It may be helpful to home inspectors & consumers if you mentioned that the NFPA 211 requires a level 2 inspection for all real estate transactions. CSIA certified chimney sweeps are trained to perform these inspections, which include a video scan of the inside of the chimney or flue. Other than that, great video guys. Some good information in there.
Did this guy really call this an "insert"? Really? It is not an insert, it is a fireplace. It is a factory-built fireplace or a pre-fabricated fireplace. An insert is a device "inserted" into an existing fireplace.
Misleading - Just wasted 10 minutes of my life watching this video titled fireplace and CHIMNEY inspections only to see it's just fireplace inspections and they disclaim the chimney part towards the end of the video.
Hi, Daniel. Home inspections do not include chimneys. This video was produced for home inspectors by home inspectors. And home inspections do not include chimneys, flues, or interior components of the chase.
Boy, this guy sure seems awfully nervous to me. He talks really fast, twitches and calls it a "chimney scam". way too many red flags for me to trust what is is saying. WOW!
Thanks for the feedback, Rick. Home inspectors feel very uncomfortable in front of a video camera. They're just not used to doing a video presentation.
Mike might not come across the screen as Cary Grant, but we’re here for something different-information, which he has plenty of. As a licensed home inspector, I watch these videos for information, and I always learn something from Mike, Nick and all the others who contribute to the Internachi videos. Thanks Guys
What is the minimum distance that the hearth should come out on the second chimney that had the bigger opening. Is it 22 inches?
Good question. The answer is in www.nachi.org/inspect-fireplace-stove-chimney-course.htm

Thank you.
Very nicely done. Many thanks! I learned a lot.
Thank you, Black Swan. You may be interested in the chimney course we have at www.nachi.org/inspect-fireplace-stove-chimney-course.htm

Good comment.
A snake cam is like 110 $. I've used them on chimneys works great.
Yeah, I have one that's for short-distance looks, and they make them like 20-30 feet long too. Camera scopes are awesome, Wes.
I would like to make an appointment with u if possible. In Sacramento

Thanks for this information...very very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
can you run a chimney camera scope up the chimney or does it have to be from the roof.
Using gravity is easier.
In my opinion, camera inspection from inside is preferable as there is generally less ambient light on my monitor.
