I'm glad I saved this video. Of course, five months later, when I needed to change the filter again, and I forgot how to reset the filter light. Then I remembered I saved your video, and you're still a lifesaver!
me too. I hope he did a video on taking the glass off the bottom panel to clean. Seems like they could make the instructions on the door clearer. I had 4 people, young and old, trying and failing to reset the filter warning!
Thank you. How Samsung neglected to include the reset procedure is beyond me. Thank God this was only the second video I watched. Mission accomplished.
Super helpful! The manual left out the important part about pushing the door alarm button first before pushing the ice maker button! The red light is now out! 😁
Thank you so much!! Agree with other posters, manuals and other U tube videos are useless. They do not tell one to turn off door lock first then press the ice maker icon. So frustrating- you are a life saver!
Very helpful. The owners manual made no mention of pressing the door alarm button first. That made the difference and this video solved my problem. Thx for posting.
I'm on my 3rd filter, had the fridge 1.5 years and of course I can't remember how to do something I only do every 6 months. The owner's manual is useless. Thanks for your video. I have to confess I made the stupid mistake of not removing the filter cap first, and it came off and got stuck inside the cavity, so my filter would not go in flush and lock. I was confused that the old filter wouldn't fit either, so I thought I broke something inside. The owner's manual being useless (no photos), I needed your video to confirm that indeed the filter should sit in tight and flush. It's a pain to pull the fridge out and turn off the water; I have done it both ways and I deem this step unnecessary if it's highly inconvenient. Not worth scratching my hardwood floor any more than it already is, in addition to scratching the side. Thanks again. Wow 732 comments, impressive! Shame on SAMSUNG for publishing such a crappy owner's manual, or you wouldn't have this many hits.
Instructions contained in the owner's manual on how to clear water filter alarm didn't work for me. Your video showed me the right way and it worked! Thanks!
Man, you are a lifesaver I’m archiving your video so every six months I have to replace the water filter. I watch a video first. Thanks a bunch. Goat Status
We tried all sorts of solutions to get that filter light off. You had the solution to my model. It worked correctly the first time. Many thanks for your time and energy in putting this out. We were really scratching our heads on this one. And it all comes down to two buttons.
This is a great help...I read and reread the manual , unplug the refrigerator for 5 minutes, and kept draining the water, hold the ice maker button for 3 seconds for like about 30 minutes .....what the manual does not tell you, is that you have to shut the door alarm off , after the beeping , you hold the ice machine button for 3 secs. , trying every 5 minutes for the refrigerator to reset. So this video was a great help ..I wrote it down in back of my refrigerator manual also for future reference. And you showed the same model of the refrigerator I have so that helped alot. Thank you so much.😊
The most helpful and detailed guide I’ve seen so far. I thought it was me at first because my filter wasn’t as snug as the original but it wasn’t leaking either
Thank you so much. The manual did not go into detail like you did. You have to unlock the fridge before you try to reset the filter light. Thanks again.
Your video was very detailed and it showed me exactly what to do to replace the filter. Our refrigerator is fairly new and it is about time the filter would need replacing. This is the first time I will be doing that. Thank you!
Thank you for your knowledge on resetting the filter. We checked the book and several videos before I found yours. Your instructions were great! It would save a lot of time if Samsung gave more detailed instructions on this subject. Again thank you!
Everytime I have to change the filter in mine, I always forget how to reset the nitification. This video saves me every time! Thanks for doing this video!
Thank you. Much easier explanation than the manual or other videos. I'm glad you mentioned about having to turn it clockwise more than once before it fit in the slot. Worked like a charm.
Thank you for this video. I thave been pulling my hair out trying to understand the worthless instructions on how to reset the filter light. Your video is perfect.
Thank you for the video. The filter light was driving me crazy until I saw you have to unlock the controls then hold the Ice Maker button for the reset. This video was very clear and to the point. Thanks
$3000 for this bleepity bleep refrigerator and you have to go to UA-cam to find out how to reset the bleepity bleeping filter. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video.
*****IF THIS DIDN’T WORK, TRY THIS!!! I couldn’t got mine to reset. After watching about 1/2 of your video I tried, again to no avail...then. Then I noticed a flashing 🔒 icon, at the bottom. 🤦🏻♀️ I couldn’t reset it because it was LOCKED! So hold down the flashing lock for 3 seconds. Boom. We still have our manual and couldn’t figure it out. I think your calm demonstration gave me wisdom my friend!
I was unable to believe that the manual which is about 1/2 in thick doesn't tell you how to turn this light off. But then it is in more than one language. Samsung is a great refrigerator but the documentation is really awful. I want to thank you for telling me how to turn the light off before I contacted Samsung and was put on hold for another 20 minutes. You tube rocks!!!
Wow! Thank you! All the other instructions said hold 2 buttons. I did, then all the lights flashed and turned off the unit. 🤦🏻♀️ Your video is supper accurate! 💯❣️
Man I wouldn't have ever guessed to hold down the bottom section first, kept on trying to mess with the upper middle portion than anything else. Damn gotta love these UA-cam videos haha

