Her name is too fun to say- Tarja Turunen (roll the 'r's). Tarja is a sweetheart. The most important to thing to know about her leaving Nightwish is that it was a long time ago. I think all involved have grown wiser and forgiven much of the past. They've gone on to amazing success and she's had a wonderful solo career! This is the absolute best version of this song that I've ever heard! Marko is a superstar in this one and I love to see him shine!
I had heard and loved this performance before watching the Phantom of the Opera (the movie). The movie disappointed me, after this 😂 And my husband got hooked on Nightwish after seeing this. We both love Marko and we'll be seeing him and Tarja in September, in one of the oldest venues in Berlin no less. Super excited. Have you listened to the song Left on Mars that they released in March? It's super cool, definitely not Nightwish, but still worth a listen!
That gig in September should be pretty epic and special. Am sure you and hubby will have an AWESOME time! You never know, they may even perform this song?
This concert was the last stop on the tour for the 5th album, Once. 21 Oct 2005, Tarja's last Nightwish concert, all the guys knew, but she didn't. They gave her a letter, and later posted it online. She wrote a response. Both of those are still on NW's web site. She has gone on to a long and successful solo career. Song #5 in a 18 song set. Yep, 17 years, Floor and Marko never sang it together. This is my favorite version of this song, because of Marko. Arrangement by Tuomas, Andrew Lloyd Weber has seen this, and loved it. Tarja has an awesome voice as well, to hear her on a Nightwish original, Try "The Siren" "Planet Hell", "Nemo" , and the ballad "Sleeping Sun", all from this same show. The other cover here, more of a tribute, is Marko singing the Pink Floyd song "High Hopes" TMI on your escape mechanism, didn't need to know that. 🤣
High Hopes has been on my list pretty much since my first NW reaction, due to me commenting on Empu having a similar solo style to Dave Gilmour. One day, it will happen 😁
A good about it is that Tarja has played it many times in her solo career- I've seen it live myself a couple of times. And now she's performing with Marco. Tarja's voice is incredible and being there as she performs is even better.
Hi Melvin! Good reaction, thank you! It was jear you comparing Emppu and D Gilmour, because in this same concert Emppu plays Gilmours part in their high hopes-version better than the man himself. Sincerely Kaisa from Finland
It is said, that this duet version with the original singer Tarja and Marco, Andrew Lloyd Webber prefers to any other of the hundreds that have been made since his original creation. The way Tarja Turunen reaches a series of very high notes, is sensational. Marco Hietala as ‘The Phantom’ absolutely nails the part. Together they are without doubt the most dynamic pairing in these roles ever.
@@melvinthinksMarko and Tarja recently reunited and are touring together a bit. Marko released a song a few months back called Left On Mars featuring Tarja. You may want to check I out. It's totally different from nw and is amazing
Well, I jumped on it because it's Nightwish, and one of the best renditions of this song that I have ever heard. Tarja is fantastic, of course, and what can you say about Marko's slimy, grimy Phantom except that it is such a good interpretation of this character. Thanks for doing this reaction, Melvin!
I'm trying to think when I pre-warned you about wanting to do this track? 🤔 And deliberating whether I went with Tarja or not. Glad I got your input 👍😊🙏
I know exactly which interview you watched :D Tuomas and Tarja started making music together when they were about 19 years old, and I like how they ended up challenging each other -- Tuomas had to compose music for a different voice than he'd expected, and Tarja had to figure out how to make her classical singing work with this kind of music. Neither of them ended up stuck in a certain box and in the end, I think both of them became very singular musicians. "The Siren - End of an Era" from this concert is another great one with both Marko and Tarja on vocals and it has a piano solo :)

By the way, Tarja has said that she doesn’t care how you pronounce her name.... so no need to worry😊 Tarja didn’t part ways with the band in good terms, but Marko and Tarja cleaned the table in 2017.
