    I went with the levoit 600s as well for my office. I have 2 other levoit 400 as well that work well and are so easy to control via the phone. They work really well and their filter cost isn't too bad.

  • @quick247
    @quick247 Рік тому +12

    Yes, you need to set the Levoit 600s manually all the time because it only has a PM2.5 sensor that can detect small particles like smoke but nothing else. Doesn't detect smell, doesn't detect dust, pollen, or anything. It's close to useless on auto settings. The filters are really great, but you need to constantly adjust the fan manually when you smell an odour, feel there is dust in the air, or see pollen. The problem is that I did;t expect I'll need to tell it what to do. It's a glorified fan with a great filter that's let down by not knowing what's happening around it. If you live next to a busy road and breathe car fumes 24/7, this will be a great purifier because it will detect the small fume or smoke particles really well on the Auto setting. If you want it to automatically detect dust, pollen, and odours, then it won't. It will happily sit there on the lowest setting thinking the air is perfectly clean, when it's not.

    • @ozrenbalic6051
      @ozrenbalic6051 5 місяців тому

      Expecting an $299 air purifier to detect not just pm2.5 particles, but also larger particles, odours, etc, and do so reliably, is pretty unrealistic. I almost never change the speed manually, I have one or multiple units in every room, running 24/7, at the noise level I am comfortable with, while giving me at least 5 air exchanges per hour.

    I have four Oransi air purifiers and they do a great job. I have two older models of theirs called Oransi Max and they have air sensors but I just set the fan speed based on what’s going on in the house and the Air Quality Index of the outside air that day. I also have two Oransi Mods and they do an excellent job of moving lots of air in my bedroom. They are very simple machines with no air sensors or remotes which I like. Everything went into making a quality air purifier that works. The filters last 6-12 months depending on conditions. Mine last longer because I clean them off every month or so and I have more filters than recommended for my small home. But I have asthma and these really improve my condition to the point where I love being home because breathing is not a problem at home. The filters are also reasonably priced. I never tried any other filters because I am so happy with these. When comparing filters look at the CADR and filter cost over the years. Sensors, remotes and Bluetooth do nothing to clean the air they are marketing gimmicks.

    I purchased a Winix 5300-2 mainly because my friend has one and the difference in air quality is immediately recognizable once I step into his tiny home.
    He has a 12 x 20 all on one level. Mine is a 10 x 20 with a bedroom loft.
    So then I began wondering where would be the best place to place it and whether I should buy a second one for down stairs.
    Any recommendations would be appreciated...
    Great video...
    Thx.

    • @applisense
      @applisense  9 місяців тому +6

      Thank you, my advise is more along the lines of figure out as you go. The Winix 5300-2 is in my opinion designed to run flat against something like a wall, which is pretty cool if you're considering it'll mostly be out of the way. My recommendation is to just buy one to start off with and let it sit at different spots in the living space to get a feel for it's best location. Eventually you'll figure out the best place and if you need a second one. Happy holidays!

    • @MissionForward3
      @MissionForward3 9 місяців тому +2

      @applisense Thanks for the fast reply. It's supposed to arrive tomorrow. The door opens at the bottom of the stairs. At the top of the stairs to the loft is a space where the Winix will sit perfectly. The bedroom air is most important to me, and I'm thinking it will funnel air up the stairwell when the door is opened. It'll be far away from other appliances and draw up and around when the door is closed.
      So that's the operating theory. I'll start there. If it seems inefficient, then I'll move it as you suggested.
      Thx again. Enjoy the holidays.

    I purchased the LeVoit 400S for Christmas and I've been very pleased with how quiet and efficient it seems to be; I think you got a bad unit? However, I've noticed that every time it goes from sleep to efficient mode, it's VERY loud for about 10 minutes. I thought maybe it does this because overnight the air quality has dropped a bit and it needs to jump into turbo mode to clean the air again, but looking at the recorded air quality readings that doesn't seem to be the case. Does anyone know why it gets so loud and powerful when transitioning from Sleep to Efficient mode every morning?