Thank you so much we had a major water disaster happening because the new filter hadn’t sealed properly so after that I gave up on finding where I hid the book from myself!!!
Yes correct. This video made it so much simpler. I was shutting the water supply off, and pushing the filter straight to the back and then attempting to turn it. The filter of course kept leaking😬
Even Spencer's, where I bought it from, couldn't help me. I got 3:10 into your video, paused the video and three second later our Filter was turned off. Thanks, that dang light was driving my wife nuts!
Thanks for the great video. Could not figure out how to get the red light to shut off. Your video ended my frustration. Just hoping it now produces ice again!
Excellent video, it answered all my questions on the reset light and why the new cartridge didn't fit the same way the original cartridge fit into the slot. Thanks!
Here's a tip because I never change the filter when the light comes on. It takes me way longer than 6 months to go thru 300 gallons of water. I always write the installation date on the side of the filter in Sharpy and let it go for 9 - 12 months. Unless you use a real lot of water, the 6 month light is there to sell filters.
Thank you! The owner’s manual was LESS than helpful for my unit: it actually said to turn off the water source before changing the filter! I’m 67, I live alone, and would have had to call for service. I also did not know the filter had to be turned two or three revolutions to insert it, since it came out with only a half turn, and I kept trying to force it in with a single 90° turn. This video needs to be included in the owners’ manual! Lol
Tuesday 3/07/2024 This video was very informative and solved my problem with the blinking red light after I changed the filter! Saved me a service call!! Thank you!!
Great info, I don’t know I have to press the alarm to reset the filter, I was thinking the filter is fake product as the red indicator does not go away after I replace the filter, went to Bestbuy and bought another one, I was told I have to reset the alarm so that the red light will go off, I was still confused until I watched your video, thank you so much!
Thanks for sharing! My replacement filter I purchased was from Samsun, and it fit perfectly without open gaps. Samsung offers discounts on the filters when purchased in buclk or as a subscription every 6 months.
i changed my water filter a couple weeks ago but couldn't get the filter reset light to go off. i just noticed it was still blinking a couple weeks later. i tried again, didn't work. went to the manual and according to the manual i was doing it correctly. after i watched this video, i found that my manual had left out a step (unlocking the panel). went in the kitchen, did it the way this guy said to, and voila. it went off. thank you sir. i was driving myself nuts and have been working on this for an hour or two.
Thank you for this video! The manual is as clear as mud and I couldn't even locate the filter. My only question is do I have to turn the water off first? The manual says to turn it off but your video and none of the comments mention that part.

This video was helpful for changing the filter and resetting the filter button. But in the video the guy says to flush out about 1gallon. It actually says on the filter package to flush out 3 gallons under where it says how does it fit just FYI. But thanks for the video, very informational.
Thank you. I had a severe water leak after replacing my filter. The filter has 2 washers and one came off while I was replacing the filter. I found the washer in the filter tray. Replacing the washer fixed the leak but it took three hours to dry up the water.
Thank you! I knew how to reset the light but my filter wouldn't go in very easily. **** HELPFUL HINT*** I noticed so many people leave the 10 year warranty sticker on their fridges. I didn't like it, looks tacky,, so I tried taking it off. Not so easy. BUT, my husband said use a hair dryer and it came off in about 10 seconds. Try it!!
NOTE: It's suggested that you'll turn off the water to the fridge before changing filter. So it will relieve the pressure and avoid leaks.
how do i turn it off tho

Thank you! I knew how to reset the light but my filter wouldn't go in very easily.
**** HELPFUL HINT***
I noticed so many people leave the 10 year warranty sticker on their fridges. I didn't like it, looks tacky,, so I tried taking it off. Not so easy.
BUT, my husband said use a hair dryer and it came off in about 10 seconds. Try it!!
How did you get it back in? I’m having a similar issue. It won’t go back in and it’s making a mess
