The only thing about this movie that truly disappoints me is the missed opportunity of having one couple have one parent not going on a murder rampage, the kids thinking they are immune, only to find out the they aren’t their biological parent. Would have been either heartbreaking or hysterical. Or both.

That's not how parental bonding works, unfortunately. In the case of a "mailman baby", the cuckolded parent has no knowledge that this has occurred, and would bond with the child as if it were their own. You'd more likely get the scenario you describe with step parents, where the relationship hasn't built yet with the stepchild.

My husband is a big ugly smelly slob who has more debt then income but even when I was seeing red a few weeks ago because I was just disgustingly mad at him and thinking of spending a week at my moms just to cool off…: cheating never crossed my mind. Flirting or sexting never crossed my mind. Affairs are weird and really have nothing to do with how attractive the victim of the affair is. My wife was on set in Louisville, his uncle Vin was the casting director and came in to see her with our red-headed baby and asked to use our baby in the opening scene. @@mommalion7028"Red heads are good luck." As a redhead, I can confidently say we're not. If anything, we're the exact opposite, especially if you're of Irish decent (as Irish luck doesn't actually mean what you think it means so having red hair makes it worse).
Maybe it depends on the type of redhead. If you're like me, a ginger with blue eyes, then maybe you're a sign of goodluck as that's one of, if not the most rarest combination in the world with about 1% of the total population having this combination. I still say maybe because my luck and/or the luck I bring to others basically doesn't exist.

The line-of-sight component makes me think of a condition that basically makes you think your loved ones have been replaced by doppelgangers. It's an occasional complication of traumatic brain injury, and it leads to first an uncanny valley sort of mistrust which later develops into a deep seated hatred for this person you think has been replaced. But the effects are triggered specifically by seeing that person -- if you talk to them over a phone, or using a walkie talkie, then they're still that person to you. It's only when you lay eyes on them that the delusion kicks in and rustles your jimmies.
Which makes the static-induced seizure even interesting. Say you could develop some sort of toxin that basically booby-traps the brain into having this complication from the next traumatic brain injury. Now all you'd need is the brain injury. Depending on the seizure, that would be the perfect catalyst to set off this mass delusion that loved ones are not who they appear to be.

@@jedstanaland2897 You're correct! In most cases, there is a malformed bond and the parents genuinely cannot fathom the fact that they are being abusive/neglectful/ect. This is never an excuse, but knowing the possible cause for abusive behavior can help humanity learn how to better prevent and stop it in the future.
In personal experience, my parents truly believe they raised me properly and never abused me, they tell others in their life that they "love" me all the time. The problem is that their "love" manifested in horrible abuse, neglect, and an inability to take responsibility for their own actions (among many other things).

The brain is so fascinating. I often wondered why I had such severe PPD (for 2 yrs) with my 2nd child. I have chiari malformation but was unaware at that time. My neurosurgeon believes the pregnancies probably made my chiari & inner cranial hypertension more severe which started causing my seizures & could have possibly made the PPD worse & more prolonged.
Even more strange is all the ways I can tell I've changed since my brain surgeries. Most are subtle changes to my personality (used to be extremely outgoing, now i have mild agoraphobia & other things like that) but there's bigger ones too; like I used to be an extremely hyper visual thinker, now I find it harder & harder to visualize my thoughts. I'm donating my brain after I die for studies, but I wish there were some I could join while I'm alive that deal with the personality changes that occur after multiple cranial decompressions & cauterizing of the tonsils of the cerebellum.
Ugh, maybe I should have gotten a different degree instead of working towards a history degree. 😂

You need to follow the 5/5/5 method. 500 miles=tire rotation 5000 miles=oil change 50,000 miles=tune up and that means with modern cars you flush the transmission fluid and refill, flush the radiator and refill, check the drivetrain for any damage or wear like tie rods or shackles, check all brake linkages, do a brake flush bleed and fill, etc etc etc.....depending on the age of the vehicle and type, every 50k it might be a lot of work or very little. This is regarding solely cars and trucks though, motorcycles are far more complex maintenance cycles.

