@@Mob135 you’re severely underestimating this Ireland team. We have much stronger depth than 2019. We have world class players in almost every position. Our bench is extremely strong. The sheer number of quality players that couldn’t even make this Irish 6 nations squad is crazy. We have a new coach, new systems, better structures and our gameplan is still adapting. Andy Farrell isn’t making the same mistakes he saw working under Joe Schmidt in the previous two world cups. He’s calm, collected & he’s giving the camp and players a healthier atmosphere and giving them the freedom to express themselves more. No one is getting ahead of themselves and the entire country is behind them. We are not perfect yet either, we are still building and a work in progress.
On the other hand South Africa seemed rudderless and completely predictable back in November and it appeared that their gameplan looked avoid of anything that would warrant any form of brilliance. They haven’t changed it up since 2019 and that could well be their downfall. Look at England under Eddie Jones. The same thing happened with them. He became to rigid and didn’t bring in new players and didn’t change the gameplan, ultimately that made England look a lot more predictable and teams found out how to beat them. Same with South Africa & New Zealand to an extent. It appears like Erasmus & Nienaber have run out of ideas and the players can feel it. Of course they’ll improve but teams like Ireland, France & Scotland are definitely in a far better place at the moment and are continuing to get stronger. We’ll have to wait and see though won’t we. I’m quietly optimistic that we will do well in this WC because we have been putting in the hard work for the past 3 and a half years.

I worry about our team and coaching set up if this is the display we get. I can’t blame the players, I’m sure there is huge pride to wear the jersey and represent your country. But the whole of the Scottish set up, coaching and management is atrocious, disappointing and quite frankly embarrassing. How can you prepare players to defend like this

Completely agree. Delighted with an Irish win but devastated for the young Scottish lads. Absolute confidence killer. Could it be the Scottish Rugby Union are pouring all their resources into the senior team and neglecting the future. If the RFU further restrict the criteria for foreign born players in the future Scotland will be in real trouble. I understand success with these players will generate more interest in the game from the public now, but at what cost. Its not foreign players Scotland needs but more foreign coaches.

    • @adamcoyne1315

Completely agree. The Irish first team is very good because they nurture and help young players with growth. Look at the seniors on the weekend, so many irish injuries and the lads that came on did just as well a job. However, even with the irish quality being so good no team concedes 12 tries because of the players. To be that bad there is something fundamentally wrong with the game plan and coaching.

Well that was embarrassing for Scotland. An annihilation. I thought they were looking a little better this year after the opener was close against England and beat Wales but the top two have smashed them. For Ireland a win next and it would be 3 grand slams in 5 years. In 2020 they were 3 from 3 with the triple crown in the bag before covid cancelled the tournament. That is consistent excellence and can only mean a rich pipeline of players are continuing to filter through. Exciting times.

Munster started similarly and had a BP after 20 minutes but then let Scarlets back in the game. Result they shared 13 converted tries with Munster shading it 7-6. The U20s showed how to build on a great start and just kept on scoring and n the end won by 12-1 on the try count. Irish rugby is in rude health.

Very good performance from the Irish and they can only play the opposition however Scotland were at times bordering on pathetic, not sure how you can be that poor if you are being coached properly and you are putting in maximum effort, don't believe they are .

It's hard to believe that rugby in Ireland isn't the people's favourite sport.its 4th. After galeic games, then football, rugby.
They have some athletes. It's scary.

Not really sure you can argue that football is bigger, because Ireland aren’t very good at that, and League of Ireland is a tiny league compare to the English and even the Scottish leagues.

Head on head. The attacker is the one moving towards the defender faster in most cases ..but it's the defenders fault the attacker twists his body position in milli seconds. Rugby turning into a never ending turn style of yellow and red cards

This was a shameful result. We all know the Scottish are a mess and they don't have the skills to compete, but they could at least be fit. Some of the Scottish players were out on their feet after 20 minutes. A young back row player shouldn't look like a fat old man, terrible. They seem to missing the basics. Slow off their feet lazy getting back a total shambles if I'm honest.
I watched the game in a bar in Edinburgh a few lads had Scottish jerseys on, after 20 minutes they turned their backs on the game.
