her bravery. She was a normal person, like you and me. I was blown away by her desire to travel and see things. She had been to so many different places on her own!

    Very nice video, you hit a lot of neat spots, great food and the best narration. The soup is pork and you nailed the organ meats. They have a few nice thai phrases to request no organ meat. Also, for 30 it's Sam Sip, like. you sip a tea. Sam Sip :). One more pro tip, throw a face towel in your camera bag. A real towel dries fast, removes the lovely sweat itch and will last all day. Also, forget about toilet paper. 5 years without it, it's a better life. Here toilet paper is for restaurants :)

Whenever possible, I try to travel as late as I can get away with.

    The fresh market you stumbled upon in Samrong District is one of the few very large fresh foods market in BKK. These markets are a favorite of restaurant owners. As for that noodle dish, I'm pretty sure its the ever popular Boat Noodle with blood broth. Boat Noodles are delicious in both beef and pork versions. I usually eat the pork version, but I ate beef much more a few years back and I do think the beef version tastes better to me. But that's if you like beef though, as many people in the country do not eat beef for religious reasons. I'm really looking forward to watching your motorcycle trip around the country. Regarding long trips and motorcycles, I would prefer a heavier bike. I use to ride a motorcycle in BKK for a few years as traffic is incredible as you probably already know. My choice was a Honda NSR 150 or it's equivalent to the CBR 150 today. It's got clutches and I think it is much better than automatic bikes when you need the speed quickly. Anyway, too much rambling on on my part. Have a great trip!!!

      @LifewithSerg  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah I’m sure this had blood in it, but I couldn’t taste it so I really enjoyed it.
      As for the motorbike tours, I’m really looking forward to those. I want quite a few motorcycles including a couple of the BMW R 1200 GS adventure bikes, a Ducati Hyper Motard SP, and several Honda 600cc sport bikes. I also owned three of the Honda Grom, I believe they’re known as the MSX here in Bangkok. Definitely one of the funnest little bikes I’ve ever ridden. As much as I love the fast powerful machines, I prefer something a little bit slower in this country. The slower I go, the less likely I will be to sustain major injuries in the event of an accident. I also like the idea of an automatic motorbike so I can shoot video while I ride. I’m not going to buy one, I’m just going to rent small motorbikes. The tours will not start in Bangkok, because that would be just too long of a ride. I’m going to either fly or take a train or a bus to wherever I’m going and then start the tour from there.

    Your choice of music in the temple scene is soooo good!
    2:40 The 12 Chinese zodiac years of birth. The banner is for people who were born in the year opposite the current year = bad luck year.

      Well I’ve owned, and ridden, many much larger motorcycles, I’m not in a big hurry here and the slower I go the less likely I am to have a major accident. It would be really cool if I could find a 250cc dual sport. I’m sure somebody makes one here. GPX or Royal Enfield does, as far as I know.

      @@LifewithSerg Yes, boat noodle soup always has blood in it, or else, it isn't a boat noodle soup. The broth was a dark brown which is indicative of blood in the broth. I've commented in your past vlogs about blood in the boat noodle soup and I did mention that you won't notice it in the broth. I order boat noodle here in SoCal all the time and I can never taste the blood. It makes the broth rich and so tasty! You should go BOAT NOODLE ALLEY at Victory Monument in Bangkok. It's a food market where there are several boat noodle vendors. The portions are very small so most customers would buy 5-10 bowls of boat noodles. Back in 2015, each bowl cost about 10-15 baht. You should check it out!
