This is absolutely an anti-war anthem; it is a cry for humanity. How do we avoid war if we don't acknowledge one another as fellow human beings, each with wonderful and unique attributes as well as commonalities? That is the first step to peace.
@@murtheblur But it is our uniqueness that makes us human. You’ve both entirely missed the point of the song and proven you don’t deserve Pentatonix. Get the chip off your shoulder.
Guys you REALLY have to react to their cover for "the sound of silence". The emotions there are unbelievable! They truly did justice for the "Imagine" right here, but also for "the sound of silence"!❤
The first card was Mitch as LGBTQ, he then passed that card to Scott who is also LGBTQ, and also Man, he passed the common identity of Man to Avi, who also identifies as Jewish and American, who passes American to Kevin, who also identifies as Black and Christian, he then passes Christian to Kirsti who idenfies as Christian, Latino, and a Woman.
Kevin is often overlooked as a vocalist, because of his usual role in the group, but he is a talented musician, and a phenomenal vocalist in addition to being a percussive phenom. He is a powerhouse, and his solo projects are nothing to sleep on. His version of "Down" definitely needs you to watch it. You will be blown away. Bring extra socks!! The ones you wear will be knocked off! Lol
Look up Kevin’s video where at around 16 Kevin is already an accomplished musician. Watch Kevin’s Cello work. He is not over hyped. Each one of this group is terrific.
what's amazing about Kevin is that he started learning to sing AFTER joining Pentatonix. He didn't think of himself as a singer but because of the other members, he decided to take lessons and grow his ability to sing. The man can learn to do anything but that's something I really respect is that he had the courage/confidence to learn how to sing and sing with 4 VERY accomplished singers.
The words showing on the card while it was passed is what they have in common and share, the words they flipped and showed without passing are identities they have that they don’t share. I believe this was supposed to show how they have similarities, but are still very different from each other and despite their differences they’re all human and can come together harmoniously…..like we all should
Music is a memory 'retrieval' cue. It can even reach through dementia, it has such immense holographic properties of affecting many different types of memory storage capabilities. From personal experience, emotions, physical location, etc that connect to when and how the piece was responded to. I saw wonderful use of it by a master musician I met, Tony Piazza, who applied it to aid mental institution patients.
The way you ACCURATELY got everything about this video, even how the Wall of Sound was them each riffing individually and then at the end coming back together...I can't hit thumbs up enough times. Someone else suggested The Prayer and I cannot second that recommendation enough. I'm also super partial to New Rules x Are You That Somebody.
THIS. Nobody else (reactor or commenter) I saw seems to talk about this. That part always gets me so much. It's about the beauty born from being together. But at the same time every one of them retains their individuality and you can distinguish each contribution. At the beginning it sounds almost painful to me, as if they were trying to make themselves heard separately and too each other. But then they merge in a beautiful wall of sound. I feel like so many people miss this part, it's great to see it discussed.
@@fedechan6325 The wall of sound is just a name for the effect you get when they all sing together, hitting every high, low note and everything inbetween continuously :) Like around 20:58 It's those long parts where every second is continuously covered in a smooth stream of harmonies. Usually there are "gaps" in sound (they only sing the bass, or there is a high-pitched solo, or there are pauses). Then they all harmonize together you get hit by a "solid wall" of sound (all sounds, no gaps, no pauses xD)
As i sit here phone in hand my 74 year old self it amazes me that anyone would say they are unfamiliar with the Beatles but it also fills me with pleasure to see all you young folks opening themselves up to the music of the past and being so insightful. Great reactions.
This was a great reaction!! I would suggest doing “Sound of Silence” next, originally by Simon & Garfunkel! It has their signature “bell tones.” It’s definitely my favorite version of the song! ❤️
I am so glad you caught the meaning that they were putting out there. No matter what label the world wants to put on us and how we all have our own voice that needs to be heard, we are at the end of the day, only human and need to be treated as equally important. They used their talents to beautifully make a picture of how this is a reality that can and should be a part of our everyday life.
I’d LOVE to see you guys check out some of Kevin’s solo work. He is incredibly talented, he blows me away every time. Kevin Olusola - “Down” - you won’t be disappointed!
