Ever notice that when he's playing with other guitarists, they're always leaning over to see what he's playing. Thanks Dave. I still have the Albert Hot Licks video.
I did get to see him once, and got to shake his hand. He was in the lobby after the show. It was a small venue in S Oregon. Probably the best guitarist that most have no clue who he is, even though they have heard him... It was just before his 80th birthday party over in England. Nice guy! As I was leaving, I heard some one comment, "maybe I should go home and burn my guitars." I kind of felt the same way, but didn't burn them...
I received Brian Mays Star Licks video back in the 80s, and was introduced to AL via the 2 min promo on that video. I was only 16 and had never heard of Albert Lee (or Steve Lukather who was also featured) before. That video not only taught me a lot of Brian's stuff, but opened my world to some awesome players.
Dave, your tone outta that V-Amp is always fresh and spot on. As a ‘Tele Guy’, I have to admit that you’re the reason I want a Black Les Paul. Your ‘Pentatonic Highway’ vids are solid gold. Long Live Late Night Lessons!
Albert and Johnny Hiland can do this picking roll using the pinky so they get that extra articulated note in there. The arpeggios they come up with is such ear-candy. The thing that puts you in virtuoso territory. Notes all over the place in any key.
Albert makes it look easy. During the past Crossroads festivals he played a lot of slide along with his hybrid picking and everything else in his arsenal. Underappreciated player, which is terrible. Fantastic player, so modest it's almost like no one notices him but fellow guitarist. Great lesson n video Dave, keep up the great work
went to see him a couple years back at Ram's head in Annapolis...his stories were just as entertaining as his playing..then to cap off the evening he jumped on the keyboard and completely shredded every note out of it...if you get to see him....GO!
you can do this as well on the 1st second and 3rd as well in several keys this is a common idea in country players just do their own variations 1st lick idea .. sometimes pulling off each string or nutting or using rhythmic variation just mentioning it. it always sound like a different lick but many times its just a variation.. :)
I still think Dave Edmonds "Sweet Little Lisa" contains some of Alberts best playing and the solo is just jaw dropping. One of my favourite guitar pieces of all time😊
Maybe because Albert Lee is English chicken fiddling. The english will add classical approach on American cultural ignorance. The first lick here, is very similar to Eric Johnson's lick vhs starlicks video in(style of Jerry Reed) I'm sure its on UA-cam. A section from Eric Johnson's video. Eric Johnson influinces. Licks in the style s of Hendrix, Jeff beck ,Keith Richard, Jerry Reed etc. We always made fun of haircuts. Eric Johnson's guitar tone is most 'polite' (nice guy) overdrive distortion Ive ever heard.
It’s not hard to be like Joe Satriani or all those shredders. Don’t get me wrong, they’re all great and better than me, but It’s country players like Albert Lee or Jerry Reed that frighten me the most 😅
Yea it definitely is difficult to be like joe, he isnt just a run of the mill shredder, he still puts a emphasis on melody, harmony, and rhythm not to mention all that time spent studying theory with jazz guys bill bauer & lenny tristano definitely turned him into who he is.

A lot of those country guys are monster players. Love Albert's playing.
Loving that you are delving off into the country and Jerry Reed stuff maybe do some other chicken pickers three for all's and all
I’d be into that!!!
I absolutely love those smokin’ hot country players. They have a a very lean and precise sound
Love Albert Lee....some really fast stuff he did ...great player
Hi Dave I like the fact that you always give the proper credit to a lot of underrated musicians! Great job!!

Albert Lee: Amazing! Thanks, David!
LEGEND!

Awesome video. Love the bending technique towards the end of the video.
38 special rough housin would be a good one to learn. 😎
One of the better guitar channels on UA-cam. Great Stuff.
(playing a Tele is also a huge bonus 😎)
Went to show of him this year. Blew me away!
Thanks! Love Albert Lee!
Great Episode. Albert Lee is on so many albums. Always a benefit for other artist. Even because of his contrast to other guitar players.

Need to be a decent hybrid picker as well as these unique bends.
I have his signature Ernie ball guitar & it’s a wonderful instrument!
Amazing David ! Loved the sound of that Telecaster

I really enjoy the country episodes. Thanks for posting.
Thank you for this podcast...I definitely think Albert Lee is one of the greatest guitarist ever...
Love It !!! 🙂
Dave, do you remember how they featured clips from some of the other star licks series on their videos?
I still think Dave Edmonds "Sweet Little Lisa" contains some of Alberts best playing and the solo is just jaw dropping. One of my favourite guitar pieces of all time😊
Great video!
Big Albert Lee fan. Check out his Advanced County Guitar Book. The DVD portion is also up on UA-cam. Very inspiring playing. Check it out.
Make an Albert Lee Pedal Steel Licks only. I rather learn his pedal steel licks
In the clips Albert is ALWAYS tapping his foot
