Gonna be tough since the NFL is all in on their new "Face of the League" Mahomes, and they want him to win and be in the media as much as possible. Although, rigging back-to-back SB wins for him may just be TOO obvious even for the NFL...
Shanahan's zone-run scheming was brilliant all season, but there were a couple games in 2019 where it was next-level genius. And one of those games was in week 8 against Carolina. And I believe this was because he was getting tired of hearing the media question his team's credibility. The second was in the NFC Championship game against Green Bay, where it was so good that he was able to almost ENTIRELY abandon the passing-game on offense. Just think of how good you'd have to be - when it comes to scheming - to be able to commit almost entirely to a single aspect on offense in the NFL. I mean these are the most elite athletes on the planet, both physically and mentally, and he was able to come out almost every single down and say "We're running the ball; I dare you to stop it". And then proceed to run the ball down their throats for four quarters!! I don't think that most non-49ers fans fully appreciate just how difficult that is to do.. Hell, there are even some 49ers fans who don't fully appreciate how difficult that is...
And then what happened in the 4th quarter, up 10 points off a second interception in a row? 3 runs for the rest of the Super Bowl. Three... And zero looks for Deebo after the first drive in the second half after Deebo was killing KC. KC didn't have an answer and SF didn't force KC to prove they had an answer. Kyle just got cute and tried to show off his passing game genius
@@PaulGaither - You're absolutely right! What I believe is that Shanny wanted to get Jimmy the MVP in an effort to quiet all of the criticism surrounding his value to the team. But he did so at the cost of the rest of the team. Although it isn't Shanahan's fault that the defense completely collapsed at that same moment in the game. However I still agree that they should've kept it on the ground. I'm a firm believer in going with what got you there - and as much as I like Jimmy G., it was the ground game.
Bobby Franzo refs were no help either that no call on 3rd and 15 and that pi on kittle before the half, I could go on. I mean why was the guy who blew the most controversial call in nfl history (rams vs no nfc championship) the head ref in the FUCKING SUPER BOWL lol
@@IsThisRain And Juszczyk. Don't forget the fullback! And don't forget that we have an insane O-line that makes it all happen! All those incredible runs of 2019 had layered double-blocking and pulls for deep downfield blocks. I don't know how many times after big runs I saw Garland or Richburg get up 15-20 yards downfield and get back to the huddle.
He is underrated on a historical perspective. He has been a better FB than Rathman, but old heads don't want to hear that. Juice does more and does it better. Did you see him catch balls down field against the Steelers? Not just a swing pass or a Texas angle route from Montana. No disrespect to Tom, he was amazing, but Juice is the best FB in 49ers history. Yes, Joe the Jet Perry is in the hall of fame at FB, but back then both the HB and FB were just RB#1 and RB#2 in split backs and did the same things. Joe was a RB more than a FB.
@@cartermurray4440 - Go and rewatch juice laying out for deep ball catches and catching passes in traffic and say that again. Sure, maybe Tom ran better, but it isn't like Kyle calls runs for Juice. Of the two, especially in today's zone blocking NFL (Tom Played before Denver and Mike Shanahan and Alex Gibbs changed the NFL), I would take Juice as my #44 all time 49er.
Beloved by the entire fanbase. A legendary niner honestly. Especially when it comes to immeasurable stuff. He has and carries an energy and confidence that is super reassuring to the fan watching. Things just feel right, and make most sense when he’s out there. And the dude can block better than just about any one of the skill positions. This dude is a master at 2 for 1 blocking and is the reason for so many big plays.
When you constantly change the variable out of the same formation, then add motion to shift the defensive coverage to the area you want to attack. It is a masterfully constructed run attack orchestrated by Shanahan. Watching all 11 members of the offense moving in perfect synchronicity. Simply majestic. Thank you Baldy for this fantastic breakdown.
The blocking of the 49ers running game is amazing. Complex, accurate and deadly. Teamwork at its finest. P.S. Speed kills. Teams consistently did not understand how fast Mostert, Brieda, even Coleman were. Kyle will do exactly the same thing with WRs and Jet. 8:43 Wagner and Wright were disagreeing about which side the play was going. Bobby was signalling right and K.J. was signalling left. Getting defenses confused and conflicted is exactly what Kyle is trying to do. It works.
Baldy is the very best at breaking down run film. I thought I was seeing the influence clearly, but Baldy shows how the scheme sets up blocking angles. I have maintained since 2019 that Garoppolo is among the top three ball handlers in the league and that his look and quick set up help key the run game.
That was the only time all year they ran that specific play to Deebo @5:46. Another channel on UA-cam broke down how that play was set up in previous weeks as well. I don't recall ever seeing that specific look/play again the rest of the year. Maybe I am wrong. What a great design.
What good is it!!! We were up by 10, with 7 minutes left in the 4th quarter of the Superbowl. And we couldn't even run the ball, and get first downs, to run the clock out! If this runnin game was really good,, we would of ran the ball right down their throats , and control the ball for the last 5 minutes
I love the Joe Show #74, but even he admitted that some of the best runs on the season involved him not really blocking anybody, just like on that Saints reverse at 12 minutes. Trent Williams will be involved on those plays and they will go for more yards and possible scores
This is why I like Pete Caroll who wanted to play this style 60% of the time. Time possession is dominant. Less risky interceptions while some to no fumbles. Team play. Matter of fact, you can get a QB like a veteran QB and can play action pass 40% of the time while 60% is this. It’s the execution of blocks that will get running backs into a TD. It’s that easy.
I hate the NFL after the Blck Lives Matter fiasco, but I saw just a little bit of the 49'er run game against the Packers, and I knew I was looking at something special. As we all know, at the championship level everybody does everything very well, but it is the guy (or team) that does one thing better than everybody else. SF's run game might be that one thing. Thanks for the video.
Even when he says he’s going to run the play all the way through, he stops, pauses and rewinds it. Never seen so many angle changes, slowdowns and rewinds... sweet Jesus 😂
The only team that Kyle Shanahan couldn't get huge plays on in the run game (when enough of the offense was healthy) was the Vikings. Kyle said with the ways they use their safeties he can't get the usual big plays off. I'm thinking he spent some time in the lab and he'll have a new wrinkle to add or the team will be more pass first oriented.
Seems to me by ur analysis the 9ers have 2 running plays they can do n pick which way to run by wat the LB does. 1 is the original run play n 2 wat the LBs do after the motion. U notice the LBs talkin n using hand signals to say which way the play is going, once Jimmy G sees the shift or hears them communicate he simply doesn't hand the ball off to the RB, which the play is meant for instead he hands the ball off to whoever is motioning to the opposite side...very clever. Also clever is not blocking the linebacker ur targeting to make them think they r free to make the play only to have the play go the other way where the linebacker was originally but now is not. 9ers ALL DAY!
A running game can only take you so far until they figure out how to stop it. You need a passing game to balance your offense and with Gasackabo you never will.
Already they all saying the niners will have the superbowl hangover and that we are going to have a harder time this year ... smh ... no this year puts the 6th Lombardi trophy on the shelf ...
This is what the Steelers' run game is supposed to look like with Matt Canada - but they either won't commit to it or their personnel isn't capable of running it. Who knows, but all we're left with is 2 yds and a cloud of dust. Only ~50yds per game, SMH......
Tbh and not being bias. I’ve never seen a team dominate a game purely running like we did against the packers. I’ve never seen a team legit break another’s will by doing 1 thing.
This is the genius of Kyle Shanahan. Just wait until we have a QB in there who can scramble AND stay healthy. I love Jimmy, but he's just too injury prone. He's sunk two Superbowl worthy years due to his inability to stay on the field.
