SO fun seeing this! My mom is Barbara Brier, playing Trix Parker. Have never seen her on film before- thought this film had been lost to time. Also, my father is Arthur Dreifuss, who wrote, produced, and directed this film. Thanks so much for posting this here- what a delight seeing my mom on film!
She's so pretty and sweet. I enjoyed the violinist, and the acting cast too. I remember seeing her in movies and lots of the others too. It must have been an interesting life with her. Thanks for mentioning it.
@@debbabbit5823 Thanks so much for the kind comment. My mom got out of the "biz" not long after this, in the early 50s. I believe that as a young upcoming, but not established, ingenue, getting pregnant took you out of the studio contract system. A big star could weather it but actresses like my mom were dropped by studios if they became pregnant. A different era for sure. We knew mom had done some acting after being in the Miss California Pageant, but she kept it under wraps most of her life. We discovered a treasure trove of hundreds of studio pics from Warner Brothers, Columbia, RKO Pictures, and more after she passed away. The boxes of memorabilia hadn't been touched in nearly 50 years. Fun fact, mom also designed all the period costumes for this film, and helped in the re-writes of the script. The Hollywood Reporter called her a "Jane of all trades" in a review of the film. And I actually never even met my father, Arthur Dreifuss, as they divorced when I was about 3 months old. Hollywood scandal...LOL! Thanks again for the comment...you are sweet to leave it.
Wow! Your mother bless her soul was a multi-talented lady; It's a shame that she had to quit for that reason, she did such beautiful work and was the miss California pageant... Persons like that do not come around too often. I am sure you are very proud. I hope you had a good life with her and even though she was dropped by studios, she had a good life. Thanks for sharing and God bless!
For my 10th birthday, I received a beautifully illustrated copy of 'An Old Fashioned Girl' -- which I read and re-read for years, until the book nearly fell apart! To me, it's equal to 'Little Women' on my favorites list. I had no idea a movie was ever made, and can't wait to see it! I'll save it for the weekend, when I can cocoon in my room and ignore the outside world for a while. Thank you kindly for the upload!
My best loved books are visited over and over again, like old friends. They’re as comfortable and familiar as an old pair of slippers. These old movies have become the same way for me, too.
A story of families. So different from today's modern family 2020. There are some funny lines in this film that made me laugh. So light hearted. Wonderful production with great music of its time. Some lovely singing voices. 🎶❤️Such a quaint and memorable film. Thank you so much.
Oh I really liked it. What I would do without those lovely old whimsical movies,I don't know. Honestly. I'd find myself completely lost in our modern chaos we dare to call a world.
Jannet Lane Do you know "I married a witch" ? I have a feeling J.K.Rowling watched it (flying cars,imperius,amortentia)...but it's from 1942 !! Watching old movies is such a guilty pleasure.
This was such a really good movie.. i specially liked when Tom finally made the right choice with his long time friend polly. Thank you for uploading this beautiful movie ❤
Beautiful dreamer, Wake unto me Starlight and dewdrops Are awaiting thee Sounds of the rude world Heard in the day Led by the moonlight Have all passed away Beautiful dreamer, Queen of my song List' while I woo thee With soft melody Gone are the cares of Life's busy throng Beautiful dreamer Awake unto me Beautiful dreamer, Awake unto me
What a great film, wish modern ones had the same sense of families pulling together. Maude was hilarious, what a character. Have downloaded the book free from kindle.
I love this movie but I love the book more It is my favourite book of all time I love all of the characters, especially my favourite beautiful couple of all time tom and polly Whenever my scool holiday starts and get a time, i just want to go to UA-cam and enjoy listening to the audio book of an old fashion girl Also louisa may alcot is my favourite author because I love all of her stories like little women and rose In bloom I wish the movie would be a little longer
It`s such a shame that the quality is so poor after so many years, because the musical parts are soo beautiful. Thank you very much for sharing and a wonderful Christmas to everyone :)
Thank you so Much for this ! One of my Favorite Books growing up and I cannot find this film anywhere ! You totally made my day Thank you so much for Uploading it ! :)
That's what my friends always say to me when inviting me to parties: "I know you never go anywhere or see anyone, but if you want to come..." Homebodies are the scourge of the socialite world! ;)
I´ve read the book many times when I was a girl. I found this film QUITE different ! Polly teached Maude to sew with Grandmother: they made cloth for dolls; Polly went to skate on snow with Tom; Miss Mills flirted without telling her father; Polly was tempted with a pair of golden boots and spent all her money buying them. So she made a present for each one in her family with her own hands, knitting and sewing...
this is the second part of the original story. you refer the childhood days of Polly and the Shaws. she returns years later as the music teacher as you see here. I too wished they had included the first part too.
Grace Semenzato a movie can only present few moments in a written story and I think they did well to emphasise the music and almost turn it into a musical which was very much in vogue at the time....it caught the spirit of the story well though...
I dare somebody todays to go to a party, hold a handkerchief and start singing a solioquy of"beautiful dreamers": a psyche ward will be waiting for em.
1:06:42 This is such a girl/woman thing , when your friend knows about your feelings for a man and she immediately wants to help out saying '' oh,i must tell him! '' and you immediately get up stopping her replying '' no!, don't you breath a word of this !''
Great I like the little men and Little women they don't make them like this that's one of the reasons why Hollywood has gone down the tubesand just another reason why they don't do good anymore with the box office is because they don't make them like this I know you said to a person to be thankful for the classics time has moved on yes time has moved on but it's not for the better because Hollywood basically makes a bunch of crap right now they have lost all creativity they don't care about the audience all they care about is their left-wing politics they're wokeness and that is going to Doom Hollywood completely because the American people want none of that and Hollywood wants to throw their twisted moral viewpoint immoral viewpoint on to people who don't want it if Hollywood ever wants to get it right they need to make them like they used to make
Tom plays the eldest son in Life with Father, Elizabeth Taylor also plays in it. I really enjoy the music in the old movies. Now actors fake being able to play an instrument. Back then they were multi talented and far superior to todays actors.
Her first Student is a little Girl whose Mother just snobbishly approved of her first song to learn that ends with the words "Magic Spell!" That's weird!

