I don’t use the water from fridge. Why do I have the red warning on. Do I have to replace the filter even though I have never used it?

Thank you Sarah very Helpful. I will actually monitor how long it takes to change filter this time. Last filter didn't last 3 months before the light came on. So I'll monitor it by using the Home depot brand and next the Samsung brand. Ignore negative comments. Keep doing your thing

I have a Samsung french door refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom. I just have an ice dispenser. I have to change the filter but you said you flushed out the system, do I have to do that or not? I don't have a water dispenser, just an icemaker. I appreciate your response and I liked your video. You made it look easy peasy!

As far as I know our change filter light never came on but after year and half I thought "change it" , thank you for your easy to follow process. I did chose to turn off the water to the refrigerator since it was easy to do. And even though my change filter light wasn't on I went ahead and held down the water ice crushed ice for 3 sec. Where it happens to say on my fridge to reset water filter hold for 3 sec. it dings when you've held it long enough.

For some reason I can’t get my new filter to go in all the way. You also didn’t mention a little white tray that came out with my original filter. It’s original to the refrigerator. It came from the factory this way. The owners manual shows it coming out but does not tell you how to put it back in or if to put it back in. Thanks for your help.

also please tell which button in display u pressed in the end to reset the red warning light.
in my case display seems blurry or partly non functioning , let me know if u have knowledge for display fix as well.

Regina Sloan I have heard that the only ones that are possibly as safety monitored as the Samsung are the generic ones from Home Depot ... but do some checking yourself.

So which button did u hold to reset the red paddle, or calander as some are calling it? U did say which button to hold down to reset after running water
I have tried with the lock dial at 7pm and tried with the two rubber edges at the tip at the top as suggested in another video and the filter just spins around. How do you get it to catch ?

To get it to turn takes a lot more pressure than you think. I have to use both hands with both equally pushing counterclockwise to get it to pop loose. It took a hard twist to the left to start to turn.

The directions are on the instruction paper that comes with the filter. I did mine and came her to see how to get rid of the light. I did the same thing just by reading the instruction. I used HDX replacement filter, because I get 2 in a pack at Home Depot for $49.95 which is less expensive than the Samsung and it works just fine for me.
I have a 28 cu ft and some people say we need to turn off the water to replace the filter. It is not easy to pull this refrigerator out but I do not want a flood. Please advise.
I'm thinking these filters last longer than light warning. I just bought the fridge a couple months ago.
