Hurricane Milton now a Category 4 storm, headed for western Florida

- Parts of western Florida already impacted by Helene are now bracing for Hurricane Milton, a storm that has rapidly intensified into a major Category 4 storm in the Gulf of Mexico. CBS News correspondent Cristian Benavides has more on the preparations underway and CBS News Philadelphia meteorologist Grant Gilmore has a look at the storm's predicted path.

The impact of climate change is not kind to human beings.
Last year I was in northern Germany and there were floods, though not with high winds.
The small town I was staying at had the emergency team filling sand bags with a machine. They filled thousands of bags per day so people could go pick them up and use them!
With such storms, you cannot fill bags by hand!
Our prayers are with all suffering the calamities of extreme weather events 🙏

Anyone who receives FEMA/insurance money due to home damage from these hurricanes, should not be allowed to rebuild them in any hurricane prone area. If you want federal money, you shouldn’t be allowed to use it to make the same mistake twice.

NOAA just said Tampa will get 9 to 12 feet of storm serge. Its time to leave people im leaving in one hour i brought six gas cans to keep in my trunk and im filling them all up with has. We could lose gas and electric for a month or more. This is the worse possible scenario. Good luck everyone

Just convention. Higher category storms are possible, they just never really happen. Category 6 hurricanes will start appearing because of climate change tho, probably in a couple of years.

There is a secondary circulation in front of the main parent circulation that may develop into a depression which would be historic on route to Florida's peninsula coast line. Also, expect Milton to reach 165-170 mph CAT 5 strength before weaking to 145 mph CAT 4 before landfall.
So on Thursday we’re getting a category 1

Maybe one day people will stop building their homes in hurricane zones. Who would want to go through this every year, like people are still missing from the last hurricane and here comes another one.
