    Since the making of this video, Levoit has removed all marketing materials claiming that Core series units have a true HEPA filter. For this reason, we would no longer put them in the A tier.

    Very nice videos and honest reviews. I am writing to you just to talk about the filters order and their lifespan. My background is chemical engineering just to mention. The most correct way to place filters is mesh, hepa and then carbon. Why's that? Activated carbon's surface area will more drastically decrease with dust than the hepa and gases will not stick. So proper way is to filter all particles and then pass the gases through the carbon. I don't know if this is counter intuitive. Another more interesting issue is the prefilter. Fine mesh vs more coarse like levoit's. Fine mesh filters are used to protect equipment like the fine mesh filters found in dryers. Also both have the same performance if equipment protection is not vital. Why? Because the mesh doesn't do the actual filtration! The mesh is there to build dust layers and these exact layers are the filter which makes it efficient. That's filtration 101 btw. So another thing is mesh filter cleaning. HEPA will clog faster if the mesh filter is regularly cleaned since it will not filter as efficiently. Let me know if you have any questions

      So which air purifier do you recommend I get?
      I live in a 3-story 1800 sqft townhouse which is long but pretty narrow. Half of the bottom floor (living area) has almost 25ft to the ceilings, while the rest of the house is 10-12ft to the ceiling. Although there are quite a few different rooms, 99% of my time in the house is spent in my home office, my bedroom or the living area with 25ft-ish ceiling.
      I don't really care about price, I just want the best, while still having good value in mind. DB and watts are of lesser concern, although everything of course matters to some extent. But air purification obviously is the most important.
      It's a jungle to find the best air purifier so I greatly appreciate your advice.
      Thanks in advance!

      @@tolisl5013I have used several different types of air purifiers and am leaning towards the medify 45, the reason is it's well-balanced well-priced and I will be installing one in the bedroom one in the office one near the front door and one near the back door my house is just over 2,000 square feet and just an FYI the back door is kind of in the kitchen so that's why. The rationale is CFM does matter because if it's not pushing air then it's not cleaning air however what you also need to consider is the quality of the filtration I recommend watching a video by a guy that tested 78 air purifiers in 2023 and looking at his graphs when he burned incense near the end of the video. He breaks down the air cleaning quality of the purifiers themselves and you can do a little basic math to figure out that medify is actually twice as powerful as all the other ones that he listed which are not included in this video here today. The reason I run air purifiers in that many is because my wife suffers from asthma and pretty bad allergies I have to take her to the ER once a year and I'm sick of it

    this man certainly loves his 5500-2. one thing i wish you would've mentioned is the ionization feature(s). some of them are on by default, which makes them worse in my opinion. the blueair units don't even let you disable it at all.

    • @michaelmarin7967
      @michaelmarin7967 Рік тому +13

      Air Purifiers with an ionization feature are made to only output safe levels of ozone (nowhere near the minimum amount of ozone that is considered unsafe). Some air purifiers having its ionizer on by default does not make it worse than others, since, there's nothing unsafe about it being on in the first place. 🖖
      Any ozone that is produced from top air filters via their ionization feature, is effectively 0.

    • @Byhrum
      @Byhrum Рік тому +6

      @@blakkheim no it does not, you can have ionization which only produces negatively charged particles that aim to attach to pollutants and have them stick to the filter or nearest surface. Ozone generators aim to break the particles altogether.
      They are very different and there is no evidence that points towards ionization being dangerous, the only initiative is linked to potentially producing VOCs but even then, it's pure speculation for now.
      The main problem comes from purifiers that generate ozone without alerting the users as it can create dangerous levels for rooms without proper ventilation.

    Medify MA-112 over the IQair? Interesting considering the frequency of filter changes for the former. Add in the fact that Medify's filters aren't always available, which is a huge barrier if the cost isn't enough to put you off. Medify's filters have 0% longevity. I believe this list should be reassessed, especially after Levoit was forced to remove the HEPA certification from their product range. No mention of Airpura either....

      @@consumer-analysis Do you think units like the blueair dustmagnet that emphasize on the way the unit manages airflow direction can show better results at fighting dust than other units with better CADR?
      They seem to have a positively charged filter and a ionizer that should help the filters collect dust more effectively (especially on the prefilter), however, they also have somewhat strict guidelines of the placement of the unit.
      It's confusing as they have smaller and cheaper units with better CADR.

Why don't you test these units against a known standard? Otherwise, are you just taking the manufacturer's specs as fact?

It is compact, relatively to other top recommendations, and it's the only one on this list that is wall-mountable. For someone like me who doesn't have much floor space, being able to wall mount it makes the RabbitAir worth it based on that alone. It is also relatively quiet compared to other top recommendations. I love the idea of this page but I had a hard time following you. When you flip back to the page of the big listing of units, it would benefit us if you could highlight the one you are talking about because otherwise, I have no idea what brand, etc you are speaking about. If you can't do that then maybe have a sub-title listing the unit you are speaking about it. Thank you.

    I'm reading the Hathaspace HSP001 manual and in the precautions section. It clearly says
    "This device emits ozone during use. Ozone can be harmful and can cause irritation and injury. This device should be used in (unoccupied) spaces only. Do not use while HUMANS or ANIMALS are present. "
    People, please read the manuals. Whats the point of these machines if they are producing ozone.

    How does the Levoit Vital 200s compare to the Winix 5500-2?

    • @Justin-C
      @Justin-C 6 місяців тому +1

      Levoit uses cheap garbage PC fans in a lot of their units which don't do well pulling air through a HEPA filter. They're garbage..
      The Winix uses a nice quality squirrel cage blower fan that is quiet, efficient, and moves a whole heck of a lot of air.

    what are your thoughts on the Winix air purifier am80 in comparison to the 5500-2?

    • @consumer-analysis
      @consumer-analysis  Рік тому +2

      Outside of aesthetics, price, and availability, it's essentially identical to the 5500-2. I don't recommend it on the channel because it's usually considerably more expensive than the 5500-2 and frequently out of stock.

    • @TerenceGrier
      @TerenceGrier Рік тому

      I just looked this up
      The am80 has a worse CADR score and also has the same carbon filter as the 5300, which is a worse carbon filter than the 5500.
      The 5500 is a better product

    I love in a high end apartment where they are blowing chemicals into the elevators and hallways. The whole place smells like a glad plug in and I have asthma and mast cell issues. My place is shy of 800 square feet. What is the recommendation. I need to get these chemicals out of my living space. They float in on my person and when I open the door.

    What do you think about the Xiaomi Air Purifier 4 Pro?

    • @consumer-analysis
      @consumer-analysis  Рік тому

      It looks like it uses similar filtration technology to Blueair Blue Pure units (less dense non-HEPA filter and ionization), and so I would have a similar opinion on the Xiaomi's filter as well.

  • @ThorSparks
    @ThorSparks Рік тому +1

    Disagree with the idea that "placing the carbon filter in front of the HEPA filter would be better". Placing the carbon filter in front of the HEPA filter results in the carbon filter becoming clogged with particulate. The carbon filter cannot effectively filter gasses if it is clogged with particulates. This is why it is best practice to place the carbon filter in the last stage of air purification systems. Placing it anywhere else reduces its ability to properly filter gases, thereby turning it into another non-gas filter.

    These all use expensive, proprietary filters. The numerous DIY air filters using wall/floor fans or computer fans produce much better results in terms of better airflow and cost and ease of replacement of the air filters. There are lots of videos on UA-cam showing how to make these yourself, as well as links to people making the basic frames for you (you have to supply just the standard 1"-2" HVAC filters, and sometimes the fans).