    I don't believe that smaller filters or lower air throughput can only cover small rooms, because pm 2.5 particles remain in suspension even with very little air movement and do not settle. It just takes longer for them to be caught by the filter. So, to keep the air in a room clean, you don't need a powerful, high-performance air purifier. You may only need it if you want to reduce fine dust pollution as quickly as possible. I have a Smartmi p1 in my 40 sqm living room, which is designed for a maximum of 30 sqm. It keeps the air clean throughout the room, even at low speeds. But I also don't live in a heavily polluted area.

      True, most home hvac does not filter microns. The are built for for high velocity pressure air movement. The hvacs have to circulate high cm to heat and cool the pressured space thus the filtration of microns is to much pressure on the residential system, it would heat up and burnout. There are micron adapters available but would cost $30,000 to inplace. Do your homework and invest multiple air purifiers and breath.

    I'm considering buying a Blue Air , but it uses that cloth wrapping at the bottom as an initial passive filter that you can supposedly clean -- doesn't the dust stored in it fly all over the place while you're trying to get it off ? I noticed that it's a really tight fit, and pulling/yanking it would create a dust up if it's full of dust ?!
    Would an initial swipe with a damp cloth clean off the dust stored on the outside of this passive filter ?

      I've seen on other reviews how much of a hassle it is to remove the Blue Air's passive cloth filter (a zipper or Velcro based system would be so much better -- I mean it already has a Velcro based system to hide the side cable ...) .
      My guess is that if I try to remove it with a few weeks worth of dust from around here, it will turn into a dust cloud .
      Thanks for the reply. While this looks to be an excellent filter, the design (for me at least) seems to get in the way of being user friendly .

    • @applisense
      @applisense  2 роки тому

      I would for only one reason - The 600s has activated carbon pellets, whereas the 211+ auto only has a carbon dust layer. However I cannot guarantee removal of smells because there are so many factors involved that vary from person to person and their living space

    Just wanna warn people against buying the Blueair Blue Pure 411. Lowest setting claims to clean 15 square meters but it hardly moves any air. Setting nr. 2 is too loud to be white noise while sleeping. Setting nr. 3 is too loud for anything.
    The sound it makes is a "small fan noise" rather than a "large fan noise", which is logical when you open it up to inspect the fan; it's a large case fan for a computer pretty much.
    The LED's are too bright, yes they fade to sleep mode but even that is too bright.
    I'm not sure who this product is for, it feels like a cash grab from Blueair. It's the 3 settings that ruins this product; too little or too much fan noise. The price is also highly questionable when you look at the plastic tube + computer fan. No other features, no timer or anything.
    I bought it at a discount and still question my purchase.
    On the positive: it does seem to collect dust and particles, and the claims about removing VOC's seems to be true. It does however come with its own VOC smell for the first few days. Smells like plastic or synthetic something or other. I'm sure it's healthy to breath in. I'm still alive to write this.
    This would be a half decent IKEA product at half the discounted price.
    I'm thinking about making my own filters for this unit to prevent paying Blueair more money. It should be simple enough just buy HEPA and activated coal filter off of EBAY, there's plenty of room on the bottom of the unit for something custom made.
    There's nothing like buying a half-assed product that kinda work.

      I agree, any setting but low is too loud. Sounds like it's taxing or if you have a computer, your computer is ramping up. Enough to scare my cats away which sucks because I'm looking for something to place in the room where I keep my litter boxes. I'm sure you wouldn't want a loud fan ramping up when you're pooping suddenly lol.

    Can anyone please tell me if Air Purifiers alter the air pressure in room? Ever since I switched the Levoit 300s I feel like my eyes getting blocked as in an airplane. Any of you having this feeling or it maybe a coincidence that my ears clogged for some reason at the very same moment?
    Second question is that on the medium speed the device has like a very low whistling like sound. Not on low or high. I hear it only on medium fan speed. Its hard to describe this sound but its like a plane engine but on a low volume.