*_This is a wonderful movie that should be remastered! 🥰_*
I agree 1000%
Great old fashioned film, beautiful and elegant actresses, dapper men, lovely music and the main character sings exquisitely.
The simplicity of gratitude and humility is beautifully portrayed in this good old fashion film of great substance.♡ :)
THANK YOU for uploading this
You’re welcome, Mad Hatter..ampopfilms
I loved this book as a child and even a young teen. I probably read it three times. I had no idea it was a film. Such a really beautiful story.
I'm still reading it now! Probably on the 12th or 13th re-read by now
Ahhhh!! Such a sweet, lovely film!!! Thank you! ❤

my mum used to sing this to me when I was a little girl. She had the loveliest Welsh soprano voice.
Stephen Foster.
I loved this book. I didn't know it was adapted into film.
Same here
Wonderful movie! I wish they still made them like this.

Wonderful, heartwarming film. Thank you so much for the upload. I really enjoyed it. Blessings!
I read this book many times as a child and even now it is still one of my favorites. Lovely to see an adaptation of an old fashioned girl.
What a great film, wish modern ones had the same sense of families pulling together. Maude was hilarious, what a character. Have downloaded the book free from kindle.

Wow! What a lovely voice. Wish I could sing like that.
Lovely movie , needs to
Be remastered before it's
To late . Nice to see
Miss Ryan as a young Lady .
I knew that was Elinor Donahue from 1949. She's still alive and still beautiful. She was a beauty on Andy Griffin as well.
Read the book decades ago, as a girl. Loved it, as I had Little Women.
Never seen this Gloria Jean movie. Thanks for sharing
It`s such a shame that the quality is so poor after so many years, because the musical parts are soo beautiful. Thank you very much for sharing and a wonderful Christmas to everyone :)
The film condition is so poor, I could well imagine it to be made in the mid-Thirties. It's shocking.
@@cacatr4495 yes its shocking that it's still PLAYABLE thank you for uploading this AMPOP FILMS
Loved this movie! Thanks for uploading.
Delightful, thank you 👍☺
I really love this movie, thank you for letting me see it.