Pentatonix is just completely out of this world! I highly HIGHLY suggest you react to their cover of "The Prayer," because if you think you are impressed now, just wait until you hear that cover. (You'd also get to hear a lot of Mitch which I think ya'll would appreciate.) Their live performance of this is amazing as well! On another note, I absolutely adore your content and look forward to seeing you do more PTX in the future.
Not only can Kevin sing and beatbox but he is an amazing chellist and just before joining Pentatonix had just passed his exams to enter medical school. I’m convinced that their talents know no bounds.
fun fact: I'm sure someone has mentioned it before, but Pentatonix's name is based off the musical term "pentatonic scale" which is a scale with 5 notes per octave. love your reactions, looking forward to more!
I love Pentatonix and I have been thinking about getting tickets for their performance Sep 29th at the Hollywood Bowl. I just recently listened to Imagine and I was so moved, I bought tickets right after I heard this song. Thank you Pentatonix and I cannot wait to see you in person in 14 days! Peace
You have to do their version of Kiiara’s Gold next - you’d think that was too complex to do a cappella… until PTX grab hold of it. Loving your work gents
The signs are their identities and also what they have in common. So each one they pass on is their common trait and the others are their unique traits
You are the first reactors I saw commenting about the meaning behind the "wall of sound". THANK YOU for this. I feel like so many people gloss over it. Pentatonix were the winners of the a capella competition, the Sing Off's season 3. You should check it out. Then you need to introduce yourselves to season 4's winners, Home Free. I suggest starting with End of the Road.
Since your on this Pentatonix journey I think you need to check out Scott and Mitch's duo subunit group they have together called superfruit.. they did a cover of Katy Perrys song Rise it's so amazing! The cover also features Brian Justin crumb, Mario Jose and Mary Lambert who are all amazing vocalists
I cry every time I still see this one. How they are individually and how they share their similarities and in the end all are human! Better than the original and more needed now than ever. I loved your faces as you "see" what the message is. Thank you!
This brings tears to my eyes every time. Five people, different in so many ways, coming together to make something so beautiful and meaningful. Just imagine what we, as a people, could do - could create - could accomplish - if only we celebrated our differences instead of hating each other because of them.
The harmony is what gives me goosebumps. Avi's voice is so beautiful. And Mitch... he is a unicorn. :) one of a kind. I wonder if it's possible for the entire world of humans sang in unison one long beautiful note! Blended as one. Man, woman and child.
I just love the way you break down the song and it's meaning and your soft spoken communication allowing for each other to listen and respond. it's a breath of fresh air.
How they are related and how they are different. They are what we should strive to be. Gay, straight, Male, Female, Black, White, Latina, Christian, Jewish, showing that individually they are strong but together magic can be created!! That was magical! Thanks guys.
When they’re passing the signs that say the same thing, it means that they have those things in common and in the end, even though they all have differences, they are all human.
Beatles music will live forever. your children and your children's children will always know who the Beatles were. Pentatonix did an amazing job with this song.
Recommend their cover of The Prayer. To me, this is an amazing upgrade from the Dion /Bocelli version. I believe this might be their best work. If you don’t feel this version, then you’re not human.
It's not nice to break reactors who are not truly ready for that. But it is highly recommended. If you can handle watching the original, which sucks, the original singer had to use a computer to be to get the sound, Mitch shows you how it is done, vocally. So the PTX version is the upgrade.
Always here for "Gold." There's a lot to watch for, though, and a number of reactors aren't up to the task. Would love to throw down the gauntlet for these guys!
Amazing reaction guys. No truer words have been ever sung. PTX always adds their upgrade, beautiful. The world needs to hear these words !! In the end we all bleed red, my brother, that makes us all human.
I really love your insightful reactions. You are extremely thorough with your pre-watching research, and I love that about you! Keep up the good work! :)
A couple of recommendations for beautiful 5 part harmony Run to You ( PTX original) or cover of Can't Help Falling in Love. To see their amazing live performance Popspring 2016, 3 original songs and The Evolution of Michael Jackson.
You are so right about "perspective". And, there is no better expression of that perspective than the one Carl Sagan gave after seeing the image of Earth from the Voyager spacecraft. It goes: “Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand. It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.” ― Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space
I would like to thank you gentlemen for noticing the "Wall of Sound" the way I have. I have watched several reactions on this song and you are the one to have viewed that section as a representation of the message of the song. Thank you for having such open eyes and open hearts about this songs message.