Interestingly (and also very unfortunately), children who experienced "parentification" related trauma while growing up have been shown to undergo similar neurological changes as those seen in adults who reproduce. It, of course, has significantly more maladaptive results due to these changes occuring in adolescents, often leading to the development of PTSD, personality disorders, and deeply unhealthy coping mechanisms. Some of the biggest psychological symptoms noticed were a general lack of sense of self, or one's identity being mostly (or entirely) comprised of the opinions of others, and the individual having a higher rate of self-neglect in order to appease others.
(For anyone unsure, parentification trauma is a colloquial term used in the psychology community to describe different forms of role-reversal that can happen in a home. It specifically refers to anything involving a child being put in a position where they must act as an adult or tackle not-age-appropriate tasks in order to protect themselves and others)

Commenting because of the refresher on the PSAT (and why, now long out of Uni and with one higher degree, I’m *still* mad about it). The PSAT used to (it’s cut back a lot now in funding) be the gauge for getting into the National Merit Scholarship program. I had a friend in my undergrad who, between the National Merit Scholarship, and the scholarship our uni offered that lowered out of state tuition to instate and payed some of that as well, she had a full ride. And trust me, I was happy for her.
What I was _mad_ about was because I was homeschooled under an umbrella school-and not one of those “unschoolers” I was at my local Junior/Four year college at 16 and only didn’t start at 15 because I was out of the country for the first week and a half of school-the high school teachers really hated anyone who might remotely seem to be home schooling (even if they did it all online via Florida Virtual, so they were doing distance learning before 2020, back in 2007). So when I got the PSAT they told me I wasn’t allowed (bs) to submit to the National Merit Scholarship because I wasn’t attending a “real school.” Even though the school that tracked my records, and recorded my college/uni credits _was a school_ with a physical location and classes and everything, they just had an arm that was an umbrella school. (One of my fellow seniors was in the umbrella program because his parent(s) were in the army and would be shuffled around a lot across Europe so he stuck with the umbrella program (which had their own curriculum if you wanted to use it) to get a consistent education.
But the point is: the PSAT used to give you a _lot_ of money compared to other scholarship test programs. And I got told I basically was lucky that the board of education, _and_ the teachers proctoring the exam, even allowed me to take it. It was so petty.
Now the scholarship has been kneecapped, and you’re better off getting good grades, making sure your HS counts any college/uni courses as grade letter above HS grading, (so a B in a uni/college class is an A in the high school equivalent, which is how you get people with over 4.0 averages) and finding a school that had the thing you think you want, that offers good deals to newly graduated students (under sixty credit hours of Uni/college courses-they will count you as a transfer if you go over 60 and then you lose all Freshman scholarships) and go there. Now the PSAT is pretty worthless.
Also I don’t live there so I don’t mind dropping the info: anyone from FL with the right GPA, I believe gets 10k a year bonus on top of whatever other scholarships one qualifies for at UNF. I knew a lot of people who basically had 5k each semester of discretionary money. And I wish I’d done it, instead of buying the lie I was sold by my liberal art’s college that I lasted one year at before I couldn’t stand the kids shooting up and snorting things up their nose-but what do you expect from a bunch of Yanks who come down in their corvettes and other expensive cars to give an 18 year old, with a stipend from their doctor/lawyer parents who’d had them in private boarding schools where they basically were the low end of the totem pole because their parents didn’t have _enough_ money or clout to get them into the full Ivy Leagues. And usually the students didn’t have the GPA (I was one of two students there who qualified for their highest scholarship and that barely dented it) to get into Vanderbilt, or Duke. So they got dropped off at Eckerd.
    /End rant.

I have a cousin, that although not a teen he is still very young, he had a son and now the baby is, by all effects being raised by his parents, he is present, he lives with him, but chances are that he may end up being more like the big brother to that child rather than the actual father figure.
Still in the same family, my mom, and her brother that is now a grandpa, we’re both raised by my late great grandmother, my mom called her mom, even though she was the grandmother, and until this day she calls my actual grandmother by her first name, rather than mom.
So yeah, family relations are not always that straightforward, regardless of hormones.

It is uncommon, but as always depends on the individual. As shown by the fact that fathers are a thing, that bond is acquired, not innate from the happening of birth. Humans are hard-wired to rear young, even if they can't always make them themselves. It's part of the "social" aspect in social species, at least in humans. It's one of the reasons why you will see people run into a burning building to rescue children, even if not their own, but would stand outside if they knew it was adults. Instinct.
As you said, loads of grandparent raise their grandchildren. But that's the thing: they raised them. Essentialy making them parents at that point. Same goes for step-parents, adoptive parents, etc.

If you wanna see another funny vid about this movie, I'd highly recommend Elvis the Alien's review of it from a little while ago. His editing and humor are superb, in my opinion.

Fun fact, my name was changed to Nic when my mom saw Nicolas Cage on the back of a VHS and decided that was a better name for her unborn sun rather than Alex.

These are the kind of movies i wish they'd spend more time actually explaining whats happening, as watching it with someone who doesn't make the connection with the subtle hints is left asking "So was that it?" " What made them act like that? That was pretty stupid."
