You should start at the beginning of the album and do Chokehold, Aqua Regia, The Apparition and Rain. Just know that this album is the third in a trilogy and the final song Euclid has easter eggs to ao many previous songs from their discography. At LEAST listen to The Night Does Not Belong To God before listening to Euclid. It wraps up the trilogy beautifully.

For a first listen your analysis was great! I don't think their songs are written for ppl to fully grasp at first listen. That would be boring. Though there are interpretations largely agreed on by most fans, nothing is ever confirmed by the band. That's the beauty of it. It's poetry; and with allegories and sound they paint a picture that to everyone may look slightly different, which allows it to become so personal.
Happy you'll listen to it again despite the screaming, unlike Ascensionism 😅 maybe give that one another try in a month or so. After all it also describes in such a genius way a journey of reflecting on and attempting to make peace/break free from a toxic relationship (my take on it). And the harsh parts are expressing the pain and anguish while doing so.
Such a banger, i'd be interested in seeing your reaction to Dark Signs, but the drumeo playthrough video that their drummer II did.

Your analysis and laymans terms i think is on point here. Phosphorescence is like bright colours without anything being on fire or hot so all the positive without the negative
And "im a winged insect you're a funeral pyre" is basically a fancy like a moth to a flame
"Grow back your sharpest teeth you know my desire" is a callback to their song chokehold with the desire bit but also the offering which has "so take a bite" a few times (which in that songs context i see it as early days of the toxicity of letting them do what they want even though it damages him)
I will travel far beyond the path of reason - will keep justifying trying to get back to the good "take me back to eden (paradise)"

Incredible song. I think Vessel does a great job of writing songs with such beautiful descriptions and open interpretations that listeners can interpret it in a way meaningful to them, and use it to heal their own trauma.
The album is in my opinion one of the best song writing examples, truly art in every sense. They smashed it with the visualisations too.
Hard to put them in any genre, it feels like it plays down what they bring to the table.
I think Aqua Regia is very much your style. But I would recommend Chokehold, Rain or Euclid as interesting songs to hear.