So agree! For me, that wall of sound has always been a metaphor for a main theme in the song. It's the distinctly unique PTX voices coming together to create those intricate and beautiful harmonies. Similarly, it's our differences that give us strength when we unite as a human family. Inspired!
Exactly! I always adore how thoughtfully that part was arranged. Not only do they come together, but even when they are all doing very separate parts, they still make beautiful music. Differences is not bad and when done together it is magical!
I appreciate how thoughtful you two are. You pointed out a couple of things about the song and the PTX video that I hadn't thought of before. BTW, this is one of the PTX videos where the visuals can detract from full appreciation of the music at first hearing so that may be why you didn't feel the chills until the second hearing. Those chills happen to people who have an emotional response to music when something in the music surprises them. That triggers a physical response similar to what your caveman ancestors felt when suddenly hearing a possibly dangerous animal coming through the forest.
I really enjoy your style. You don’t talk loudly during the performance. You speak quietly and respectfully which enhances the music. I really appreciate that. Great job . New subscriber.
I really believe down in my soul that John Lennon was watching them record their version from heaven, and saying they understand what he was saying!! A beautiful song from the mind of a musical genuis!!!
Voted the best song ever written, I can't believe you guys struggled to remember this magnificent masterpiece. And PTX upgrades perfection. I cried, as usual. 😢
I have been a Pentatonix fan from the beginning watching them on The Sing Off. Even after hundreds of listens I still get chills listening to their music but this song makes me legitimately sob.
You said it! They are VERY diverse as a group. They were showing how they are diverse but they also have many things in common, the most important being we all share the identity of being part of the Human race. No matter what separates us, we all have that one thing in common. Every time they pass the cards they are showing that they both have that in common. LOVE THE MESSAGE. They are such an amazing group of people, truly some of the most humble and accepting individuals. Thanks again guys, you seriously ROCK!
Thanks for another great reaction! I loved hearing John Lennon live. My take on the group passing the cards is not just each individual sharing their personal identities, but also highlighting those parts of themselves that they share with one another- how they are connected one to another and therefore, one to the whole, ending in the ultimate connection between us all.
It's a shame that people can not get along in this world, you will be touched even more when Pentatonix sings this song!!get the paper towel you're going to need it ❤❤
you guys double aced it, your comment about kevin singing because they wanted to include him in the equality is the first time a reactor has observed that, and it hit me-why didn;t i think of that. great job guys. you are the best.
Mitch started with their identity and passed it to Scott who also identifies with that word. Then he flips the card to reveal another word and passes it to Avi, and so on. So the word passed to them is one that identify as/that they are. I hope I explained that well.
Also I 100% recommend Aha! Singapore, The Star Vista. I could watch it all day and never get sick of it. Just remember Kevin is putting his cello Beyoncé away when the song starts, so he does join in, you just never see him.
I just love you guys, the way you speak ,your interpretations, although you guys are identical twins, your opinions are very different , spoken so beautifully , yes “ at the end of the day” we are all humans & whom are we to judge, not certain if you guys reviewed “The Prayer” it’s a must !!’once grandma approved , stay blessed
Another great video as always guys! This Pentatonix video always reminds me that as individuals, we are unique and different, but when we as a group get together, we are powerful and we are one. Whether we like it or not, we all share a common bond, we are the human race and maybe, one day, we'll live as one.... Peace and Happiness to all!
Hello Jared and Jordan, The cards held by each singer showed their own traits, and then when they passed the card to the next person, it showed the trait that they have in common with that person. The message is that we are all unique, have our own traits, but we also have so much in common with each other, and in the end we are all the same - human. PTX has excelled again with their vocal mastery, stellar solos, layering of voices, crescendo and the wall of sound, and taken an epic song released over 50 years ago (1971) and brought it right into today.
The really are the definition of diversity, in that they all have things in common, but are still all very different. Each one brings their uniqueness to the group to create on incredible piece of music. It's uniqueness and oneness personified.
As a 68 year old Pentaholic, thank you for re-introducing John Lennon's music and lyrics to a whole new generation. He was a brilliant man who was taken from us far too soon (murdered in 1980). The lyrics of Imagine are timeless.
