  • Whether your rear shock just needs a fluid change or a full breakdown and rebuild, having the right know-how and tools can turn a daunting task into something you knock out in an hour or two. In this video, Charles shows how to replace the shock seal and change the oil on a WP XACT rear shock from a 2020+ KTM, Husqvarna or GasGas motorcycle.

    Great video. Thank you for taking the time to make these. I also appreciate how detail oriented Charles is.

    Great tutorial, thanks so much! Everything went great and I’m off to get a nitrogen fill.
    I made a couple changes: used the SKF seal head and MX Tech low friction piston bushing. Now it’s smooth as snot :)

    Hola, muy bueno el vídeo.
    La pregunta que tengo es si hay que cambiar el tornillo original que trae de tapon el recipiente de nitrógeno por otro que tenga orificio de carga. Gracias

    Is it normal that i wasnt able to push the piston all the way down but it went pretty smooth all the way to the top?

    Is the process any different for an XPLOR shock vs an XACT? Could you do a video for the XPLOR? I don't see how to push piston down to fill the reservoir and bleed by pushing piston back up. Afraid I'm going to damage it. Also, not clear how/if we are supposed to set the piston height to some specific spec.

    Chase should have been in this video since there is a shaft involved.

    There is likely still air in the shock doing this method, either trapped in the seal head or in the shaft. After getting the seal head clip in, with the shock right side up in the vise, let the air pressure out and compress the shock and pull the shaft back out strongly on the rebound stroke to get air to rise to the top. Do that a couple times. Then with the shock in the vise and the compression adjuster at the highest point and mostly level, compress the shaft about half way and loosen the compression adjuster until the oring exposes enough to let out the trapped air until oil starts coming out and then tighten it back down.

      And know that your piston depth might change by a millimeter so re check that and make sure you have the right amount which would be at least three or five millimeters but not much more than that

      @@tom97zr2 so when i measure 97mm when its all they way top i should have 92mm when i have bled the system?

    • @tom97zr2
      @tom97zr2 9 місяців тому

      You set piston depth after you bleed it.

    Even though my 2018 FE501 says Xplor on the shock, I think it was actually an X-Act. Technically XPlor shock is for PDS, and X-Act is linkage, correct?

    After filling the resevior with oil using syringe, when you push the piston up through the gas filling screw port, do you let all the pushed oil (also with air that gets pushed from the resevior end through the compression stack) just drain out of the main body as it is located with the "open" end (as there is no shaft in it yet) down and then, when the oil has drained out and the piston has been pushed up as much as possible you just turn the shock around and fill up the main body? I'm asking this because to me it seems a bit odd to do it this way as air and oil comes out into the main body and just drains onto "the floor", after which, when I turn the shock around and just fill it up (the main body) I"m worried some air gets trapped somewhere in the compression stack (as I turn the shock around with no oil being left on the side of the main body as all the oil runned down on the floor).
    Thanks!

    What psi should the nitrogen be at when recharged ?

    Do you know roughly how much fluid is needed? Im planning on buying a 32oz maxima 3wt for my XACT shock and i assume thats enough.
    I cant find the volumne in the manual unlike the forks.

      Yeah, you only need one 32oz bottle. You won't use the whole thing. -Charles

    Is the steps the same for setting piston height with an IFP shock body? Also what happens if the height of the piston is incorrect?

    • @amanwithnoname6948

      It can cause the shock to not fully compress or extend due to the displacement of the oil.

      easier to pull the piston out as oil moves more freely

  • @AAhrens83

    It would be nice to see the torque in N-m, not just ft-lbs. You are also missing the measurement of where the piston should be, it should not be bottomed out at full depth. I believe it's supposed to be 5-10mm.

    • @elkku2934
      @elkku2934 9 місяців тому

      i did it on my own and i was able to push it to 97.05mm and i saw from the top that it wasnt all the way to the top and there was that 5-10mm