This is amazing ! I loved it
100 film version of Little women and only 1, this ( 1949) from this beautiful book...
I loved Maud already, but because of this movie I love her even more
an enjoyable old fashioned movie.

Yes, this IS very different. Completely different story really. I like the story of the book better, but I did enjoy this film.

Polly *taught, not "teached." They made *clothes for dolls, not "cloth."
This is a wonderful movie!
Enjoyed the movie. Love finding these gems 💗🎬 hope I can find the book 📖
Well having read the comments first, which I never do, I'm going to have to watch this now if only to see your lovely mother, Dennis Ford!
Very good. Loved a lot.
THANK YOU THANK YOU:):) Very sweet and lovely little movie..different from the book of course, but really appreciate your posting it:)
What a darling movie!!!
What a beautiful movie!
Maude is Elinor Donahue, she is best remembered as Ellie from The Andy Griffith Show or Betty from Father Knows Best.
Maud Shaw is Elinor Donahue.
In this film, at age 12 Elinor Donohue gets to play the kittenish younger sister.
Elsinore Donahue is absolutely darling as Maude. I really enjoyed watching her.
I wish movie on the novel "Daughter of the land" could also be made. That is wonderful story by gene- Stratton porter.
Also Laddie, Keeper of the Bees, etc... I have most of her books too, & love all of them!
One of my fav books turned into a movie
The Golden era is just precious and such simpler times. Even the movies. Movies now pale in comparison.
What a good movie. Thank u
Maude has the best lines :). This doesn't do justice to the book but Maude steals the show in this movie.
Very lovely movie....thank you! Just my taste.
Absolutely beautiful 🤩!
at 5:30, there's Irene Ryan, Granny Clampett!!! I've never seen her in anything other than Beverly Hillbillies
She doesn't show up till 7:30. The actress at 5:30 is Claire Whitney.
DAISY MOSES WAS GRANNYS GIVEN NAME,SHEWAS JEDS MOTHER IN LAW...FOR FANS ITS A REAL THING LOL
I couldn’t come up with a name for either of them. Thanks both of you.
Irene Ryan, Granny from the Beverly Hill Billies and Eleanor Donahue, Betty from Father Knows Best are both in this movie
Which one is Irene Ryan?
I read the book when I was a teenager.
Wonderful movie ❤️
Enjoyed this
Love this such a delight
I dare somebody todays to go to a party, hold a handkerchief and start singing a solioquy of"beautiful dreamers": a psyche ward will be waiting for em.

Why is the finale of the Mendelssohn violin concerto so cut up?
Saundra Berkova was the violinist
She was fantastic! I love that they captured her impressive finger work; I could have listened to 5 more songs.

+Rinske V is she playing the mother??
Rinske V Yes Iren Ryan
Betty's sister is going to marry a doctor so she can be sick for nothing..but if Polly marries a minister she can be Good for nothing!
That line is just too funny!!!
They skipped over the entire first half of the book!! :(
Lovely

good one....

The movie was good ,but some parts of the film were to dark to watch.
Who plays the violin? Also, what is the song at 1:01:30? I’ve heard it in other films and it sounds familiar but I don’t know what it is.
Her first Student is a little Girl whose Mother just snobbishly approved of her first song to learn that ends with the words "Magic Spell!" That's weird!
Louisa May Alcott story with lesser known cast
Talent is important! not others
Did it not start at the beginning?
Which is the title of the opening credits?
Loved this....interesting it is a 1949 novel (set in the 1870s though). It would be nice to read the novel this movie was based on.
Ummm, no. LMAlcott died in 1888. The movie was made in 49’ however.
The book is always better!
" well... I guess I could say that I'm...Fine!"