I love your guys’ reactions so much. The research and genuine care you guys put into these videos is amazing. Please react to Can’t Help Falling in Love by PTX!❤️
Yes identifying themselves and also showing what they have in common. This is the absolute best reaction I have ever seen of this song. You guys get it.

He wanted peace but a fan shot and killed him on his way into his hotel??
I really love your insightful reactions. You are extremely thorough with your pre-watching research, and I love that about you! Keep up the good work! :)
A couple of recommendations for beautiful 5 part harmony Run to You ( PTX original) or cover of Can't Help Falling in Love. To see their amazing live performance Popspring 2016, 3 original songs and The Evolution of Michael Jackson.
BEST message ever!!
You are so right about "perspective". And, there is no better expression of that perspective than the one Carl Sagan gave after seeing the image of Earth from the Voyager spacecraft. It goes:
“Look again at that dot.
To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.”
― Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space
Unity through Diversity! Imagine!
Beautifully reacted to and analyzed. Great job on this masterpiece!
Thank you so much!
PTX delivers this important song with deep intensity, heart and power. Amazing voices, and a lasting message, just as meaningful today! :)
Very powerful message well done.
Thank you… thank you for contributing to and sharing; ‘Imagine.’ my absolute favorite Pentatonix cover performance.
And at the end the BLENDING of EACH voice brought a beautiful sound. What if we ALL BLENDED and sung together?!!!!! THINK ABOUT IT💖
I too have the chills up my arms of absolute Love & Hope🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Another great reaction. Love how you guys break it down. Now, on to The Sound of Silence. Another great song 😊
Love your reactions. So thoughtful and perfectly articulated. You are the PTX of reactors!
Well put!
Wow, thank you! Thats a HUGE compliment!
Jared & Jordan, thank you for your reaction to PTX and their cover of the Image. They are all amazing with their voices.
Well did you get the chills,I call them goosebumps plus tears😢 you have that right guys!!
I truly enjoyed your reactions to this beautiful Pentatonix video and to John Lennon's video. The messages are still relevant after all these years.
It's a shame that people can not get along in this world, you will be touched even more when Pentatonix sings this song!!get the paper towel you're going to need it ❤❤
Grew up listening to this song! Can't wait to hear this version of it 🥰
You get it guys. Thx for reacting to this masterpiece performance. Loved it! Can’t wait for your next PTX performance. They never disappoint.
can't wait for you guys to do this one. it is the one i judge reactors on-so simple but oh so complicated. you will make my day
you guys double aced it, your comment about kevin singing because they wanted to include him in the equality is the first time a reactor has observed that, and it hit me-why didn;t i think of that. great job guys. you are the best.
I judge reactors by this one too. It's amazing that some just don't "get it".
John would have been proud.
Ive NEVER heard this during a new years celebration. Thanks for reacting to this! Brother in white shirt is absolutely gorgeous.
This is such a powerful song and they just took it up a notch. And the wall of sound is amazing! Thanks for reacting to this!
I have heard them sing this song over 100Xs and I still get goosebumps all over
I just love you guys, the way you speak ,your interpretations, although you guys are identical twins, your opinions are very different , spoken so beautifully , yes “ at the end of the day” we are all humans & whom are we to judge, not certain if you guys reviewed “The Prayer” it’s a must !!’once grandma approved , stay blessed
You are one of a very few reactors to realize they are doing with their voices what was seen on the cards. They are all different but the same
Another great video as always guys!
I enjoyed your reaction so much. Please watch their cover of the prayer.
Sharing it to the world. Everyone is a one person together.....
We appreciate you Angie!! ❤️ we will definitely have to get to this one. Thanks!
Yes identifying themselves and also showing what they have in common.
This is the absolute best reaction I have ever seen of this song. You guys get it.
I love your research and very thorough discussion around both performers and song. You are the only reactors of music that have such an approach on UA-cam.
Thank you for reacting to another Pentatonix video!! This video chokes me up and brings tears to my eyes. I love their heartfelt message at the end.
I LOVE your reactions. PLEASE react to Pentatonix “The Prayer”. It will blow you away and again, a song that unites us.
